LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners,
We all like spectacular fireworks. They are exciting and
exhilarating. The Church's first Pentecost had some
spectacular fireworks. The Apostles and other Christians were
gathered "in one place together".
We don't know exactly where. Maybe it was somewhere inside
or near the Temple in Jerusalem, since right after, crowds
started to gather. It may have been the upper room where
Jesus and the Apostles had eaten the Last Supper. We are not
certain. So, they were all in one place, and then a thunderous
noise like a strong wind, like a tornado, came from the sky.
And then flames appeared. Flames of fire just appeared out of
nowhere, spontaneously, hovering in the air. And these flames
divided up and started floating through the air until they came
to rest on each of the people gathered. But the fireworks
didn't stop there. All of a sudden, the Christians started
speaking in languages that they didn't know. A crowd had
gathered by now, with visitors from all over the world who
were in Jerusalem for the festival. Each one heard the
Christians explaining the gospel in their own language. It was a
dramatic, spectacular display. But we would be wrong to
conclude from this that the Holy Spirit's normal way of acting
in our life is through dramatic fireworks. In fact, it's just the
opposite. God's action in our life is most often gentle and
hardly perceptible at first.
How does Jesus send the Spirit to his Apostles after his
resurrection? He breathes on them - quietly and subtly. How
does St Paul describe the action of the Holy Spirit in the
Church? Like the soul of a body - powerful, essential, but
invisible and subtle. The Holy Spirit works quietly. Consider the
example of Mary.
The Bible tells us that Mary was there in the Upper Room,
waiting with the Apostles for the coming of the Holy Spirit. She
was the mother who had given birth to the head of the Church,
Jesus, in Bethlehem. And now she is the mother who is helping
to give birth to the rest of the body of the Church at Pentecost.
What was she doing? Praying with them, certainly. But she was
probably also serving them, being a mother to them in the
midst of their confusion and nervousness. They probably were
asking her about Jesus and listening - maybe for the first time -
to the story of his birth and childhood. Maybe this is when
they first heard about the Annunciation. That was the day the
archangel Gabriel came to her and explained that "The Holy
Spirit will overshadow you and you will conceive." She
probably told them about the many conversations she had in
her heart with the Holy Spirit after that day, the ones St Luke
referred to in his Gospel when he wrote (more than once):
"And Mary kept all these things, contemplating them in her
heart." This is the key. To contemplate is to go over an idea in
the silence of your mind in converse about it with God. And
that's what Mary was always doing. Becoming the spouse of
the Holy Spirit didn't bring fireworks and fancy balls into her
life, it brought meaning, mission, wisdom, courage - virtues
that take root and grow in the quiet center of the soul, just as
seeds take root and grow in the unseen darkness of the soil.
Quiet, gentle, unseen, yet powerful, transforming, and
everlasting - that's the work of the Holy Spirit.
Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta put it beautifully when she
said: "God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees,
flowers, grass - grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and
the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able
to touch souls."

