IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT DORY HALL

It is building decision time. Please attend the Thursday, Aug. 1, general meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. at the club building to share your views. “The Aug. 1 general meeting will be when our club must make some important decisions,” Hall said. “Do we become landlords and own our own building or do we remain as renters?” Necessary costs and repairs if purchasing the current building will be discussed, along with other options. Does the club remain in its current location? Move and rent another location? Or consider other options?

We must give Steve Hanson a decision.

The other end of the leash ... a note to members from your Training Directors

The Greater Kansas City Dog Training Club continues to offer a high quality training experience for dogs and handlers. We are proud to be associated with all of you — approximately 170 members.

After each class students complete a Satisfaction Survey. Overall the club receives very high marks for the knowledge of the instructors and our curriculum.

On behalf of the three of us – your trio of training directors – please accept our thanks to all of our instructors and assistant instructors who have been diligent in volunteering to fill these training positions.

There are many choices for training classes in the city. The professionalism and knowledge of our instructors and assistants sets us apart from other training resources. There is a wealth of dog wisdom in our club with many sports and breeds. That is rare and we are special.

Like many of you, in addition to serving as training directors, we teach class and take classes with our own dogs. We are both instructors and students. When teaching, we follow the GKCDTC printed curriculum while imparting “tips” that come from personal (sometimes hilarious) experiences. As instructors we try to keep all students engaged and working during our classes.

Many times we have other instructors taking our classes who have suggestions to offer to students. It is appreciated that this be done with permission of the class instructor and delivered in such a way not to undermine the respect of the instructor by non-member students.

Dogs have a way of reminding us as instructors that we don’t know everything and should keep open minds to new ideas and techniques. Let’s encourage students to enjoy our classes but not to have private discussion going on while an instructor is giving class instructions.

Neida Heusinkvelt: The goldens Lindy and Bryce competed at the Summer Spectacular at the Red Barn Event Centre in Barrie, Ontario CANADA the last weekend of June. Great site, wonderful competitors and judges, outstanding organizers, great weather two of the three days for outdoor agility and indoor obedience and rally-O trials for crazy versatile competitors like me; plus got to camp onsite in the RV. A super fun weekend and icing on the cake was qualifying first place scores in 4 for 4 obedience runs, 3 for 3 rally runs, and 4 of 8 agility runs and winning a daily runoff in obedience against the first place winners in all the other obedience classes. So Bryce came home sporting a new Canadian CD and two CDX legs, a Canadian Rally RA, and Canadian AGN plus Novice JWW and Intermediate Standard agility legs. Veteran Lindy at age 11+ also got to clean run a veteran sweepstakes class that felt like poetry in motion.

BRAGS

Lisa Kramer: Panzer and I have had a busy couple of months. First we competed in the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Kansas City trials and finished our Open title with a second place. Then we competed at the German Shepherd Dog Club of Greater Kansas City trial in mid-July.

We were lucky enough to get our first two legs in Graduate Open with respectable scores and a first place for each. Thank you to the GRCGKC and the GSDCGKC for offering the very nice trials, and to Judge Jeannie Ramirez and Judge Robert Burgin for being fun and consistent.

Rosi von Fintel: On June 29, at the tender age of 14 months, Bunty became a Pet Therapy dog by passing her certification test with Pet Partners. We now look forward to bringing smiles and diversion to many lives. It is something she already excels at!

Bunty finished her Beginner Novice title at the GSDCGKC trials July 13 and 14. She is now officially Caradoc’s Tell Me A Story, BN, CGC.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS – Dory gave an update on the building issue. It is going to take more time to resolve. Things being considered are the renters downstairs, insurance for the building, and what repairs are needed. More information is being sought from an attorney and the insur-ance company. The bank has pre-approved a loan should the club purchase. Additional op-tional buildings to rent are also being explored. If any club member or group wishes to pur-chase the building, please contact any board member.
