Alberto Marvelli, a young Italian layman, exempli-fied a path to holiness that, as Pope John Paul II noted, lies in “construction of God’s kingdom in fam-ily, work, culture, and politics, taking the Gospel into the heart of society.” Alberto experienced this calling at an early age, writing in his diary, “My program of life is summed up in one word: holy. At the age of eighteen Alberto became a leader of Catholic Action, setting himself to serve the poor in every way he could. As he wrote, “It is better to serve than to be served: Jesus serves.” After study-ing engineering he found work in a Fiat factory, while also leading Catholic study groups. During the war, he and his family fled the city of Rimini to escape nightly bombardments. Still, he found ways to slip back into the city to bring supplies and to help care for the sick and wounded. During the German occu-pation he risked his life by freeing deportees from sealed boxcars in the train station. After the war he was put in charge of housing in the ruined city of Riminii. He was elected a town councilor, organized a soup kitchen, and became active in the Christian Democratic Party. He showed every promise of playing an important role in the re-construction of his country. But on October 5, 1946. while bicycling from a political meeting, he was struck by a truck and killed. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

This past August 9 marked the fifth anniversary of the events in Ferguson, Missouri, which have mobi-lized people of all faiths to pray seeking peace and justice in our city, nation, and other areas of our world facing troubling situations.

Like you and many others throughout the Archdiocese and City of St. Louis, I have been troubled by the violence taking place in our communities. There were 53 people killed in mass shootings in the US in August alone and 18 children have fallen victim to gun violence across the St. Louis area over the summer months.

People of faith and all people of goodwill cannot stand idly by while such violent acts against the dignity and sanctity of human life are taking place in our beloved city. I was recently approached by members of the Metropolitan Clergy Coalition (MCC) and asked to convene an inter-faith prayer service to pray for an end to violence.

Roman Catholics make up almost 25% of the population of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area and the MCC wants all Catholics to be involved in this prayer service in order to make it a truly unified event.

Faith leaders from over ten different denominations and their congregants will be participating at a special prayer service to be held at Cardinal Ritter College Preparatory High School at 3:00 PM on Sunday, Octo-ber 27. I want to extend a personal invitation to you to participate in praying for an end to all forms of violence, but in particular gun violence, in our city.

In His prayer at the Last Supper as recorded in the Gospel of Saint John, Jesus prayed “’Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled” (JN 14:27). Let us pray for the courage and grace to truly be instruments of Christ’s love and peace with all those we meet, without exception.

It is scary to tell a spouse or fiancé(e) about a past abortion. It requires great trust in that person’s love and trust in God. But with the help of an abortion healing ministry, couples can success-fully work through abortion-related challenges, God’s grace can bring true healing to the relation-ships of those who trust in His infinite mercy.

The Church affirms the inviolable dignity of every person, regardless of the duration or extent of the person’s incapacity. Nothing dimin-ishes the sanctity of a person’s life, or the obligation to protect and care for it. Those who are sick should not be alone, and, even after death, accompani-ment continues by praying for those who have passed.

Annual Faithful Departed Memorial Mass November 1st - 7:00 PM

Especially for any families who have a loved one who has passed on since last November 2, 2018.

On Friday, November 1st at the 7:00 pm Mass, we will have a memorial service for all of the parish-ioners and the loved ones of parishioners who died from November 2018 to October 2019. Upcoming Parish Council Sponsored Events… Christmas Tree Decorating Contest: Details and applications will appear in every bulletin from now until the cut-off date in December. Competitors can be parish organizations like the Youth Group or Ladies Sodality, families, informal groups like the Sunday Morning Breakfast Club (friends that get together for breakfast after mass on Sundays.) We will provide the tree and lights for the tree. You provide the design and the ornaments. Watch for the details and the application. Join in the fun!!! Win a prize!!! 100th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration. On May 16, 2021 (yes - 20 months from now), St. Anthony of Padua in High Ridge, MO will celebrate our 100th year Anniver-sary as a parish. Prior to that we were a mission parish but because of the hard work and dedication of our forefathers, we became a parish. Over the next 20 months, we will be working hard to organize and host a wonderful celebration. We will be anxious to hear from fellow parishioners with suggestions for this celebration. Members of the Council will be reaching out to several parishioners to join in and help us. We will have notices in the bulletin, make personal contact and/or accept referrals from fellow parish members. We are truly excited to make this a wonderful, exciting and very special event. Children’s Liturgy of the Word Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. This program is designed for children ages three through nine. Children’s Liturgy of the Word brings the Gospel to the children in an enlightening and meaningful way and at their level of understanding. Through appropriately adapted Scripture texts, music, prayer, and activities that reinforce the Gospel message, the children have an opportunity to celebrate their faith in a way that is joyful and relevant to their own young lives. The children are escorted out of mass by the program catechists after the Opening Prayer and return to mass at Offertory.
