They have donated over $8 million to health care. Lynda Avis is in her 3 rd year as President having served on the board in various executive positions. She has served the Nanaimo community in many volunteer capacities including the Nanaimo Parks and Recreation Commission, the Grants Advisory and Culture Committees and currently the Trillium Lodge Auxiliary in Parksville, to name a few. o Saturday walks are “surprise” walks in the local area – actual destination unknown until Saturday morning.

o Tuesday walks are scheduled walks farther afield.o Upcoming walks for August include Buttertubs Marsh and Bowen, Mount Washington,

Nile Creek, Big Tree and Rosewall Creek.

o Wednesday, September 25th, 2017o Lunch: 12:00 pm at Deez Bar & Grill, 3353 Island Hwy West Qualicum Beacho Tour: 1:30 – 3:00 pm Big Qualicum Hatchery, 215 Fisheries Road, Qualicum Beach.o Guided tour of the BIG QUALICUM HATCHERY PROJECT. Learn about the propagation of

salmon species. Watch large Chinook (spring) salmon from an underground viewing room as the fish migrate up the Big Qualicum River to spawn. See how the eggs are collected and fertilized in order to raise thousands of fish to release back into the river.

o Lunch will be at Deez Grill and is optional. You will have 3 meal choices and the cost will be $20 per person. Price includes meal, coffee, dessert as well as taxes and tip.

o Meal options are: Steak and mushroom pie with potatoes and vegetables Lemon chicken with rice and vegetables Teriyaki chicken with rice and vegetables

o These events are very popular and often require a pre-payment to book space/bus, etc. so please bring your cheque book or cash and pay when you sign up.

MEMBERSHIPCurrent membership and a signed Release of Liability form are required in order to participate in Club Activities and Club Events.

MEMBERSHIP FEESMembership fees are $15.00 per person for the year (September through to August). Fees for new members are pro-rated over 10 months ($1.50/month) and adjusted according to the month joined. Membership renewals must be received by the November Monthly Meeting or membership will lapse.Fees can be paid at the Membership table on the evening of the monthly meeting between 6:30 and 7:30 pm. Membership closes during the meeting. New member sign ups and renewals will be taken after the meeting ends.Custom name tags are $7.00 per name tag and are ready for pick up at the next meeting.

RELEASE OF LIABILITYIn keeping with our bylaws, the Executive of the Parksville Newcomers’ Club needs each member to sign a “Release of Liability” form in advance of participating in any activities or events organized by the Club. This form also provides the Club with authorization to share contact information with other members of the Club for the purpose of Club activities and confirms your authorization to receive e-mail communications from the Club. This form covers the term of active membership in the Club. The form is available at the monthly meeting and on the website.

EVENTS AND SPECIAL EVENTSEvent costs are not included in the annual dues. Event related costs will be identified in advance by the Event Co-ordinators.
