    PATIENT CARE AND MANAGEMENT

    Prevention is always better than treatment for the patient with injury or illness, but

    no one is immune no illness, natural disasters, or human error. Care must be taken toensure that good patient care and management are provided. The principles of care and

    protection are constant and cannot be overemphasized.

    The following requirements are required for optimal patient care

    !. Practice high"quality radiographic techniques that include radiation safety in a

    manner that will minimize further injury or complications.

    #. Prevent the spread of disease and injury to others.$. Prevents hazardous or crippling complications of injuries or illnesses

    %. &lleviate suffering by comforting the patient and preventing emotionalcomplications.

    '. Provide the service as economically and in as timely a way as possible while

    maintaining consistent diagnostic quality.

    " The information on the e3amination verified or matched to the patient4s wristband

    on the patient4s arrival to the e3amination room." Properly identifying complete patient4s data,

    P&T+)T T*&1)*" Patient must be informed as to where they are to be transported, and assistance must

    be given when necessary to ensure safe and comfortable transport.

    Place your body in the correct position before moving or lifting

    Place your feet far enough apart to maintain proper balance and to provide a basis

    of support

    strain by centralizing the total weight within your grasp

    " &ll equipment and accessories must be made readily available, but they must not

    come in contact with the patient until time of use.

    " Cassettesshould be placed in a pillowcase during e3amination." Case housingof radiographic equipment should be wiped with disinfectant solution

    before leaving the unit.

    " patients with wounds, or those in respiratory isolation can be brought into theradiology department but must be kept separate, e3amined quickly, and promptly

    returned into their units

    " &fter the e3amination, radiographic room, table and equipment used must be

    " *adiologic Technologist must e3ercise constant watchfulness to avoidcontaminating sterile objects and the reserved space on the surgical side of the table.

    " The following items are based on the major principles of the techniques and are

    offered as a guide

    !. &n article is either sterile or unsterile, there is no in"between. +s any doubt e3ist,you must consider the article to be unsterile.

    #. 1terile articles must be kept covered until ready to use.$. -nly the outside of the wrapper or cover is touched when opening an sterile

    package or container.

    %. &fter an article is removed from a sterile container, it is not to be returned to thatcontainer.

    '. & sterile article is handled with a sterile instrument or sterile gloves.

    8. 6hen removing an article from a sterile container, use the forceps provided.

    &lways hold the tip of the forceps downward. +f you must lay down the cover,turn it upside down on a flat surface.

    9. 6hen a container becomes contaminated, dispose of it at once. Turn the cover to
