Why is a tomato round and red? Because if it was long and yellow it would be a banana!!

This weeks joke is from Hunter Wardle Rm 5
Greetings I am really enjoying getting to know our new five year olds. I have spent some time in room ten
getting to know children and their names. I apologise to the parents if I forget your name. With
over 250 children at school at the moment it becomes challenging. One of the areas we are
looking at for our junior children is handwriting. Handwriting is still an important skill to learn.
It supports the development of fine motor skills as well as supports the learning of the alphabet names and
sounds. If your child enjoys writing at home please encourage this. If they need help with letter formation etc.
please talk with the teacher to check how we are teaching them so we are all on the same page and don’t
confuse the children.
PB4L Positive Behaviour for Learning At the moment we are reviewing our rewards and consequences systems. Our consequence system is called
POP and will continue to be called this because it is well engrained in the school and the children know what it
is all about. Already we are seeing positive outcomes from our REAL cards. The students are part of this
process. Children are going up to teachers to show off their reward cards. This has shifted them from telling on
other kids to identifying positive behaviour in themselves and being proud of it. We will be having the POP
treat before the end of the term as we have a special visitor coming to school. Remember to remind your
children that three times in classroom POP in the last five weeks (The RED cards) means they will miss the
treat. This is not designed as an extra punishment for these children but as a reward for all the children that
make the right choices.
Once we have the new guidelines worked out we will give them out to you as information and to ensure we all
have the same information.
Sports The cricket has finished. My thanks to the parents who supported these teams. My thanks to the children for
giving it a go. It is always good to try new things. Touch finishes for this term next week. (Last day Tuesday
22nd March) Coaches please return the bags and shirts as soon as possible so we can get them ready for the
winter sports.
Notes will come home shortly for those wanting to play Hockey, Netball or Mini-ball. Please get these forms
back as soon as possible.
Lost Property Once again we have a huge pile of unclaimed, un-named clothing. Please check the staffroom deck on Friday.
The Lost property is all put out on display.
Have a great weekend. Go the Highlanders
