Fifth Sunday of Lent

March 29, 2020 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! — Psalm 130:1 ********************************************************************** GIVE GLORY TO GOD On the Fifth Sunday of Lent, just before we begin to enter Holy Week, we are summoned to Bethany. If we had been friends of Mary, Lazarus, and Martha, and found out that Lazarus was gravely ill, we probably would have dropped everything to be with them. This was what was so surprising about the behavior of Jesus. Although he was their close friend, he chose to stay away, that God’s glory would be manifested. This is a persistent theme in John’s Gospel. Right to the very end, Jesus’ works were meant to give glory to the Father. As our Lenten journey reaches a crescendo, let us be mindful that, as people who have “put on Christ” in baptism, we are also called, by our attitudes and actions, to give glory to God. ***********************************************************************

Thinking of Remembering a Loved

One?

As you know, the sanctuary lamp burns near the tabernacle to remind us of Jesus' Presence among us in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. To remember the intention of a loved one, you may donate the bread and wine consecrated at Mass for one week or weekend. Or the Sanctuary Lamp (candle lit near the Tabernacle) for the week or weekend. Please call to the parish office for more information about how you can remember a loved one. ***************************************************** READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Then say the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory be to the Father. After the final station, this prayer, adapted from one composed by Saint Alphonsus, might be said: "O Jesus Christ, my Lord, with what great love you traveled the painful road which led to your death -- and how often have I abandoned you. But now I love you with my whole soul, and because I love you, I am sin-cerely sorry for having offended you. My Jesus, pardon me, and permit me to accompany you on this journey. You died for love of me, and it is my wish, O my dear-est Redeemer, to be willing to die for love of you. O my beloved Jesus, in your love I wish to live, and in your love I wish to die. Amen."

PRAYER TO MAKE A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacra-mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen. *****

***************************************************************

O Great St. Rocco, deliver us, we beseech thee,

from the scourges of God; through thy intercession,

preserve our bodies from contagious diseases, and our souls from the contagion of sin.

Obtain for us salubrious air; but, above all, purity of heart.

Assist us to make good use of health, to bear suffering with patience;

and, after thy example,

to live in the practice of penance and charity, that we may one day enjoy the happiness

which thou has merited by thy virtues.

The Divine Mercy Prayer Group is

suspending its weekly

meetings until further

notice.