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO Queridos Feligreses, A todos nos gustan los fuegos artificiales. Son emocionantes y estimulantes. El primer Pentecostés de la iglesia tenía unos espectaculares fuegos artificiales. Los apóstoles y otros cristianos estaban reunidos "juntos en un solo lugar". No sabemos exactamente dónde. Tal vez fue en algún lugar dentro o cerca del templo en Jerusalén, donde justo después, la multitud se comenzó a reunir. Puede haber sido el Cenáculo donde Jesús y los apóstoles habían comido la última cena. No estamos seguros. Así que estaban todos en un solo lugar, y luego un ruido atronador, como un viento fuerte, como un tornado, vino desde el cielo. Y entonces aparecieron las llamas. Llamas de fuego acaban de aparecer de la nada, espontáneamente, flotando en el aire. Estas llamas se dividieron y comenzaron a flotar por el aire hasta que llegaron a aposarse en cada una de las personas congregadas. Pero los fuegos artificiales no terminaron allí. De repente los cristianos comenzaron a hablar en idiomas que no conocían. Una multitud se había reunido ahora, con visitantes de todo mundo que se encontraban en Jerusalén para la fiesta. Cada uno oye a los cristianos explicar el evangelio en su propio idioma. Fue una exhibición espectacular. Pero sería un error concluir de esta manera y decir que es normal del Espíritu Santo y que actúa en nuestra vida a través de espectaculares fuegos artificiales. De hecho, es justo lo contrario. La acción de Dios en nuestra vida suele ser más suave y apenas perceptible al principio. ¿Jesús envía el espíritu a sus apóstoles después de su resurrección? Sopla en ellos - tranquila y sutilmente. ¿Cómo describe la acción del Espíritu Santo en la iglesia de San Pablo? Como el alma de un cuerpo - de gran alcance, esencial, pero invisible y sutil. El Espíritu Santo trabaja silenciosamente. Considere el ejemplo de María. La Biblia nos dice que María estaba allí en el Cenáculo, esperando con los apóstoles la venida del Espíritu Santo. Ella era la madre que había dado a luz a la cabeza de la iglesia, a Jesús, en Belén. Y ahora ella es la madre que está ayudando a dar a luz al resto del cuerpo de la iglesia en Pentecostés. ¿Qué estaba haciendo? Orando con ellos, sin duda. Pero ella probablemente también les servía, como madre para ellos en medio de su confusión y nerviosismo. Ellos probablemente fueron a preguntarle acerca de Jesús y escuchar - quizás por primera vez - la historia de su nacimiento y niñez. Tal vez esto es cuando escucharon por primera vez sobre la Anunciación. Ese fue el día que el Arcángel Gabriel vino a ella y le explicó que "el Espíritu Santo la cubriría he iba a concebir". Probablemente les dijo acerca de las muchas conversaciones que había en su corazón con el Espíritu Santo después de ese día, St. Lucas a eso se refiere en su evangelio cuando escribió (más de una vez): "Y María guardaba todas estas cosas, contemplándolos en su corazón". Esta es la clave. Contemplar una idea en el silencio de tu mente y conversar sobre ella con Dios. Y eso es lo que María estaba haciendo siempre. Convertirse en la esposa del Espíritu Santo no trayendo los fuegos artificiales sino el significado.
Misión, sabiduría, coraje - virtudes que echan raíces y crecen en el centro silencioso del alma, así como semillas que echan raíces y crecen en la oscuridad invisible de la tierra. Tranquila, suave, invisible, aún poderosa, transformadora y eterna - es la obra del Espíritu Santo. La santa madre Teresa de Calcuta lo puso muy bien cuando dijo: "Dios es amigo del silencio. Vea cómo la naturaleza, - árboles, flores, hierbas crece en silencio; vea las estrellas, la luna y el sol, cómo se mueven en silencio... Necesitamos silencio para poder tocar las almas."

