654 club right down the block." They said, "Sam you are a heck of a guy, here is a 2 dollar tip for you - a 2dollar tip." So now they are sitting there with the girls, if you know what i mean, and ithink you do, sir. All of a sudden they get kinda bored and they feel likehaving a game of cards. They only trouble is they dont have enough cardplayers. They said Sam would you do us a favour... would you find us somecard players? Sam looked at his watch and said "Well its still kinda early but Ill see what i can do" So the cards were cutonce more...Sam took another walk 1 2..He even took a left down princestreet, and said the best we could do is 4 guys but they are all named jack. They said, "Oh my God, Sam they are beautiful... where did you get them?"He said, "O the 654 club right down the block." They said, "Sam you really are a heck of a guy, here is another 2 dollar tipfor you." So now they are in this big poker game. All of a sudden the kings ran intosome bad luck, and they owe the girls some money. The only trouble is allthey have is a 40 dollar check. They said Sam would you do us a favour...would you cash the cheque... get us a couple of 20s" Sam looked at his watch and said, "Well it's still kinda early but Ill see whatI can do", so the cards were cut. Sam took a little walk, he walked downone, two, three blocks, and said we are all out of 20s; we had to give you 410s They said, "Sam thats great, here is another 2 dollar tip for you." So now they are really starting to like this guy Sam... They said, "You knowwhat Sam, This is our first time here, but we are coming here again. You really are anice guy... you remind us of that magician Bill Malone. He says, "Thank you!Nobody is that nice for crying out loud" They said Sam you are kind of a young guy... he said kind of... They said"we guess your age to be about 38" He said, "You're close, Im 39" They said, "Do you live here at the club?" Hesaid, "Oh no, I live in a classy part of town, I live in Lake Tahoe" They said, "Sam what's your address?" He said, "I live at 13, 29 west8 street"They said, "Do you gamble?" He said, "Everyday at the 654 club right downthe block" They said, "Do you ever see any good poker hands?" He said you wouldn'tbelieve it. The other day this guy Louis _____ came by... he had three 7s anda pair of 8s" They said, "Wow thats a full house... did he win?" He said, "No, this otherguy David was there, he had 3 aces and a pair of 9s" They said, "Did hewin?" He said, "No, Bill Malone the magician - he had a straight flush" And thats the story of Sam the Bellhop.

Wow, thank you for this. You helped me out, but not in the way you think.

Years ago, I went to Vegas and saw a stage show by a magician named SteveWyrick. He performed this one particular card trick, in which he told a story. No matter how many times he cut or shuffled the cards, he kept flipping overcards that played right into his story.

By the end of the trick, he used every single card in the deck.

After reading the patter for Sam the Bellhop, that sounds exactly like thetrick I have been trying to hunt down!

There's another story trick in Simon Lovell's book Simon Says called LillyLong Legs, which uses all 52.

There are many such tricks, but Sam is one of the best. It's Bill Malone'ssignature trick. The three times in the story when he says, "the cards werecut", he has a different spectator cut the cards. In between those, he does awhole running series of cuts and shuffles himself. The spectators are moreand more amused and astonished that no matter how much the cards keepgetting mixed, the right ones keep turning up on top of the deck. It's a thingof beauty in the right hands, but it does take a while to perform. (And awhole lot longer to learn!)

Originally, it was just the story and flipping over the top cards at theappropriate moment. Malone added the constant shuffling and cutting tomake it a lot more interesting, and to practice his card moves. The rest ishistory.

I havent learned the effect from The Loose series; there is another DVD byBill Malone that teaches only Sam The Bellhop and an ace trick.

I wish you posted thir earlier though as I watched the video 5 times to learnthe patter! I aprecciate it though.

I actually love this effect. It is something amusing and fun, a clssic effect inmy routine. Everyone should learn this.

Sam the Bellhop has become so loved that a surprisingly large number ofpeople have actually seen it already. I do my best to avoid performing whateveryone else seems to.

The Sam the Bellhop video is terrific though and goes into great detail whenexplaining the Zarrow Shuffle along with numerous false cuts not shown inhis On the Loose videos.

However, the On the Loose series is great in itself and seems to have thepraise of most people on these boards.

Yep, that's actually the one I was referring to. It goes into far greater detailon the Zarrow Shuffle and false cuts than the On the Loose series.

I believe Ammar has a version on his ETMCM Vol. 1 titled

A NIGHT AT THE IMPROV (Eric Mead)

To anyone who is familiar with it, is it the same concept as Sam?

Same concept, but I don't think it uses all 52 cards...

A Night at the Improv, as featured on ETMCM vol. 1, is indeed a differenttrick. The only thing it has in common with Sam the Bellhop is that it is a story-telling trick, where you go through the entire deck, turning cards face up one at the time, and telling a story while doing it. The premise of A Night at the Improv is that you go through the deck andyou make up a story while turning cards over. It looks like you make the story up on thespot, pretending to find a matching story to go with the order of the cards. There are no cuts or shuffles during performance, although you couldinclude them if you want.

I don't like A Night at the Improv, because it's even more fun when reallydone on the spot. Sam the Bellhop however, is a piece of beauty. Magical and entertaining.
