GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
August 2, 2020 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
It’s easier to see the physical hungers and thirsts. We try to respond to these as best we can. Much more needs to be done. With all that God’s earth can provide, nobody ought to face sleep at night with a belly that’s empty. It’s sinful. It’s unjust. But isn’t all hunger unjust? It doesn’t need to be, and it should not be. Just as no one ought to be physically hungry and thirsty, there is really no need to be emotionally or spiritually deficient either. If we have more privileges at our fingertips, it is easier to try to satisfy our emotional and spiritual hungers and thirst by acting on impulse or self-indulgence, carelessly following passions, or by seeking self-destructive ways to dull the ache of emptiness.
Folks need to know where to look for nourishment and need the right friends to help them find it. We may not think that we have enough to respond to and to satisfy all of the needs, but we do. It doesn’t take much. Five loaves and two fish provided for a huge crowd. With God, all things are possible. Our faith provides the direction for where God’s chil-dren must go to find the nourishment they seek. It also tells us how to structure life so that justice and equity can be a reality for all. It also tells us how to respond to pain, sinfulness, and confusion. Come to the water and then help another get there. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS ©LPi
CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
PART ONE: THE PROFESSION OF FAITH
Section Two: THE CREEDS Chapter One:
I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER
Article One: “I believe in God the Father
Almighty, creator of heaven and earth”
Paragraph 4: THE CREATOR
II. CREATION - WORK OF THE HOLY TRINITY
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the
earth":128 three things are affirmed in these first words
of Scripture: the eternal God gave a beginning to all that
exists outside of himself; he alone is Creator (the verb
"create" - Hebrew bara - always has God for its subject).
the totality of what exists (expressed by the formula "the
heavens and the earth") depends on the One who gives it
being.
"In the beginning was the Word. . . and the Word was
God. . . all things were made through him, and without
him was not anything made that was made."129 The New
Testament reveals that God created everything by the
eternal Word, his beloved Son. In him "all things were
created, in heaven and on earth.. . all things were created
through him and for him. He is before all things, and in
him all things hold together."130 The Church's faith
likewise confesses the creative action of the Holy Spirit,
the "giver of life", "the Creator Spirit" (Veni, Creator
Spiritus), the "source of every good".131
Catechism of the Catholic Church, §§ 290-291.
Baptism and Marriage must be scheduled through the parish office. Preparation for marriage must begin at least 1 year prior to your wedding day. Attendance at both Mass and pre-marriage classes is required. Regular attendance at religious education classes and Sunday Mass is required for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Due to the pandemic, however, our classes and gatherings have been cancelled until further notice. Interested new candidates may contact the Church office to be put on a list of interest.
LITURGICAL EVENTS & NEWS
A Message from Most Rev. Mark
Brennan, Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston
DISPENSATION FROM THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS
While no member of the Faithful is bound to attend Mass where
impossibility arises, West Virginia borders a number of dioceses
in which Masses are still being publicly celebrated, and many of
our Faithful are easily able to attend those Masses. Owing to the
grave nature of the current public health crisis, and not wishing
that an of our flock be compelled to place themselves unneces-
sarily at risk, I hereby dispense all those who reside within the
territory of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston from their obli-
gation to attend Mass. The intention of this dispensation, along
with the suspension of public liturgies in the Diocese, is to en-
courage the Faithful to practice “social distancing” and “self-
quarantine” to the extent that their state of life permits, by which
we hope to contribute to the containment and end of the current
pandemic.

LA ECONOMÍA SACRAMENTAL
CAPÍTULO PRIMERO: EL MISTERIO
PASCUAL EN EL TIEMPO DE LA IGLESIA
ARTÍCULO 2: EL MISTERIO PASCUAL
EN LOS SACRAMENTOS DE LA IGLESIA
IV.
[...] ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!" (Ap 22,17.20).
