Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today, the Gospel shows how puzzled Jesus' compatriots were when in his presence: This man is the son of Jo-seph, isn't he? We know his father and mother. How can he say that he has come from heaven? (Jn 6:42). The life of Jesus amongst his own people had been so normal that, when He began with the proclamation of the Kingdom, those who knew him were shocked at what He was saying. What Father was Jesus referring to, whom nobody had ever seen before? Which could be that living bread coming from heaven that those who eat of it would live forever? He denied it was the manna in the desert because those who ate it also died. «The bread I shall give is my flesh and I will give it for the life of the world» (Jn 6:51). Could his flesh be an aliment for us? The baffling doubts Jesus was spreading amongst the Jews could also embarrass us should we not be able to answer a question basic for our Christian life: Who is Jesus? I do want to express to all of you my gratitude for the past few months so many of you have spent countless hours volunteer time helping to put together our parish festival and make it an overwhelm-ing success. I have seen the coop-eration of so many of our parish-ioners beginning with the Pastoral council who spent many weeks of planning and organizing, to our parish staff who handled sales, ordering and so many details, the people who donated and who have worked really hard to make sure the booths and games were taken care of and to all of you for selling raffle tickets, buying t-shirts, hats, spreading the word about our fes-tival. I especially want to thank all
the sponsors from in and out of the parish whose support was crucial to our success.

NOVENA FOR THE LEGAL
PROTECTION OF HUMAN LIFE
The U.S. bishops are urging all people
of good will to pray that a change in the U.S. Supreme Court may move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life.
From Friday, August 3, 2018 to Fri-day, September 28, 2018, the weekly Call to Prayer will be adapted as a nine-week Novena for the Legal Pro-tection of Human Life. In addition to the current invitation to fast on Fridays, participants are encouraged to pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be for the intention of the novena.

SUNDAY : NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 12, 2018
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas:
Hoy, el Evangelio presenta el descon-
cierto en el que los connacionales de Jesús vivían en su presencia: «¿No es
éste Jesús, hijo de José, cuyo padre y madre conocemos? ¿Cómo puede
decir ahora: He bajado del cielo?» (Jn
6,42). La vida de Jesús entre los su-yos había sido tan normal que, el co-
menzar la proclamación del Reino, quienes le conocían se escandalizaban
de lo que entonces les decía. ¿De qué Padre les hablaba Jesús, que
nadie había visto? ¿Quién era este pan bajado del cielo que quienes lo
comen vivirán para siempre? Él nega-
ba que fuera el maná del desierto porque, quienes lo comieran, morir-
ían. «El pan que yo (...) voy a dar, es mi carne por la vida del mundo» (Jn
6,51). ¿Su carne podía ser un alimen-to para nosotros? El desconcierto que
sembraba Jesús entre los judíos podía extenderse entre nosotros si no res-
pondemos a una pregunta central
para nuestra vida cristiana: ¿Quién es Jesús?
Quiero expresar a todos ustedes mi gratitud por los últimos meses por pasar incontables horas y tiempo de voluntariado ayudando a preparar nuestro Festival Pa-rroquial y hacer que fuera un gran éxito. He visto la coopera-ción de muchos de nuestros feli-greses comenzando con el Conse-jo Pastoral que pasó muchas se-manas planeando y organizando, a nuestro personal parroquial que manejó las ventas, y orde-nando tantos detalles, las perso-nas que donaron dinero y que han trabajado muy duro para asegurarse de que todos fueran atendidos y a todos ustedes por la venta de boletos de la rifa, la compra de camisetas, gorras, y por invitar a todos a nuestro Fes-tival. Quiero agradecer especial-mente a todos los patrocinadores de dentro y fuera de la parroquia cuyo apoyo fue crucial para nues-tro éxito.

Las inscripciones para los niños de la primera comunión serán el do-
mingo después de las misas, los martes y los miércoles en la oficina
parroquial con Cathy Hernandez.
Los requisitos están en el pizarrón localizado en la entrada de la
iglesia.

Los obispos de los Estados Unidos
están instando a todas las personas de
buena voluntad a oren para que haya
un cambio en la Corte Suprema de los
Estados Unidos. Y que lleve a nuestra
nación al día en cada ser humano sea
protegido por la ley y acogido.
Desde el viernes 3 de agosto de 2018
hasta el viernes 28 de septiembre de
2018, el llamado a la oración semanal
se adaptará como una Novena de nueve
semanas para la Protección Legal de la
Vida Humana. Además de la invitación
actual para ayunar los viernes, se anima
a los participantes a rezar un Padre
Nuestro, Avemaría y Gloria por la
intención de la novena.
