IntroductionThis manual (P/N 03102353-WY01EN)illustrates electrical wiring diagrams forAeromaster® walk-in bodies on the Freightliner“M2000” strip chassis and the “Straight Rail”strip chassis. It is specific to UtilimasterModel Numbers 31, 32, 35, 40, 41, and 42Model Years 2001 to current production.Wiring diagrams are dependent on model andyear of the Freightliner chassis. (See the WiringManual Chart section below.)
This manual covers only those componentsmanufactured by or installed by Utilimaster®
Corporation. Items such as chassis and drive traincomponents or certain interior options arecovered by separate manufacturer-suppliedinformation. Not all options are included in thismanual and some numbers may have changed.

NOTE: In 2002, the Utilimaster Model 31 was replaced by the Model 41 and the Model35 was replaced by the Model 41. Utilimaster’s Model 32 was discontinued in 2004. In2005 the Model 42 was added. Cross-reference Utilimaster’s Body model numbers withFreightliner’s models in the Model Numbers section.

Model NumbersFreightliner Chassis ModelNumbers
Utilimaster builds bodies on Freightliner chassisdesignated by the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating(GVWR). Freightliner chassis model numbersalways start with “MT.” They are MT35, MT45,and MT55.
Utilimaster Body Model Numbers
Utilimaster model numbers include 31, 32, and 35for the “M2000” series and 40, 41, and 42 for the“Straight Rail” series.
What Model Do I Have?
Your vehicle can be referenced by either theFreightliner chassis model number or theUtilimaster body model number. Be careful tonote the difference between Utilimaster’s BodyModel Number 35 and Freightliner Chassis ModelNumber MT35. They are not the same thing.
The fifth and sixth digits in the VIN numberindicate Freightliner’s chassis model numberwhich can be cross-referenced with Utilimaster’sbody model number. (See the chart below and theVIN information on the next page.) There aresome differences that affect parts and optionsbetween the models and model years. OurCustomer Service Department will gladly help ifyou need assistance.

The 15-digit Utilimaster Body (or Unit) SerialNumber is recorded on the Federal CertificationLabel. This label is a plastic decal (about 11" longand 2" high) that contains a variety of manufacturinginformation (including the VIN). This label is foundbetween the quarter window and door. (SeeIllustrations LA–05 and LA–15).
The 17-digit chassis Vehicle Identification Number(VIN) is the legal identifier for this vehicle and is thenumber recorded in the license plate registration. TheVIN appears on a small metal plate on the dash on thedriver’s side. You can read the VIN if you lookthrough the quarter-panel window. (See IllustrationLA–10.) The number is also recorded on the FederalCertification Label. (See Illustration LA–05.)
A 7-digit (including a leading W) Work OrderNumber appears below the Unit Serial Number onthe Federal Certification Label. (See IllustrationLA–05.)

Sheet numbers indicated by last two digits in thedrawing number (lower right-hand corner of thedrawing when viewed at the normal viewingangle) refer to the engineering drawing pagenumbers but are not in numerical order. Thesenumbers are not meant to match the manualsection or page numbers and are otherwise notreferenced.

Reporting Safety DefectsUnited States Only
If you believe that your vehicle has a defect thatcould cause a crash, injury, or death, you shouldimmediately inform the National Highway TrafficSafety Administration (NHTSA), in addition tonotifying Utilimaster.
If NHTSA receives similar complaints, it mayopen an investigation, and if it finds that a safetydefect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order arecall and remedy campaign. However, NHTSAcannot become involved in individual problemsbetween you, your dealer, or Utilimaster.

Safety Considerations—Notes, Cautions, and WarningsAs you read through the procedures, you will come across NOTES, CAUTIONS, and WARNINGS.Each one is there for a specific purpose.
• NOTES give you additional information that will help you to complete the procedure.
• CAUTIONS warn you against making an error that could damage the vehicle.
• WARNINGS remind you to be careful when there is a risk of personal injury.
Below are some basic WARNINGS that you should heed when you work on the vehicle’sbody. They are not all inclusive, however, and common sense must be used when servicing vehicles.
• Always wear safety glasses and other properprotective equipment (gloves, steel-toedshoes, face shields, knee pads, hearingprotection) as appropriate to the process.
• Use safety stands and/or wheel blockswhenever you are underneath the vehicle.
• Put the transmission in Park and set theparking brake before working on the vehicle.
• Be sure that the ignition switch is Off unlessotherwise required by the procedure.
• Operate engines only in well-ventilatedareas.
• Keep yourself and your clothing away fromthe radiator fan, belts, and any moving partswhen the engine is running.
• Keep hands and other objects clear of theradiator fan blades. The electric fan canstart at any time even though the ignition isOff. Disconnect the fan when workingunder the hood.
• Avoid contact with hot metal parts, such asthe radiator or exhaust system.
• Do NOT smoke while working on thevehicle.
• Always remove rings, watches, hangingjewelry, and loose clothing before workingon a vehicle. Tie long hair securely behindyour head.
• Become familiar with all warning labels.
• Always maintain firm footing and control oftools.
• Use only tools that are in good condition,and use them only in the appropriate manner.
• Get help when needed to avoid injuriescaused by overexertion.
• Always be aware of the location of otherpeople and potential trip hazards (e.g., airlines, electrical cords, tools).
• Utilimaster recommends that a licensedautomotive air-conditioning specialistwork on the vehicle’s air-conditioning(HVAC) system.
• Avoid breathing A/C refrigerant andlubricant vapor or mist. Exposure mayirritate eyes, nose, and throat. To removeR-134a from the A/C system use serviceequipment certified to meet the require-ments of SAE J2210 (R-134a recyclingequipment). If accidental system dis-charge occurs, ventilate work area beforeresuming service. Additional health andsafety information may be obtained fromrefrigerant and lubricant manufacturers.

Disconnection
1. Make sure the ignition switch is Off.
2. Disconnect the Negative (black) batterycable(s) first. (See Illustration BA–20.)
3. Tuck the battery cable away from theterminal to prevent accidental contact.
4. When servicing the vehicle is finished,reconnect the cable.
Removal
1. Disconnect battery. (See theDisconnection section.)
2. Remove the Positive battery cable(s).
3. Remove the battery hold-downs.
4. Note the location of the posts and removethe battery from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Install the battery in the battery tray—inthe same orientation.
2. Secure the battery hold-downs.
3. Connect the battery cables, Negative last.
NOTE: Remember to fasten theaccess panel.
