Past perfect subjunctive formation

Keep in mind everything you have learned:

1. To use the subjunctive you must have a WEIRDO in the main clause.

2. To create a perfect tense you must have a conjugation of haber followed by the past participle which is a verb that ends in ado / ido.

3. Haber must be conjugated in the past subjunctive which means that you must conjugate haber in the 3rd person Preterite, drop the “on, and add a “a” ending

Past perfect subjunctive use

English Equivalent: had done in a subordinate clause (after a WEIRDO)

Sentence Structure: PAST conjunction PAST

The verb in the main clause (WEIRDO) must be conjugated in the Preterite or in the Imperfect (PAST Tense)

The action in the subordinate clause must have taken place before the action in the main clause (PAST Tense)

Esperaba que ellos hubieran disfrutado del festival de artes

No había nadie que hubiera visto esta obra de teatro antes.
