(A schedule of the days and times is on page 3.) Quite simply, Holy Week is the most important week of the year for followers of Jesus Christ. If you are in Greenville, I hope you will join us on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and at the Easter Vigil. If you are out of town, I hope you will find another place to offer your praise and thanksgiving. Second, I want to offer an update on various happenings since we had a series of parish wide listening sessions last spring. We invited all the people of St. Peter’s to participate in one of 18 listening sessions. One hundred fifty-four parishioners attended one of these gatherings to talk about our ministries, facilities, and campus. From these gatherings the vestry received 46 pages of notes which have been distilled into a lengthy spreadsheet of comments and suggestions. I provided a birds-eye view of these results last May during a well-attended Sunday School forum. (A digital copy of the slides from that presentation are still on our web site: www.stpetersgreenville.org under the quick links at the bottom of the page.) The suggestions we received from these listening sessions could be sorted into two groups— functional items and facility/campus items. The vestry has reviewed all of the items from these lists. Among the items that could be implemented in a relatively short timeframe, the leaders of St. Peter’s have already enacted some of these which were deemed to be a priority. For example, we have added a women’s Bible study on Monday nights and a children’s choir. Our Outreach Advocates have added a new mission which is easily “doable” for all of our parishioners (see the 1 st item in their column on page 4). We are also expanding other opportunities for en- gagement in worship, formation, pastoral care, and fellowship. The facility/campus suggestions we received were distilled into a short list of important, urgent priorities which the vestry forwarded to a Feasibility Study Committee. This committee includes the following volunteers: Jill Fletcher, Dexter Goodwin, Bill Hawkins, Kauffman, Erin Ryan, Ken Shabel, Beck Sullivan, Hugh Yochum, and Tom Priddy (Vestry Liaison). The Feasibility Study Committee conducted a comprehensive search for an architectural firm to provide us with a potential solution to these needs. Following the committee’s review of qualifica- tions and proposals from four firms, they recommended Craig Gaulden Davis of Greenville. The vestry has hired Craig, Gaulden, Davis and they have begun their work. Once a solution—or set of solutions—has been developed, it will be shared with the full congre- gation. The goal of Phase 1 was listening broadly to your comments and suggestions about a wide range of challenges and opportunities we face. The goal of Phase 2 is also listening! We want your feedback to a professionally developed plan for addressing the most important, urgent facility and campus needs at St. Peter’s. Once we re- ceive a proposed solution from Craig Gaulden Davis, you can expect an invitation to participate in the feedback process just like you received last Spring. Thank you for your participation in the ministry and common life of St. Peter’s. I look forward to seeing you in the next few weeks as we transition from Lent to Eastertide! God bless you,

Dear People of St. Peters,

First, I want to extend a personal invitation for you to participate in worship during the days of Ho-ly Week.

(A digital copy of the slides from that presentation are still on our web site: www.stpetersgreenville.org under the quick links at the bottom of the page.)

The suggestions we received from these listening sessions could be sorted into two groups—functional items and facility/campus items.

Our Outreach Advocates have added a new mission which is easily “doable” for all of our parishioners (see the 1

st item in their column on page 4). We are also expanding other opportunities for en-

gagement in worship, formation, pastoral care, and fellowship.

Following the committee’s review of qualifica-tions and proposals from four firms, they recommended Craig Gaulden Davis of Greenville. The vestry has hired Craig, Gaulden, Davis and they have begun their work.

Once a solution—or set of solutions—has been developed, it will be shared with the full congre-gation. The goal of Phase 1 was listening broadly to your comments and suggestions about a wide range of challenges and opportunities we face.

The goal of Phase 2 is also listening! We want your feedback to a professionally developed plan for addressing the most important, urgent facility and campus needs at St. Peter’s. Once we re-ceive a proposed solution from Craig Gaulden Davis, you can expect an invitation to participate in the feedback process just like you received last Spring.

Thank you for your participation in the ministry and common life of St. Peter’s. I look forward to seeing you in the next few weeks as we transition from Lent to Eastertide!

