• History dates back to the 10th century

• May have descended from Vallhunds (Swedish dogs brought to Pembrokeshire by the Vikings)

• May have come from the ancestors of the

Schipperkes and Pomeranians brought to Wales

• 1920 - recognized as a pure breed in the UK

• 1934 - recognized as a separate breed from their cousins, the Cardigans
