Under committee reports, Christy stated that the circles had sponsored a School Supply Donation Drive. The supplies collected were taken to the Elementary campus. Council would like to thank Circle Members and the Congregation for their donations. Under old business, Gary will check on bids to take down the cross outside the church. Sunday School Rally Day is set for September 13th and Sunday school begins on September 27th. Council discussed safety procedures for these two events. Mary Lea will go over our suggestions for Rally Day with Sunday school teachers. Christy will check on safety procedures used for Elementary students and convey that to Sunday school personnel. Council wants to be sure that we have the student’s safety in mind and follow rules that they are using in school. Randy moved and Keith seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer. Respectfully Submitted, Christy Paulsgrove, Council Secretary

Gary moved and Keith seconded that we accept the bid from Triple D Security and to include an extra monitor. Motion carried. The previous month’s minutes were reviewed and amended. From Pastor Randy…
14 Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit." (Matt. 15:14 ESV)
Recently Ginia and I had our number one grandson visit for a few days. (We also have number two and number three grandsons but they didn’t visit.) When it was time for him to go home, we had to drive up just north of Temple to meet with his mom. Then we turned around and drove back. The drive up was fun. The drive back was a little grueling. It went well all the way until we were south of Gonzales. It was there that I got stuck behind a very slow moving 18 wheeler. We came to a spot that I could pass and there was plenty of room even though in the distance a car was coming the other way. I turned on my turn indicator, passed the 18 wheeler, turned on my turn indicator again and came back into my lane. As far as I could tell all was fine, that is until I passed the car going the other way. This driver was upset. I could not see his face but I could definitely see his hands as he was using them both to make rude hand gestures at me. And I have to admit I was surprised and shocked as I could not understand what I had done wrong in his opinion. Very shortly after seeing this irate driver I looked in my rear view mirror and found that the pickup that had been on my tail behind the 18 wheeler was now right back on my tail in front of the 18 wheeler. And then I understood the anger of that driver. There was plenty of room for me to pass, but there was not enough room for the truck behind me to pass too. And he had passed at the same time I did. He had followed my lead even though it was the wrong decision for him to make. And oddly enough, that same pickup stayed right on my tail all the way to Cuero.

Well that incident got me to thinking. I wondered if the truck behind me was being a bad follower. Or was I simply being a bad leader even though I didn’t even know I was leading. Either way it did make me consider that we as disciples are always leading. What we do, what we say, how we handle ourselves, and how we treat others make a difference. We are commissioned with leading others to Christ, yet we can easily lead others astray. It takes forethought and perseverance to act as the disciple you are. We have to put the will of God before our own, which is not always easy to do. We are not a Lone Ranger Christian living life as we see fit. The reason is that others see us too. We are part of the body of Christ and as such take part in presenting Christ to the world. It is not a task we should consider lightly. I want to be clear though that we cannot make decisions for others. In other words not all will choose the right path even if we lead; some will, some won’t. As sad as it is, many will be responsible for their own fate in making bad choices. We just have to continue to lead the right way. And let the ones who want to pass an 18 wheeler in the wrong place live with their own decisions. God’s Peace, Pastor Randy

Dear St. John’s Lutheran Church- Thank you for the generous donation made to support
our work. Every day we have people calling and coming in who need help to stay in their homes. For many of them, it’s a new and very scary experience. We are thankful to be able to help because of the generosity of people like
you. Please accept my sincere thanks. -Ginny Stafford, Mid-Coast Family Services
