Leadership shows itself in many forms. As you read through our Annual Report, I hope you too, feel a sense of pride at the unique approaches our leaders have taken to assist our community. I hope it inspires you to consider creative ways in which you can make a difference in the lives of our families. As you are well aware, when we work effectively together, greater impact results. Partnership for Families (PFF) will continue to invest in young children – creating environments for them to thrive, even in the most challenging of circumstances. By supporting families and their babies’ positive development from birth, we create the greatest opportunity for them to reach their full potential. Our youngest children need us. Our future is counting on it.
Here at PFF we are continuous learners. Every day we are listening and learning about the families we serve. We are excited about our intentional, data-driven approach to serve more families effectively. Moving forward, our compass is to authentically engage and cultivate parents as leaders and continue to connect them to vital resources in the community. As we celebrate another year of success, we owe a huge debt to our partners and Board of Directors for working together to enrich the lives of others. To each of you who support
our mission in some way, we are humbled by your generous support of our collective efforts to educate the child, engage the community, and ultimately, strengthen the family.
With gratitude,
Veronica FlemingExecutive Director Partnership for Families

Our Partners
Leading Together Data collaborative initiative
No single organization is responsible for any major social problem, nor can any single organization cure it. As we collaborate to serve children, it has become increasingly important to show evidence of family progress. To better coordinate efforts in this area, PFF established a Data Collaborative Initiative. In collaboration with leaders of 10 partner organizations, we are implementing a system that, with parent permission, will allow us to efficiently make referrals, follow up with families, and track the impact of our work with families over time. This process will ultimately place our clients on a faster tract to self-sufficiency and a brighter future.

A Story of Promise
“Partnership for Families worked with me to create a plan,” says TeShay, gratefully. When her son
Jayden was born, he weighed a mere 1 lb., 11 ounces. He was tiny, but mighty! When Jayden
arrived home from the hospital, TeShay had to return to work at a fast food restaurant and
desperately wanted a quality daycare for her son, but was unable to afford it. As a high school
graduate, TeShay knew the importance of a sound educational foundation. She took the initiative
and applied for a childcare scholarship, offered by PFF, and Jayden is now enrolled in the VCU
Child Care Center. Teshay also receives valuable assistance with transportation to get Jayden to
and from the center. Jayden has had many challenges – among them, speech delays and learning
to walk. TeShay enthusiastically explains how Jayden’s teachers have taught him sign language
to communicate while he masters his verbal skills. He is now walking everywhere! She is forever
grateful for the impact PFF has had in her life. TeShay’s
dream for the future? “I want a career, not just a job,” she
says. “And I want to move to a better neighborhood.” Teshay
is gaining valuable knowledge about finances by enrolling
in the Financial Opportunity Center housed at PFF. Her goal
of obtaining a nursing degree is in sight. Teshay smiles and
states, “My future looks bright, thanks to PPF!”

A Leader with Vision Lora M. Robins had a vision. She wanted all families in the Northside of Richmond to have a place to access healthcare, educational opportunities and family services. Most importantly, she wanted to ensure that children have healthy stable environments and are ready for kindergarten. With this vision, Partnership for Families was conceived. At a dedication last summer, our facility was renamed
the Lora M. Robins Family Learning Center in her memory. Her legacy of compassion continues and will forever plant seeds of hope in our community.

Parents as Leaderscommonwealth Parenting
Parenting isn’t easy, but developing good parenting skills will ensure a stronger bond with your child! Here at Partnership for Families we have opportunities for parents to participate in interactive and FUN classes. A participant stated, “Raising kids can be hard and this class gives me information that is practical and useful.” We are grateful to our partner agency, Commonwealth Parenting powered by the Children’s Museum of Richmond, which teaches classes on a variety of topics including family stress, discipline and proactive parenting skills. Commonwealth Parenting also offers weekly family play groups in the communities of Gilpin and Creighton Court. For more information, go to c-mor.org/commonwealthparenting.

cobb technologies
Often, many of the parents we serve come to our facility for services with their children in tow. Partnership for Families recognizes the need for educational activities to engage the children while their parents are busy acquiring valuable assistance. This was the impetus for “Wagons of Wonder!” Thanks to the generosity of Cobb Technologies, we now have two wagons filled with educational activities and books to keep the children engaged.

The reality of summer reading loss is well documented. Through a one-time service project, Royall and Company, with the help of their Mentoring Program participants, created tote bags filled to the brim with educational activities and books for children attending our Summer Festival in July. Thank you!

FREE LIBRARY A big thank you to Grace Cornell, a Girl Scout and eighth grader at Collegiate School, for creating a free library for our community right outside our door. The free library is filled with children’s books for families in our community to enjoy. Grace says, “I really wanted to do something that would benefit kids. After I toured PFF, I knew I wanted to do something with books.” Thank you, Grace!
CREATEATHON – CreateAthon and Collegiate School worked collaboratively to create an impactful video for PFF to share our mission and stories of success. We are grateful to the Collegiate students for their generous gift of time and talent.
JUNIOR BOARD – Who says millennials can’t change the world? Our Junior Board is a dedicated group of young professionals and we are inspired by their generosity, oodles of energy and steadfast support. Board member Maggie Murphy, a Regulatory Affairs Associate at BIO-CAT, Inc. shares her passion for PFF: “Children are the future. Making a difference, whether minor or major, in a child’s life today can have a wonderful impact on the world down the road.”