God bless you,

New Faces at St. Peter’s

Shawn Dunham & Brock Vaughn

22 Tomek Way

Greenville, SC 29615

804-475-1098 (Brock)

804-519-6694 (Shawn)

Shawn and Brock moved from Richmond to Greenville about a year ago. Brock’s mother and father grew up near Greenville and raised their family here. Shawn and Brock describe this move as a “preretirement” move. They both agreed that the hardest part of leaving Richmond was leaving Christ Episcopal Church which they were instrumental in founding. They met at Christ Episcopal and were the first couple to be married in the new church. They chose St. Peter’s as their church home because they love the inclusiveness, the biblical based liturgy, Father Furman and the offering of challenges outside of their comfort zone. Brock owns his own business and is a Training Consultant for banks teaching systems, new software and networking. He has two daughters, who live in Indianapolis and Philadelphia. Shawn works for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond where she is Project Manager in information technology. In their free time they enjoy biking on the Swamp Rabbit Trail and walking their three year old Whippet. Shawn and Brock love eating out at fine restaurants, so they must be “having a ball” exploring Greenville. Please welcome this outgoing couple to St. Peter’s. They usually attend the 10:30 a.m. service.

Easter Sunday is on April 21st. The 20th, Holy Saturday, would normally be Fellowship date. The annual Parish Picnic

is scheduled for the following weekend. Thus, we are not going to have Fellowship in April. We will resume again in May when

Tom and Peggy Hemans will be our hosts.

Beloved is Where We Begin by Jan Richardson

If you would enter into the wilderness, do not begin without a blessing.

Do not leave without hearing who you are: Beloved, named by the One who has traveled this path before you.

Do not go without letting it echo in your ears, and if you find it is hard to let it into your heart, do not despair. That is what this journey is for.

I cannot promise this blessing will free you from danger, from fear, from hunger or thirst, from the scorching of sun or the fall of the night.

But I can tell you that on this path there will be help.

I can tell you that on this way there will be rest.

I can tell you that you will know the strange graces that come to our aid only on a road such as this, that fly to meet us bearing comfort and strength, that come alongside us for no other cause than to lean themselves toward our ear and with their curious insistence whisper our name:

Beloved. Beloved. Beloved.

The journey through Lent into Easter is a journey with

Jesus. This Lent, St. Peter’s--along with other parish-

es throughout the Episcopal Church--are walking with

Jesus in his Way of Love. During the homilies at each

of these Wednesday liturgies, Fr. Furman will offer

reflections on the 7 marks of following in the way of

Jesus, the way of love. These 7 touchstones comprise

a rule of life that Christians have been following for

2000 years. Join us for worship this Lent and discover

the action verbs involved in a Jesus-centered life:

Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, and Rest.

Outreach Advocates Present:

Honoring and Remembering Mothers with Mother's Day Toiletry Drive

St. Peter's Outreach Advocates have organized a toiletry drive

to provide needed items to women at Safe Harbor Women's Shelter. Please consider honoring your mother or other special woman in your life by donating a bag of supplies. Bags, and a list of needed items to put in them, will be available after Sun-day services on April 28 and May 5. A Mother's Day card for you to send to the woman you are honoring with your donation will be included. Thank you in advance for brightening the day for a woman at Safe Harbor. For more information on the drive, please speak to any Outreach Advocates member or email Li-sa Wakely at [email protected]. For more information on Safe Harbor and how you can help, please visit the website at https://safeharborsc.org/.

United Ministries Food Items St. Peter's Outreach Advocates would like to thank the parish for your generous contributions to the food pantry at United Ministries and for the personal hygiene items for Place of Hope. The food pantry is always in need of canned meat, tuna, stew, green beans and powdered milk. Place of Hope is in par-ticular need of travel size shower gel. These items can be placed in the wagon or the bins outside Stockstill Hall. For more information, please contact Lauren Hill at [email protected] or 864-385-0869. Thank you!

