Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the farside of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to himin flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Mosesthought, I will go over and see this strange sightwhy the bush does not burn up. (Exodus 3:3)

"The Lord was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire bynight to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud byday, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people" (Exodus 13:21-22).

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly therecame a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all

filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)

In spite of the habagat rains that flooded parts of the city especially on Monday that surprised and stranded

commuters and created hours-long non-moving traffic jams was the irony of fires that destroyed homes andwhole communities in Tondo and in Quezon City, in the pouring rain. The image of fire that destroys is

contrasted with the other images we find in the Bible: the burning bush of Moses, the column of fire that guided

the Jews journey in the desert and of course, the Pentecostal tongues of fire. Even a forest fire gives rise toa Rebirth and Bro. Erics close hand experience with fire afterwards was followed by his upgrade to a luxury

personal items and a renewed reignited faith on the protective power of intercessory prayer. To God go the

Fire is represented as the symbol of Jehovahs presence and the instrument of his power, in the way either ofapproval or of destruction. ( Exodus 3:2 ; 14:19 ) etc. There could not be a better symbol for Jehovah than this

of fire, it being immaterial, mysterious, but visible, warming, cheering, comforting, but also terrible and

consuming. Parallel with this application of fire and with its symbolical meaning are to be noted the similar usefor sacrificial purposes and the respect paid to it, or to the heavenly bodies as symbols of deity, which prevailed

among so many nations of antiquity, and of which the traces are not even now extinct; e.g. the Sabean and

Magian systems of worship. ( Isaiah 27:9 ) Fire for sacred purposes obtained elsewhere than from the altar wascalled "strange fire," and for the use of such Nadab and Abihu were punished with death by fire from God.
