On November 5th, 2012 the staff of Communities in Schools of Wilmington at
William Penn High School in conjunction with Jobs for Delaware Grads (JDG),
officially launched the A.C.H.I.E.V.E.Academy at the Wallace Wallin building
located directly next to William Penn High School. The A.C.H.I.E.V.E.

excel academically, while developing professional and social skills that willbenefit them pre- and post-graduation. There are currently 20 students enrolled
in the program as this will be the pilot class for the A.C.H.I.E.V.EAcademy.
The mission of theA.C.H.I.E.V.E. Academyis to provide another option for a

HEALTHY START, HEALTHY
FUTURE WEEK, OCT. 15TH19TH
The Healthy Start, Healthy Future initiative focused on several different areas
including nutrition, health promotion, and physical fitness! This is the 2nd year
that the CIS staff hosted an all-out Zumbathon to end the week off with a
BANG! Throughout the week, CIS students and the Jefferson Awards Studen
in Action committee raised more than $200.00 in funds for the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation by selling paper sneakers and posting them throughout the
school! A students right to a healthy start and a healthy future is one of the five
basics that Communities in Schools believes in for all students. The CIS staff
would like to thank all the volunteers,
teachers, students and administrators
that helped to make the week a
success!

you? Lunch A 11:00-11:30 Lunch B 11:30-12:00 Lunch C 12:00-12:30
After-school Tutoring- Many students just need that one-on-one attentiofor their ah-ha moment. Students could benefit from your help with
completing homework and/or class assignments, gaining confidence in
reading or math, and basic tutoring. Students can work with you one-on-
one or in small groups.
Career Speakers- Come tell us your professional and personal journey. Many times success seems like a distant dream instead of an attainable
reality. Sharing your journey helps put things into perspective for ourstudents.
Attention ParentsStudents will not be allowed to
participate in CIS programs and events without proper
