The Church teaches the process of de-veloping vaccines should always re-spect the human dignity of all persons, including the unborn. Miracles are seldom as obvious as the multiplication of loaves and fishes. Many years ago, I overheard a family conversation in a restaurant at the end of a long holiday weekend. At the reg-ister was one of those collection jars saying, “For just fifty cents a day you can feed a child.” The little girl asked her folks about it and they explained it. She said, “I have money left from my weekend, could I put it in the jar?” The parents said yes and let her go on the adventure for herself. She came back and sat down, and they chatted some more. She said, “If fifty cents feeds a child for a day, then I was able to feed one for three days, because I had $1.50 left from the weekend.” When we fol-low this child’s example and go be-yond the minimum, when we give all we can, we know we are doing the right thing, and we have understood the test that Jesus posed to Philip so long ago.

Décimo 7to domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Los milagros rara vez son tan evidentes como la multiplica-ción de los panes y los peces. Hace muchos años, cuando terminaba un fin de semana festivo, por casualidad escuché una conversación familiar en un restaurante. En la caja re-gistradora había una de esas alcancías con un letrero que decía: “Con cincuenta centavos al día puedes alimentar a un niño”. Una pequeña niña les preguntó a sus padres y ellos le explicaron. Ella dijo: “Me quedó algo de mi dinero que tuve para gastar este fin de semana, ¿puedo ponerlo en la alcan-cía?” Los padres dijeron que sí y ella misma puso el dinero dentro de la alcancía y luego fue a sentarse a la mesa con ellos y siguieron charlando. Ella les dijo: “Si cincuenta cen-tavos sirven para alimentar a un niño al día, entonces pude alimentar a uno por tres días, por que me quedaban $1.50 de mi dinero”. Al seguir el ejemplo de esta niña y vamos más allá de lo mínimo, cuando damos todo lo que podemos, sabemos que estamos haciendo lo correcto, y hemos com-prendido la prueba que Jesús le hizo a Felipe hace mucho tiempo.

Niños: ¿Compartes con otros lo que tienes?
Jóvenes: La generosidad es la clave del Evangelio de hoy. ¿Qué tienes que deberías compartir con otros? Piensa en lo que posees, tus talentos y tu tiempo. ¿Cómo puedes usarlos para el bien de otros?
Adultos: ¿De qué manera cubre las necesidades de otros que tienen poco o nada?
¿ Cuál es la posición de la Iglesia Católica con respecto a las vacunas en general?
La Iglesia enseña que el proceso de desarrollo de vacunas siempre debe respetar la dignidad humana de todas las personas, incluidos los no nacidos. Evitar la vacunación conlleva consecuencias peligrosas y potencialmente mor-tales para los más vulnerables de la sociedad. La Iglesia Católica apoya firmemente la vacunación y considera que los católicos tienen el deber de vacunarse, no solo por el bien de su propia salud, sino también por solidaridad con los demás, especialmente con los más vulnerables. FEAST OF FAITH The Preface Dialogue “Lift up your hearts.” “We lift them up to the Lord.” “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.” “It is right to give him thanks and praise.” With this ancient dialogue we enter the Eucharistic Prayer, the heart of the Mass. These venerable words have been part of the Christian liturgy almost from the beginning—by the time of Hippolytus of Rome (c. 215) they were already fixed in the liturgy. Several times during the Mass the priest has invited us to pray. There is something different here. We are invited to be “lifted up,” to ascend, to climb the Lord’s mountain, as it were, to go to a new place for this most solemn part of the Mass. And we are invited to a new frame of mind, a sense of joy, of fo-cused dedication: our hearts must not be cast down, but lifted up, and lifted to the Lord. Why? FIESTA DE LA FE De la epíclesis a la narración La narración es una parte de la Plegaria Eucarística y comienza después de la epícle-sis, es decir, quien preside la Eucaristía (y quien concelebra, si es el caso), invocan el poder del Espíritu Santo para que consagre los dones que la Iglesia ha ofrecido; que se conviertan en el cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo. El signo visible que acompaña este momento es la imposición de manos sobre los dones. A partir de esta invocación, comienza la narra-ción de la Institución en que Nuestro Señor Jesucristo nos deja la Eucaristía en el contex-to de una comida. Esta narración es esencial a la fe cristiana porque describe el dinamismo de su Tradición de una forma pura y fiel. Pa-blo nos lo recuerda en la primera carta a los corintios: “Yo he recibido del Señor lo que a mi vez les he transmitido” (23). Así pues, el recuerdo de la institución eucarística en el contexto de una comida, no sólo era una his-toria bonita para recordar, sino un precepto del mismo Jesús que identificará a la comuni-dad con una historia nueva, una nueva Pas-cua, un nuevo pan, una Nueva Alianza que se renueva cada vez que se come de este pan y se bebe de este cáliz. THE HAND OF THE LORD Today’s message could be summed up in psalm 145, “The hand of the Lord feeds us, he answers all our needs.” Each reading shows how carefully God feeds and cares for us, in an up-close and personal fashion. Elisha fed the crowd from twenty barley loaves. Jesus blessed a few loaves and thousands were fed. Perhaps this seems far-fetched, but we read stories in the news about chefs taking the leftovers from fancy restaurants and feeding many people in a soup kitchen. As a schoolgirl, one of my favorite sto-ries was “Stone Soup,” the tale of a couple of war-weary soldiers con-vincing the people of a frightened and starving little country village to bring out their meager supplies and share them to make a marvelous soup to feed the town. The second reading asks us to “Consider well our call.” How do we respond to those in need around us?
¿MILAGRO O MAGIA? Puede ser fácil decir simplemente “Oh sí, esta es la historia del mila-gro de la multiplicación de los panes y los peces, cuando todos decidieron compartir los pedazos de comida que tenían”. Pero ¿qué tanto se trata de alimentar a las multitudes? Jesús le preguntó a Felipe en dónde po-drían comprar suficiente comida para que todos comieran. Le hizo esta pregunta para ponerlo a prueba, porque sabía que era lo que iba a hacer. Debió haber sido muy difícil confiar en Jesús, especialmente cuando los discípulos a menudo no lo entendían. Este año también ha sido un reto para nosotros también, confiar que Dios proveerá, y tam-bién un reto para nosotros para pedir ayuda. En la Regla de san Benito hay un capítulo llamado “La asigna-ción de tareas imposibles”. En esen-cia dice que cuando el superior de la comunidad te dice que hagas algo imposible, está bien que vayas a hablar con él acerca de eso, pero al final puede que te pidan que hagas esa tarea. ¿En qué situaciones esta-mos llamados a confiar? ¿Cuándo se nos piden que actuemos con fe o que hagamos una tarea imposible?
