Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 10, 2019

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” “Here I am, “I said, “send me!” — Isaiah 6:8 *********************************************************************** GOD’S SUMMONS Confronted with God’s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips,” he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus’ instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah answered, “Here I am, send me.” We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won’t lead to anything. What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? What will it take for you to bring to dock what is unimportant and to accept your call to be God’s messenger? ***********************************************************************

Dear Parishioner and Friends of St. Joseph, Now that we have begun the new year our parish Social Committee has met and are beginning to plan for our parish Patronal feast of St. Joseph. Since Saint Joseph’s Day, March 19th, falls this year on a Tuesday we have decided to have the Celebration on Sunday, March 10th, so that hopefully more people can join in our celebration. We take this opportunity to invite you after the religious festivities to join us at Riccardo’s By the Bridge for our Dinner Dance from 1p.m. to 6 p.m. Last year over 150 people attended and had a wonderful time enjoy-ing going out, dancing, eating and celebrating our wonderfully diverse and vibrant parish family life. Tickets are available for $75 per adult and $40 per child. As we have done in the past, we are also planning to put together our parish journal celebrating all of St. Jo-seph’s Parish Family. The journal will include Parish and Academy functions, such as Christmas, Easter, Communion, Confirmation and processions. You may want to consider sponsoring an ad in memory of a loved one or offering your own personal best wishes. We also will be soliciting local business sponsors as well. Attached please find flyers and other pages explaining in more detail all the events we are scheduling for St. Joseph’s Day. Please contact our parish office for more information or fill out the attached reservation forms and return them to our parish office as soon as possible. If you would like to donate a gift certificate or NEW items not used, to be raffled off at the dinner dance, please drop them off at the parish office by Monday, March 4, 2019. In closing, as always, a word of thanks for all that you do for our parish family. Looking forward to celebrating with all of you these wonderful festivities that bring us all together. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Rev. Vincent Miceli ***************************************************************************

************************************************************************
