JUNE 2010 From the President’s Desk Dear Friends, Summer is just around the corner, and students (and their teachers) are anxiously awaiting their last day of school. The 2009-10 school year was a busy one for our Education Department. 170 students com- peted in Scholastic Scrimmage, over 1,200 students and their guardians took part in the Raising Readers literacy program, and the eLearning for Educators program served nearly 600 teachers – more than twice as many as the year before! A special thank you to all of our hardworking facilitators and educational partners! As summer begins so does a series of new programs that are sure to warm the heart and tantalize your senses. I am personally looking forward to a new spe- cial featuring two of my favorite musicians, Carole King and James Taylor, as they cele- brate the 50th Anniversary of Los Angeles’s famed Troubadour nightclub. June also marks the start of season 8 of History Detectives! America's top gumshoes are back to prove once again that an object found in an attic or backyard might be anything but ordinary. Thank you for your continued support, and best wishes for a wonderful June. Patricia C. Simon President & CEO, PBS39

JUNE 2010

From the President’s Desk

Dear Friends,

Summer is just around the corner, and students

(and their teachers) are anxiously awaiting

their last day of school.

The 2009-10 school year was a busy one for

our Education Department. 170 students com-

peted in Scholastic Scrimmage, over 1,200

students and their guardians took part in the

Raising Readers literacy program, and the

eLearning for Educators program served nearly

600 teachers – more than twice as many as the

year before!

A special thank you to all of our hardworking

facilitators and educational partners!

As summer begins so does a series of new

programs that are sure to warm the heart and

tantalize your senses.

I am personally looking forward to a new spe-

cial featuring two of my favorite musicians,

Carole King and James Taylor, as they cele-

brate the 50th Anniversary of Los Angeles’s

famed Troubadour nightclub.

June also marks the start of season 8 of

History Detectives! America's top gumshoes

are back to prove once again that an object

found in an attic or backyard might be anything

but ordinary.

Thank you for your continued support, and

best wishes for a wonderful June.
