What is Pathways?

The Pathways Program is a small learning community designed to engage students through an

individualized educational curriculum with a focus on “making real” the post-graduation opportunities that

are available to students. Our goal is to help students find their passion and the path to their

future careers through a combination of internships and successful completion of college courses, and/or vocational training through the Regional Occupation

Program. (ROP)

August

August looks forward to challenging himself in Pathways this semester, his last in high school. He hopes to develop and practice skills which will help him in college and professionally. He is working to secure placement in a live and work abroad program after graduation, deferring college application until the fall. In addition to working in order to save money for college, he is seeking a challenging internship which demands independence and organization. He chose to take Astronomy and Business classes at College of Marin to practice study skills and get insight into two fields that interest him. This, along with a large load of English work at San Andreas, should also be good preparation for the rigors of a university.

Mackenzie is feeling very optimistic about this new path. She will be doing her internship with PYC, a local youth group.

Last semester Katherine took a multimedia class at College of Marin, as she thought she might want to pursue graphic design as a future career and discovered she is not very passionate about that subject. This semester Katherine will be taking Human Sexuality. She does not plan to incorporate this into her future career, but simply finds it interesting. In terms of Katherine’s life after high school, she is thinking she might want to pursue massage therapy. This has always been a thought in the back of Katherine’s mind, but not something she considered seriously until recently. She thinks this would be a good career for her as she has strong hands and it would be good for her physique. Katherine knows she won’t be able to get an internship doing massage, as you can’t do that without training and certification, but hopes she can get something in that field, so she can get familiar with that environment.
