  • Open Discovery SpaceODS comes at the right time to showcase and raise awareness of the benefits of eLearning

    - Khalil Rouhana, Director, European Commission.

ICT offers Europe’s schools unprecedented opportunities to improve teaching and learning for students of every age. The EU and the Member States have undertaken a number of actions over the years to harness the innovativepotential of European education. To date, however, such efforts have suffered from fragmentation and short-termism.

Open Discovery Space addresses the challenge of modernising school education by engaging teachers, students, parents and policymakers in a first of its kind effort to create a pan-European eLearning environment to promote more flexible and creative ways of learning by improving the way educational content is produced, accessed and used.

Open Discovery Space creates a multi-lingual, community-oriented social platform that will encourage teachers, students and parents to discover, discuss, share, shape and acquire Europe’s rich array of teaching, learning and research materials.

Open Discovery Space cultivates sharing and collaboration, making the teacher the core node of a creative community

    - Dr. Sofoklis Sotiriou, Ellinogermaniki Agogi, Greece.

Open Discovery Space advances the key goals of the Digital Agenda for Europe: Action 68 by:

    • Creating an atmosphere conducive to the use of ICT in teaching and learning.

    • Encouraging the co-production and use of eLearning resources by teachers, students and school communities.

    • Supporting the development of user-friendly ICT-enabled teaching and learning tools.

    • Ensuring that publicly funded educational material is freely available.

    • Genereting opportunities for sharing educational resources across European languages and cultures.

A Europe open to digital content, open to personalised learning and open to collaborative learning networks.

Open Discovery Space gathers teachers, students and parents to create new communities of schools across Europe that together will drive the promotion and uptake of innovative ICT-enabled teaching and learning practices.

Open Discovery Space envisions a Europe in which learners of every age are able to use eLearning resources to tap into, share, shape and reshape Europe’s rich array of existing educational material.

Open Discovery Space motivates teachers across Europe to create innovative digital learning resources and teaching practices. The project uses a bottom up, collaborative method to drive the uptake of digital learning resources and inspire teachers to develop and use innovative, ICT-enabled teaching practices.

Open Discovery Space is an influential engine of change and innovation in education by introducing collaboration and use of digital resources in the learning process

    - Antonis RAMFOS, Director of Research and Innovation, INTRASOFT International.

Open Discovery Space supports the 2012 ‘Opening Up Education’ initiative of the European Commission DG Education and Culture and UNESCO’s 2012 Paris OER Declaration (OER: Open Educational Resources).

Open Discovery Space is a vibrant community-oriented social platform that delivers:

    • A pan-European social support network for teachers by teachers.

    • State of the art tools - adaptable to local needs, languages and culture - to enable teachers to discover, collaborate , exchange and share resources and best practice across Europe.
