As part of the activities some 3,500 children registered to take part in the free family fun days in the parks and when you add in the adults that accompanied them, there were over 8,000 people in the parks for the Summer Fun days alone! Free Tree Scheme As part of the annual free tree scheme run nationally, Sefton’s Tree and Woodland Team, together with the Park Rangers will be giving away free trees at various venues across the borough at the end of November/ venue near you, consult the calendar inside. Volunteer Park Ranger Opportunities Do you enjoy working outside? Do you want to learn new skills? Are you interested in putting something back into your local park? Why not have a go at volunteering with us. We have opportunities for local people to volunteer will also receive training in various aspects of the role, including: Park Safety; Responsible dog ownership; Event & Activity Planning & Management; Customer Service; Grounds Maintenance; Gardening Activities; Nature Conservation; Outdoor Sports Activities; Working with schools & young people; Working with Friends of Parks Groups & the local community. Garden Volunteers (Hesketh Park, Southport)Alternate Tuesdays starting 4 October, 14:00Come and join our small friendly team of volunteers who enjoy a couple of hours light gardening and chat, alongside the Park Rangers, in the gardens of the park. Meet at the Café, tools and gloves provided. Community Practical Session (Duke Street Park, Formby) 1st Thursday of the Month starting 6 October, 10:00 You are welcome to come along and get involved with local residents and parks staff in making Duke Street Park a better place for all to enjoy. Meet near the tennis courts, support, tools and gloves provided.Litter Pick (Seafront Gardens, Waterloo)Every 2nd Saturday of the Month starting 8 October, 10:30Come and join the Friends of Waterloo Seafront Gardens in cleaning up the Seafront Gardens. All tools and equipment is supplied, meeting point is posted in the notice board outside Marine Gardens.Community Practical Session (Marian Gardens, Netherton) Various dates, 10:00You are welcome to come along and get involved with local residents and parks staff in making Marian Gardens a better place for all to enjoy. All support, tools and gloves provided.Community Practical Session (Lonsdale Park, Litherland) Various dates, 13:00You are welcome to come along and get involved with local residents and parks staff in making Lonsdale Park a better place for all to enjoy. Buggy Motion (Bedford Park, Southport) Mondays from 3 October, 10:00Exercise class for new mums bringing along baby in buggy run in conjunction with Farnborough Road Children’s Centre SureStart programme. The class will involve basic low intensity circuit of park with exercises. To book on a session please contact: 01704 572579.Scarecrow Workshop (Marine Gardens, Waterloo)15 October, 14:00 This is a chance to come and learn the techniques to make a scarecrow. Once you have mastered the skills, make a scarecrow to be entered into the festival on the 29 October.

Jack O Lanterns (Various Parks) Various Dates, 14:00This event is in time to make a traditional Jack o Lantern in time for Halloween. This event is run by the Park Rangers in conjunction with Sing.Southport Comedy Festival (Southport)20 – 30 October Over 10 days, there are 40 comedians at 16 shows at 7 venues across Southport. Top TV names will grace the stage at the Southport Theatre, starting with Get Up Stand Up on Friday 21st. Other favourites appearing include Lee Nelson, Sarah Millican, and Andy Parsons, rounding off with the brilliant Ed Byrne on Sunday 30th. On Sunday 23 October we are doing our bit for charity with a special comedy bonanza featuring a star studded cast including Jason Manford, Justin Moorhouse and Rob Rouse which will raise money for Help for Heroes. For kids from 3 to 103 Steve Royle performs his family show at the Premier Bowl and Laser while grownups can experience the weird and wonderful comedy troupe Slaughterhouse Live, performing at the end of the pier. This is run in conjunction with the Park Rangers.Scarecrow Festival (Marine Gardens, Waterloo)29 October, 15:00 Come along to this family event and have a look at the scarecrows that have been made. There is an opportunity for you to enter your own scarecrow in this event run in conjunction with the Friends of Group.Planet Circus (North Park, Bootle)9 – 13 & 16 - 20 November Another chance to see the fantastic Planet Circus in North Park. Free Trees (Various Parks) Various dates and times The Park Rangers together with the Tree and Woodland Team will be giving away free trees to plant in your garden. This scheme is park of National Tree Week and runs annually.Christmas Cracker (Derby Park, Bootle) 7 December, 14:00Christmas crafts and music in the park. This is organised by the Park Rangers with the music provided by Sefton Opera. Christmas Fun (Various Parks) Various dates and times Come down to your local park and join in the Christmas activities organised by the Park Rangers.