Domingo de Pentecostés Por todos aquellos que generosamente comparten sus dones especiales, para que como comunidad parroquial podamos continuar el trabajo de Jesucristo. "Hay diferentes tipos de dones espirituales pero el mismo Espíritu; hay
diferentes formas de servicio pero el mismo Señor; hay diferentes
trabajos, pero el mismo Dios que los produce a todos en todos ". - 1
Corintios 12:4-6 Todos nosotros somos bendecidos, independientemente de nuestras circunstancias individuales; Dios nos ha dado a cada uno de nosotros muchos regalos. Cómo usamos esos regalos es el regalo que hacemos a Dios. Para que el plan de Dios funcione, cada uno debe hacer lo que estamos llamados a hacer, y adivinar que: ¡no todos estamos llamados a hacer lo mismo!
DOMINGO DE PENTECOSTÉS - En la segunda lectura de hoy,
San Pablo les recuerda a los Corintios: “Hay diferentes dones, pero el mismo Espíritu; hay diferentes ministerios pero un mismo Señor.” ¿Cómo estoy utilizando yo mis dones para el bien común? Los Católicos conmemoramos el descendimiento del Espíritu Santo sobre los Apóstoles, a
los cincuenta días después de la Resurrección de Cristo. Se trata de una festividad Cristiana que data del siglo primero, aunque no hay evidencia de que haya sido observada tan antiguamente como la Pascua, el pasaje en Corintios I:16 probablemente se refiere a una festividad judía. Esto no es sorprendente ya que el festejo originalmente duraba un sólo día y se realizaba en domingo. Además estaba muy estrechamente relacionada con la Pascua de manera que se podría tratar de una actividad en la terminación pascual. El hecho de que Pentecostés era una festividad que ya pertenecía a los tiempos apostólicos lo constata el séptimo de los fragmentos cuya autoría es atribuida a San Irineo. En la actualidad la fiesta tiene un rango igual al Domingo de Resurrección o Pascua. Durante la vigilia, los catecúmenos eran bautizados, consecuentemente, las ceremonias del sábado eran similares a las observadas en Sábado Santo. El color del ropaje sacerdotal es rojo, como un símbolo de las lenguas de fuego que descendieron. En Italia fue costumbre que se lanzaran pétalos de rosas desde el cielo de las iglesias, simbolizando así el milagro de las lenguas de fuego, con base en ello, el domingo de Pentecostés es llamado en Sicilia y en otras regiones italianas, como Pascua Roja, nombre que proviene del uso de los ropajes rojos de la ocasión. En Francia la costumbre incluyó el toque de trompetas durante los servicios, con el objeto de recordar el sonido y estruendo que debió acompañar
el descenso del Espíritu Santo. En las vísperas de Pentecostés, en las iglesias orientales, servicios extraordinarios con genuflexión o arrodillamientos, fueron acompañados por largas lecturas y recitaciones poéticas y de los salmos. Para los festejos de Pentecostés, los rusos llevan flores y ramas verdes en sus manos. “Cuando venga el Protector que les enviaré desde el Padre, por ser El el Espíritu de verdad que procede del Padre, dará testimonio de mi. Y ustedes también darán
testimonio de mi, pues han estado conmigo desde el principio. (Juan 15:26) DIOS NOS DÁ SIEMPRE OTRA OPORTUNIDAD En algún momento de nuestras vidas, elegiremos algo que deteriore nuestra relación con Dios. Lo bueno es que nuestro Dios es un Dios de perdón y de segundas oportunidades. La cercanía a dios se produce por medio de la oración, el estudio de las Escrituras, la participación frecuente en la Misa y una vida centrada en el Evangelio. Participa en los estudios y reuniones de las diferentes organizaciones religiosas que ofrece San Jerónimo. ¡infórmate, te esperamos!

Pentecost Sunday For all those who generously share their unique
gifts so that as a parish community we carry on
the work of Jesus Christ.
All of us are blessed, regardless of our own
individual circumstances; God has given each of us
many gifts. How we use those gifts is our gift back
to God. For God’s plan to work, each must do what
we are called to do and guess what – we are not all
called to do the same thing!

ESTARAN FUERA POR 5 DIAS - Los sacerdotes de
nuestra Arquidiócesis se reunirán para su Convocatoria Anual el 21,22,23,24 y 25 de mayo. Durante estos cinco días, los sacerdotes tendrán la oportunidad de discutir preocupaciones pastorales mutuas, participar en presentaciones especiales sobre aspectos de su ministerio, de recibir una actualización acerca de los asuntos de la Arquidiócesis y de participar en liturgias, comidas y compañerismo con sus cófrades. En lugar de las Misas diarias, el Diácono Pedro, Diácono Louis, Diácono Gil y el Diácono Dan ofrecerán los servicios religiosos. Por favor oren por nuestros sacerdotes durante este tiempo tan importante en su vida ministerial. No hay confesiones el miércoles de mayo de 23rd.

NEXT MONTH, FR. DAN, FR. MIKE & FR. DAVID will be in the Annual Archdiocesan Convocation. They will be out Monday, May 21st through Friday, May 25th. In the place of weekday Masses, Communion Services will be celebrated by Deacon Dan, Deacon Horr, Deacon Vela and Deacon Pedro. During these days, our priests will have the opportunity to discuss mutual pastoral concerns, participate in special presentations on aspects of their ministry, be given an update on the affairs of the diocese and share in liturgies, meals and fellowship with their confreres. The convocation provides all the priests time to get away from their parish ministries and administration and build priestly fraternity by praying together, celebrating Mass together, and socializing. This is also the time for learning with one another through discussions and
listening to various presentations from invited speakers. There will be NO Confessions on Wednesday, May 23rd.
