Porsche Club News 4 /05 19 It was truly a remarkable trip: to mark its 35th anniversary, the Porsche Club Seetal Lucerne organised a 17-day tour of Spain. This was arranged by Martin Kammerbauer, Vice President of the Club, and his wife. 17 Porsches, each with a driver and passenger, made their way to the Costa Brava where the tour began. This led pre- dominantly through Andalusia, and offered all that was needed to experi- ence the country’s most attractive fea- tures. Included were excursions to popular destinations such as Granada with the Alhambra, or Ronda, Cordo- ba, Seville and the port city of Cadiz. The programme entailed a perform- ance by the Spanish Court Riding School, as well as a flamenco show and a visit to a traditional bodega. Some destinations were reached by bus. However the Porsches were used to reach the majority. No mechanical problems arose. When lined up in a parking area, the vehicles often attracted scores of spectators. Essential driving fun was provided not just by the sometimes-wayward roads and fascinating landscapes, but also the opportunity to put the cars through their paces on a variety of racing tracks. For example, the Porsche drivers were welcome guests on the Circuito de Jerez, the Circuito de Calafat and the Circuito de Albacete, where in return for a number of circuits on the track, the track operator asked for permission to take photographs of the Club vehicles in the drivers’ quar- ters, in the pits and on the finishing straight. By the end of the tour each team had clocked up around 5,600 kilometres, and no one regretted even a single metre of this. Porsche Parade to mark the 50th anniversary of the PorscheClub of America

“As keen and enthusiastic members ofthe Porsche Club of America, you aremaking an essential contribution to thePorsche brand and to the Porsche legend,” stressed Hans-Peter Porschein his speech at the Porsche Parade2005. Indeed: what the Porsche Clubof America created with this 50thPorsche Parade was probably withoutparallel. From 25 June to 2 July, Her-shey, the city of fine chocolate in theUS state of Pennsylvania, was trans-formed into a metropolis of the sportscar “made in Germany”.

The Porsche Club of America, which isthe biggest Porsche Club of all withover 50,000 members, celebrated its50th anniversary. And Porsche enthu-siasts from across the USA took partin the celebrations. They all experi-enced a week packed full of activitiesassociated with the topic of Porsche(see picture gallery under:www11,porsche.com/all/transitional/usa/clubs/pca/50thanniversary/).

This included, for example, a cross-country tour, a regularity competitionover 115 miles or the so-called Gim-mick Rally, designed as a family excur-sion through the territory of the AmishPeople.

At its events, the Porsche Club ofAmerica always places great value ona family or children’s programme. Andon this occasion, therefore, young participants were able to enjoy a pizzaparty, races with remote-controlledautomobiles, minigolf and a visit to azoo. Mothers and fathers with a thirstfor knowledge were able to take partin various technology seminars, a golfcompetition, and an exhibition of art.A spare parts market was also organ-ised. Plenty of entertainment was alsoprovided in the evenings: no less thanfive banquets were held during thecourse of this week.

A particular spectacle – quite apartfrom the participants’ traditional vehicleparade over 10.2 miles through Her-shey – came in the form of the over

On an area of around 2,000 m2, visi-tors were introduced not just to thehistory of the Porsche brand, but alsoexperienced an entertaining journeythrough the past 50 years of thePorsche Club of America.

No, this parade had no shortage ofhighlights. The event was organisedwith the close support of Porsche CarsNorth America and of Porsche AG.Porsche itself provided a particularhighlight. Dr. Wolfgang and Hans-PeterPorsche unveiled the Porsche 911Club Coupé, a special edition limitedto 50 vehicles. This had been createdspecially to mark the anniversary ofthe Porsche Club of America Club, andcan be bought only by members of thePorsche Club of America (see PorscheClub News 3/2005). And as a thank-you for their long-standing loyalty tothe Porsche brand, members of thePorsche Club of America also have thechance to win one of these Coupés,painted in Azzurro California Metallic. The winner will be chosen at the PetitLe Mans Race on 1 October 2005 inBraselton, Georgia.

700 Porsches of all models and vin-tages. These were distributed overHershey’s golf course: the completePorsche history, presented on a greencarpet. The Concours d’Elégance re-sembled the famous classic event inPebble Beach. This also meant, ofcourse, that the obligatory ramp wasalso provided. The most beautiful ofall Porsches were driven over thisramp by their owners, to thunderousapplause.

A fascinating insight into Porsche his-tory was granted by the “HistoricPorsche Display” held at the Concoursd’Elégance. This involved over 70 his-toric Porsche road vehicles and racingcars. A number of extremely rare vehicles were present, such as e.g.the first Spyder 550-01 from 1953,which had long been considered lost,as well as vehicles specially shippedover from the company’s museum inZuffenhausen. For example, a 917stretch boot from the year 1970, anda Formula 1 from 1960 were includedin the exhibition.

Porsche Club Roland zu Bremen

“Fahrschnack”

“Above the clouds, freedom must belimitless,” once sang Reinhard Mey.Those taking part in the first “Fahr-schnack” of the Porsche Club Rolandof Bremen discovered that there canalso be freedom below the clouds. Theword Fahrschnack, derived from NorthGerman dialect, means a successfulblend of sports driving and cosy con-viviality. Three of the Club’s sports rep-resentatives marked out a track atRotenburg Airport. Participants wereable to try this out, without regard forany speed limits. Generous use wasmade of this boundless freedom. Par-ticipants subsequently convened at theairport’s Tower Restaurant to spendthe remainder of the day enjoying abuffet and car talk.

The success of this first “Fahrschnack”was so great that a repeat event waspromptly organised. This had addition-al attractions. The rain came down inbuckets. Here, however, drivers wereable to put their foot down without the

usual constraints of public roads. Itwas therefore possible to push thecars to their limits, without puttingthemselves or others in too much jeop-ardy. The “Fahrschnack” concept hasproven to be a tremendous successfor the Club and its directors.

Jean-Pierre Wybauw is a well-knownchocolate-maker. He presents cours-es around the world about the secretsof chocolate processing. In the USAhe has even been named “CulinaryChef of the Year.” “Chocolat sans fron-tières” is the title of one of his booksabout this, the sweetest of tempta-tions. The book is due to be publishedin September. Profits from the sale of this work are to be donated to the organisation “Doctors without Borders.”

Stef Mintiens from the Porsche ClassicClub Belgium found this such an excel-lent idea that he got together withWybauw to create a Porsche 356Speedster in chocolate in the scale1:2. This work of art, made of 28 kilo-grams of fine Callebaut chocolate wasused for marketing purposes in con-junction with the above-mentionedbook, and is due to be auctioned atthe end of the year on E-Bay. The proceeds will likewise be donated to “Doctors Without Borders.” Thoseinterested in buying the approx. EUR20.00 book should contact StefanieDeblaere, Tel.: +32 (0)51 42 42 80.
