Bones is a TV show that my mom and I enjoy watching together. It is created and based on the life of Forensic Anthropologist Kathy Reichs and her novels. Her character is played by Emily Deschanel (Temperance Brennan). There is lots of science, humor, and romance in this show. Bones is really important to me, mainly because it inspired me to want to become a Forensic Anthropologist.

Reading is a really big part of my life. There are so many good books out there, I can’t focus on one at a a time. When I read, I feel as if I’m traveling to a new world, to the world of the book. I read whenever I get the chance, if I have a really good book. Some of my favorites are Splendors and Glooms and the Kingdom Keepers series.

When my mom was about 5 or 6, she wanted a pet. Her brothers had had pets before, but she never got to have one. So, on Easter morning, in her Easter dress and curls, she ran down to the lake and caught a wild duck. Then, the mama duck chased her, because she wanted her baby back. So, my mom started to run home, and in all the excitement, the baby duck decided to do its business on her dress. When mom finally got home, her parents were very upset, because she ruined her Easter dress and her curls came out (which took her mom forever to do). But guess what she got for Easter that year? She got a bunny which she named Petunia. And he was a nice bunny.

Phineas is an energetic ball of fluff whose purr sounds like a mouse’s squeak. He loves to talk with his humans and thinks he’s a dog. He plays fetch and sits like a person and a Buddha. Also, his tail is tall and fluffy, and we call it his ‘Magnificent Plumage’. If you try to play with it, he turns around and faces you so you can’t reach it.

Chloe is a 14 year old diva with a sore back and a loud, demanding meow. She gets what she wants when and how she wants it. She is persnickety, and only lets you pet her if she wants you to.

Sasha is a fairly quiet cat. When she does meow, is sounds like a mouse’s squeak. She carries her stuffed toys around the house and squeaks. She loves affection and attention, and knows exactly when her feeding time is.

Stripy, also called Nintendo, is a gray striped gentle giant. His purr sounds like a lawnmower and he seems, at times, the size and weight of a hippo. He often meows and purrs at the same time, making a really weird noise. He loves to play and cuddle up with his humans. He will also eat practically anything.

When my Aunt Tamara and Uncle Paul cam up to visit from Florida, we went to Ken’s Korny Corn Maze. On the way there, we saw a sign for Jones Sausage Road. We (my aunt and I) thought it was a really funny name. We stroked out invisible beards and goatees and said in funny accents “One Jones Sausage… Mwhahahahahahahahahaha!” Now, it’s a common joke between us.

When I was five, we flew down to Key West, Florida. We went to my Aunt Tamara and Uncle Paul’s wedding, and then went all around the city. We rode Tandem bikes; went to the Hemmingway House, the Lighthouse, the Aquarium, Mild Marker Zero, the Turtle Rescue, and the Conch Train Tour; and almost got kicked out of a Butterfly Sanctuary for touching the butterflies (Aunt Tamara did that). We had a great time. That was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had with them.

Nintendo, aka Stripy, is my sweet boy. I got him in second grade, after a soccer game. We had gone to Safe Haven so I could get my own pet. He was different than all the rest, and I could tell. I told my mom: “He touched my heart.” He is the best thing that ever happened to me. He went from being a tiny kitten to being a huge purring monster. He is a 14.5 pound love bug who can’t go 3 hours without a belly rub. I wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world.

Outstanding ‘Just Because’ Parties

My mom and I really like to throw cool parties for no reason. We'll do anything, any time, any day of the year. We call them ‘Just Because’ parties. These can have any theme, and range anywhere from a potluck game day to a giant sleepover with cookie cake and nuggets. They are all very unique, and very special to mom and I.

When I went over to my grandparents’ house, my grandma and I would always play Pokémon Sorry. I would almost always pick the blue Pokémon, and I’d win almost every time. It was one of the things I’d looked forward to when I went over there. It has become a tradition, and I’d like to keep it going as long as possible.

Quick and Easy Craft: Duck Tape Flower

1. Wrap a bendable straw in green tape.

2. Cut a piece of a different color tape, about 2 inches, and fold two corners in so it looks like a pentagon.

3. Wrap this around the tip of the straw.

4. Repeatedly do these two steps until your flower is the desired size.

When I was about three, my family lived in Suffolk, Virginia. Our house was right across the street from my best friend, Heather Eichman (look to H). When we lived there, our families would get together once in a while, and go to Red Robin for lunch or dinner. We always had to go on Thursday, when the Red Robin was there. We’d get chocolate milk, chicken strips, burgers, steak fries, and honey mustard. A few years later, my family moved to Raleigh because my dad retired from the military. We were both really sad, and we disconnected for a year or two. Then, we got back in touch, and our moms scheduled visits every three to four months. When we get together, we still go to Red Robin for lunch or dinner. It has been a long-lasting tradition that I hope to preserve until we grow apart.

This is the two of us at the Chesapeake mall, with the Red Robin.

Unique and Amazing Aunt Tamara

Out of all the people I know, I admire my aunt Tamara. She and my uncle Paul (with Milo and Matilda, the puggles, and Stuart, Thelma, Betty Davis, Louise, and Penelope, the cats) live in Palm City, Florida, so I don’t see them very often. But, whenever I do see my aunt and uncle, we have a blast. We play on the beach or play games (or watch movies and laugh for a while). I admire her because she is one-of-a-kind. She is beautiful, kind, funny, and trustworthy (99% of the time). She stands up for what she believes in. She also has a great personality (and a great imagination). I would never change any part of her.

Despicable Me is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s about an evil villain, Gru, and the trouble he goes to to defeat his nemesis, Vector. He has these little helpers, called minions, which are my favorites. They are yellow, with one or two eyes, hairs on the tops of their heads blue overalls, and their own language (mostly including Puh-Poy, Bapples, and Ba-na-nas). They are really funny to watch, and even funnier to listen to.

ZazzlesIn season 4 episode 3 of the Big Bang Theory, the Zazzy Substitution, Sheldon and his ‘girlfriend’ Amy break up. Sheldon has problems dealing with his emotions (which he does not think he has) and adopts 25 cats. He names all of them after scientists except one, who he names ‘Zazzles’. He says that Zazzles is very Zazzy. He also says that the cats he has don’t argue or question his intellectual authority. I love the name Zazzles, and find it funny coming out of Sheldon's mouth.
