AFTERSCHOOL TEACHING ARTISTS NEEDED! A.G. GASTON BOYS & GIRLS CLUB & BIRMINGHAM CITY SCHOOLS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
FOR SPECIALIZED AREAS: PERFORMING ARTS: DANCE, VOCAL MUSIC, DRAMA/THEATER, MUSIC (DRUMMING), MARTIAL ARTS, VISUAL ARTS
HOURLY WAGE: $20-‐ $25 Per Hour LOCATION: Assigned to an Elementary or Middle school in the
Birmingham City School District
DAYS: TIME:
Monday -‐Thursday Between 3:00-‐5:30 P; 1-‐ hour class length
CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as a part time/seasonal position and is not eligible for health benefits or paid leave. This position is an at-‐will position with a Independent Contractor Agreement/Contract.

SPECIALIZED AREAS: Performing & Visual Arts; Martial Arts. Please clearly indicate your area of interest on the application form and describe/detail your skill set in area.
DUTIES: This position is responsible for instructing and mentoring youth, ages 7 -‐12 years, for 1 hr/ 4-‐days per week; demonstrating ongoing support and encouragement in learning and self-‐expression through age appropriate activities. Duties include developing daily program lesson plans, while demonstrating strong communication and leadership skills with Youth and staff. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience and/or formal education in area of instruction (please clearly indicate this in your application form): o Performing and Visual Arts – music, dance, drama, percussion drums, painting, step-‐team, knitting, drawing. o Martial Arts– Karate, Taekwondo, Capoeira Must enjoy working with youth ages 7 -‐12 years of age. Previous experience working with urban Youth preferred. Must have strong leadership and classroom management skills. Must be at least 17 years of age (age 21 preferred). Must have the ability to attend monthly staff and professional development meetings. Must have the ability to work independently and with little direction. Must have good communication and organizational skills. Must be timely, reliable and dependable.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Current valid First Aid and CPR Card preferred. Employment is subject to a Background Check Job applicants must be able to prove authorization to work in the United States at the time of a job offer as required by the 1986 Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act. Documentation establishing authorization to work may include a Social Security Card, picture ID and/or other approved documentation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Agility to perform activities in assigned area. Sight to prepare written or typed recreational and leisure program material and monitor activities. Hearing and speaking to conduct classes and exchange information.
