What a busy term of clubs and PE for Henbury. Everyone in school has had opportunies to- take part in Individual and Colour team compeons. Parcipaon in sport is currently the best it has been in a long me at Henbury, and feedback from all the extra curricular acvi- es, clubs and PE lessons is posive. Recent messages from the government about the PE funding are that, as much as possi- ble ,the funding should be used to ensure that the impact made in PE and School sport should be sustainable and therefore connue when the funding ceases. With this in mind we are connually working together to and ensure that our PE curriculum is top quality in terms of the teaching and the learning that takes place in all of our PE lessons! HEALTHY HENBURY! ACTIVE ASSEMBLY Our Spring term Acve assemblies focused on making healthy lifestyle choices, with the help of the Change4life website and Go Noodle. We played some fun games to get us moving and Mrs Gwillim introduced a Go Noodle challenge to each class in the school. Informaon about these websites has been sent home, but if you missed the leer, then the web- sites are www.nhs.uk/10-minute-shake-up and www.gonoodle.com. Well done in parcular to Ethan in Year 2 for signing up to Go Noodle at home and sharing his cerficates with me and to Mercedes in Year 4 for com- pleng the Henbury Acve Challenge, returning her sheet to show she had completed 60 minutes of physical acvity and HOW she had done it! I would love to see more of these if you also completed the sheet. We also learnt about Sport Relief and in parcular, inspiraonal people, like Greg James, who completed 5 Triathlons, in 5 Cies, in 5 days. We talked about what movates people to challenge themselves in this way, and we completed some Triathlons in the hall!! A sight to behold. And we all agreed that being acve certainly made us smile, and feel happy! STAFF TRAINING Mrs Gwillim completed Module 5 of the PE Subject Co-ordinator Training run by the YOUTH SPORT TRUST, which she began last year. Only one Module to go now, and not only has the course been extremely helpful in providing support on developing all areas of PE and Schools sport both in theory and praccally, but has enabled Mrs Gwillim to share ideas and learn from some very inspiraonal PE co-ordinators in other schools.

Some children managed to improve their balancing by progressing 3 levels further on compleon of the challenge! As many children had completed this challenge last year, it was great to see how some individu-als had really grown in confidence as well as ability!

Everyone received a cerficate at the end of the challenge to recog-nise their efforts.

Overall the winning colour team with most children reaching Step 7 was BLUE TEAM.

BALANCE CHALLENGE

All year groups completed a Gymnasc Balance Challenge, compeng individu-ally to improve their skills of balance. Children had to balance on one foot for a set amount of me, progressing through 8 steps of difficulty. The chal-lenge required strength and control and also determinaon. Children completed the challenge at the beginning and end of a Gymnascs unit of work, and were allowed me to pracse the balances each week.

HENBURY HIKERS

Well, despite the miserable weath-er some of us met at Upton Coun-try Park for a lovely walk this term. Although a smaller group this me, it was a pleasure to talk together with the families who came. The children had a great play on the swing and fun playing together in such a beauful place.

I would like to thank everyone who made the effort to come and hopefully the weather will improve and with the warmth we’ll have more

hikers next me!

GYMNASTIC TASTER

SESSIONS

The Sports Coaches from Sports 1st Academy visited early in the term, to deliver a great Gymnascs Taster Session to each class in the school.

The children learnt about warming up, body shapes and were able to use the apparatus in the hall. It was also a chance for teaching staff to learn from the Coaches.

BASKETBALL TASTER

SESSIONS AND BASKET-

BALL CLUB

We were very lucky to be visited again by the Coaches from Sports 1st Acade-my, who this me delivered a fast and fun Basketball taster session to Years 2,3 and 4. It was so popular and the children enjoyed it so much that over 30 children signed up to take part in the AGer school Basketball club, which began in March and due to its success is connuing in the Summer term.

YOUR TURN TO CHALLENGE

YOURSELF……. GO NOODLE!

During the Spring term, most teachers intro-duced GO NOODLE to the children. This is a fabulous FREE website which provides 100’s of short fun video clips of a wide range of acvies that develop different physical skills, such as Kinesthec Learning, Stretching, Aerobics, Calm-ing, Co-ordinaon. Each me a class uses Go Noodle to exercise during the day, it records the amount of me spent being acve. This has now been set as a termly challenge for each class to see who can be the most acve. During the Spring term our Go Noodle Champs were Year 2 and

Year 3! Now it’s your turn to try at home!!

FUN

RUN The whole

school

took part

in a FUN

RUN, in honour of SPORT RELIEF. Classes

came out to the field and then completed 6

laps of the field. As children completed the

laps, they used a lap counter, to keep count

of their laps. Each child’s finishing posion

was recorded, then an average of top fin-

ishing posions was worked out and BLUE

and RED t eam had the most children finish-

ing in 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

We aim to provide one competition per term

to Years1-4.
