A warm welcome for the EUCO, joined once more by IwanLlewelyn-Jones as soloist, with director Matthias Wollong,First Concert Master of the Dresden Staatskapelle. SinceEUCO's last visit the orchestra has toured not less thanseven European countries, with concerts in Spain, Ireland,Holland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Turkey, and with SirJames Galway in Italy, where the orchestra has a residency in Forli. Otherdistinguished soloists who have appeared with EUCO during the yearinclude Elin Manahan Thomas, John Lill, Emma Johnson, Pieter Wispelwey,and Julian Lloyd Webber. In 2010 tours include South America with NatalieClein, the Baltic States and across Europe.

Pianist Chris Gilligan recentlymade his debut tour with CatrinFinch. His original compositionsfeatured on BBC Radio Wales,S4C, and ITV, and he was co-founder of the 2009 Welsh JazzAwards ‘best jazz band’ Little Fish.

Saxophonist Fraser Smith plays fora number of function bandsacross the UK, and his own FraserSmith Quintet played at last years’Brecon Jazz Festival, and appearsregularly on the Cardiff jazz scene.

A welcome return by Richard Durrant, one of the UK’s leading guitarvirtuosos, in his ground breaking Guitar Whisperer concert.

Programme includes Walton’s Five Bagatelles and other pieces on theclassical guitar, as well as a unique take on Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells,along with the ever popular Electric Counterpoint by Steve Reich, and somerevelatory transcriptions of Bach played on the “wrong” instruments. In thepast year Richard has played 60 solo concerts and was guest soloist withboth the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Grammy nominatedEmperor String Quartet.

Salomé, starring thetempestuous, Russian-bornactress Alla Nazimova, is ararely seen artwork of filmhistory adapted from thecontroversial Oscar Wildeplay with an abundance ofsumptuously fantasticvisuals.

Made in 1923, Saloméloosely follows the biblicalstory of King Herod and hisunbridled lust for his youngstepdaughter.

Charlie Barber's new score isperformed live by fourmusicians playing between 25-30 percussion instruments over adramatic pre-recorded backdrop of vocal settings of psalms sung inLatin and Hebrew.

Voskresenije is a choir of nine mixed voices, all of whom trained atthe St Petersburg Conservatoire and are soloists in their own right.Their conductor, Jurij Maruk, was previously conductor at theMariinskij Theatre.

Though their repertoire includes a few sometimes surprisingWestern European gems, most of the programme is Russian sacredmusic, as well as treasures from the folk music of Russia. Thisrepertoire, all of which is for unaccompanied voices, emphasisestheir thrilling and highly distinctive Russian vocal style.

Fiona Owen: Peace is Every Step - exploring the teaching andpractice of Thich Nhat Hanh

Thich Nhat Hanh is the well-known Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk,teacher, peace and human rights activist, poet, and founder of 'EngagedBuddhism'. His mindfulness teachings are 'dedicated to the work of innertransformation for the benefit of individuals and society' and are radical intheir simplicity. Romantic Reveries2010 marks the bicentenary of two geniuses of the keyboard, FredericChopin and Robert Schumann. Iwan Llewelyn-Jones returns to the UcheldreCentre with a series of four recitals in which he will perform some of theirbest loved piano works and uncover a few hidden gems. Accompany Iwanon his guided tour through the world of the Romantic musician andexperience the passion and drama of this unforgettable music.

Tonight’s opening recital includes Schumann’s dreamy Arabesque andsparkling Novelettes, together with Chopin’s Mazurkas, Waltzes, and thebreathtaking 4th Ballade. Also works by Mozart, Debussy, and Chabrier.

Further concerts in the series are on Saturday 6 February, Saturday 24 April, and Saturday 19 June 2010

Welcome to Seville! We hope to bring you a glimpse of the happenings inthe Almaviva household: the Count’s tireless pursuit of Susanna (soon to bemarried to Figaro), the housekeeper Marcellina’s equally tireless pursuit ofFigaro (later revealed to be her long lost son!), a teenage flirt calledCherubino (who is a girl, playing a boy dressed up as a girl…) and aCountess suffering a mid-life crisis together with - a gossip-mad priest anda nervous and incompetent lawyer.

The multi-faceted singers of Pocket Opera divide and share a multitude ofcharacters from this and many other operas between them, using minimalprops and costumes to create an evening of music and theatre in their ownstyle.

Leading opera voice coach Marian Bryfdir takes a new series of 5workshops beginning with finding your voice and singing in theoperatic chorus. No experience needed for this introductory day,but there will be an opportunity for solo singers to audition forlead roles in subsequent workshops.

Come and see if you have operability by working on excerpts fromdifferent operas as part of a chorus with members of Pocket Operaassisting. Course continues in 2010 on 23 January, 20 February,20 March and 11 April plus possibility of performing in the chorusof Swansea City Opera’s performance of the Pearl Fishers in theUcheldre Centre on Saturday 17 April 2010.

The Uchedre restaurant will be open from 6-7.30 pm for eveningmeals so please stay on to see a performance by Pocket Opera ofFigaro and Friends.

American singer-songwriter Cathryn Craig and accomplished Britishguitarist Brian Willoughby create an intimate atmosphere with songs aboutlife experience, coupled with amusing anecdotes.

Cathryn, from Nashville, has sung with The Righteous Brothers, ShelSilverstein, Jorma Kaukonnen. and Bobby Bare. Brian began hisprofessional career with Mary Hopkin in 1971, and has recorded andtoured with a range of artists, including Monty Python, Sweet’s BrianConnolly, Joe Brown, Jim Diamond, New World, and Roger Whittaker. Hewas lead guitarist with Strawbs for 25 years.
