Good morning and welcome to our children’s story! Today we are

celebrating Pentecost. Does anyone know what “pente” means? (Allow

children to answer.) It means five. Pentecost is celebrated fifty days

after Easter to commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirt to the

disciples of Jesus.

Before Jesus made his ascension, he told his disciples to stay in

Jerusalem until the Father provides them with “power from on high.”

Jesus had said, “For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be

baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

The disciples did not understand all that Jesus had told them, but

they were obedient and stayed there and waited.

Let’s hear now the story of Pentecost and the coming of the Holy

Spirit.

The Story of Pentecost

Our story begins in the same room where the Last Supper with

Jesus had taken place. The room looks like a small, simple dining hall

with tables in the upper floor of a house. The disciples of Jesus and their

friends are in the room and they are enjoying each other's company.

They are discussing what Jesus had taught them. And most importantly,

they were praying together.

You can feel the excitement because the disciples are all talking

about Jesus - about what Jesus had taught before he was lifted into the

air, making his ascension.

“Did you really see Jesus go up into the sky?” one of the people

asked.

“Yes,” we did a disciple answered.

“What did he say to you?” asked another.

“Jesus told us to wait in Jerusalem until we should receive “powers

from on high”. He also said to us, ‘Ye shall receive power, after that the

Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in

Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part

of the earth.’”

Of course, none of the disciples understood how they could do

this as they did not know any other language other than their own.

“How will we speak in another language?” one of them asked.

“We do not know,” answered a disciple. “We will have to wait and

see.” They had faith that God would show them as Jesus had told them so.

There was also another reason to pray. The disciples knew that

when Jesus sent them power from heaven, they must ready themselves

to receive it.

The disciples thanked God for sending Jesus to live among them

and teach them. They prayed to God for courage and strength to witness

for Jesus. They wanted to be brave and good and faithful. They asked for

forgiveness for any actions or words not of God that they may have

committed.

Jerusalem was crowded with devoted Jews who had arrived from

various towns to celebrate Pentecost which was a harvest festival for the

Jews. Then something very wonderful happened. Suddenly, without any

sign of a storm, “there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing, mighty

wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.”   It rattled the

windows and clanged the door.

“And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to do so. “

Cloven means split in two. Here is a picture of the cloven

tongues appearing over the disciples’ heads. (Show picture.)

What caused the wind and the flames of fire above their heads? (Pause

for a moment) the Holy Spirit.

All the disciples began speaking at the same time and

became so loud and joyous that people outside on the street down

below were beginning to wonder what in the world was happening up

there in that room! People gathered below the window to find out.

They were amazed because every man heard the disciples speak in his

own language.

“How is it that we can hear and understand what they are saying as

they are speaking in many languages?”

The apostle, Peter stood up and hurried outside on the balcony

and started to preach to all the people below through the gift of the Holy

Spirit. He said,

“Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem what you see and hear was

prophesied …: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out

my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall

prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see

visions.”

Peter continued preaching to them about some of the prophecies

in the Old Testament, about the teachings of Jesus and about Jesus truly

being the Son of God. He told them that if they accepted Jesus Christ,

they too could receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

“Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of old.”

Even the disciples were amazed at Peter’s speech. They understood

he spoke with the power and comfort of Holy Spirit.

Then voices were heard in the crowd.

“Brethren, what shall we do?” they cried.

“Repent and ask for forgiveness,” answered Peter. “Be baptized

every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness, and

you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

In other words, Peter was preaching to the people to stop doing

those things you know are not right and do those things that are good

and that will make God happy. And you too will have the Holy Spirit as

your helper.

From that day onward, many people accepted Jesus and were

baptized. The word of Jesus began to spread throughout the land.

CONCLUSION with Key Points:

Do you know that Jesus promised that we also can receive the

gifts of the Holy Spirit? (Pause and allow children to answer.) Jesus

taught this because he loves us very much and wants to provide a

comforter for us.

The Holy Spirit is our helper also. When we pray to the Holy

Spirit, he strengthens us and lives within our hearts, helping us to say

kind words, do good, and make the right choices in our life. Do you

know that the Holy Spirit helps us become the Christ as Jesus did?

We probably won’t hear a wind blowing or see dancing flames,

so how do we know that the Holy Spirit is with us? (Allow children to

answer.) We know when we feel God speaking in our hearts. This may

happen when we share our love, say kind words, comfort and help

others. Try to make God happy, just like in the story when Peter told

the people to do those things that would make God happy.

The Holy Spirit is the third aspect of the Trinity, the Father, the

Son and the Holy Spirit. It is often depicted as a dove descending

through the air. We are filled with love and charity. (Show picture.)

As we become more loving, show more kindness and help

others, we are filled with the Holy Spirit.

The dove is shown here in the Chart of Your Divine Self. (Point to

chart as you explain the following.) You can see that the dove of the

Holy Spirit is coming down through the Holy Christ Self. The Holy

Spirit’s love passes through the crystal cord to radiate to the lower

figure that represents us on earth, right into our hearts. When that

happens, you truly become the temple of the Holy Spirit and are filled

with the love of God.

Do you want the Holy Spirit is be within you? (PAUSE.)

The ascended masters have told us that at the moment we were

born, the Holy Spirit breathed the breath of life into us and ignited

our threefold flame. The Maha Chohan is the representative of the

Holy Spirit who ministers to us at birth and whenever we call to him.

(hold up focus of the Maha Chohan)

If we ask the Maha Chohan to come and help us, we will see

amazing things begin to happen in our lives.

Let’s try to feel the Holy Spirit come upon us as and we meditate

and say the mantra, “Come Holy Spirit, enlighten me.” Will you please

close your eyes? (Read slowly and devoutly) Slowly take a deep

breath as we fill ourselves with prana or oxygen, the element that

corresponds with the light of the Holy Spirit that purifies us. Let us go

deep within. Picture yourself entering the secret chamber of your

heart, feel the love and warmth of Jesus and the Holy Christ Self. See

the pure white dove of the Holy Spirit coming into the threefold flame

in your heart filling you and every cell and atom with the pink light of

divine love. Feel the comfort and love of the Maha Chohan. (Pause for a

few seconds)

Let us say together: “Come Holy Spirit, enlighten me.” (Recite

devotionally 3x.) Now will you please open your eyes.

Optional: Would you like a focus of the Maha Chohan to take

home with you? (Hand out wallet card)

Thank you for sharing in our story. Have a wonderful day!