April 7th is Outreach Sunday! Have you read about Ronald McDonald House, Feed Thy Neighbor, Habitat for Humanity or other outreach events and wondered how to get involved? Did you think Laundry Love meant you actually did stranger's laundry? Mark your calen-dars now, and remember to join the St. Peter's Outreach Advo-cates Committee for an information fair after the 10:30 service on Sunday, April 7 in Stockstill Hall. We have opportunities for everyone, from a couple of hours cook-ing breakfast for hungry people to hosting homeless families for an evening to helping people get their laundry done. Look for the Outreach Ministries Brochure in the pews and attached to the Blue Sheet on April 7. Several committee members will also be available between services to answer questions. If you just can't wait to learn more about Outreach at St. Peter's visit the website: http://www.stpetersgreenville.com/outreach/.

Singing Rooster Coffee Sale Donation We raised an amazing $609 at the Holiday Coffee Sale! Thank you so very much for your support!

The Outreach Committee decided to donate the money to Part-ners in Agriculture, a non-profit started by fellow Greenvillians, to address malnutrition in the Central Plateau of Haiti. Their programs have grown to promote economic sustainability and address food insecurity with their vocational school and agricultural training where families are expected to give back seeds from their first harvest or, if given a goat, the first kid from their doe. For more info, please visit www.partnersinag.org.

Coming Soon – Spring Coffee Sale For those of you interested in more Singing Rooster, the Spring Coffee Sale is coming soon. We will start taking orders at the Parish Picnic on April 28

Lenten Labyrinth Walk

Touchstone: Turn Pause, listen, & choose to follow Jesus Touchstone: Pray Dwell intentionally with God each day “To turn, turn will be our delight ‘Til by turning, turning, we come ‘round right.”

Lyrics from Simple Gifts, a Shaker Hymn composed by Joseph Bracketts in 1848. Please join us April 7 @ 4pm to walk the turns of our labyrinth while holding prayer. No experience necessary. Labyrinth located behind the sanctuary. (Weather permitting.)

Iter Vitae, St. Peter’s Labyrinth Ministry

Since there is no Holy Hike in April we invite you to participate in a project that will support the vision of the Holy Hikes ministry to care for God’s creation with our presence and sup-port. Upstate Forever is hosting a field work day partnered with Trout Unlimited to remove invasive exotic plants from a protected piece of property owned by Naturaland Trust and placed under easement with Upstate Forever. We will be re-moving Japanese honeysuckle and Chinese privet, and will also do some light trash pick up. We would love for you to join us on April 6th from 9:00 a.m. until noon and aid in the clean up while enjoying this pristine and beautiful area, replete with waterfalls. Please sign up on the website https://www.upstateforever.org/events/18/volunteer-work-day-mountain-bridge-wilderness-area or contact Laura Hawkins at [email protected] or 864-608-7453.

Special program: St. Peter's Men's Group

The Men of St. Peter's will hold its next breakfast meeting on Saturday, April 13, as it ordinarily does every second Sat-urday of the month. But this meeting will be anything but ordi-nary. In addition to serving breakfast, the group will hear a presentation from Sarah Holt, Greenville's Director of Planning and Zoning. With a degree in environmental design and bache-lor of landscape architecture, she has worked in public and pri-vate sectors in Colorado and New Mexico before coming to Greenville. All men, church members and visitors, are welcome to attend. The group meets every month in Stockstill Hall for fellowship and to handle small tasks around the church. For information, email Tom Priddy at [email protected]. Newcomers: Please let us know if you are coming so we can be sure to prepare enough food.

SPY NEWS When the people of St. Peter’s respond to the query at bap-tism, “Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ?” with an affirmative “We Will!”, they make sure to follow through! I am so encour-aged by the ways in which the parish supports and cheers the youth of St. Peter’s to experience the joy of the Christian faith. Through your giving, your bringing meals, your prayers, your words, your witness and your trust in these young people, you are supporting them so much! You all are making the vibrant ministry to, by and for young people possible, and I am very thankful.

Just this month alone, our youth have packed care packages for college students and backpacks for hungry children. They have served, cleaned, and decorated for an incredible Pancake Supper. 8 of our high schoolers spent a full weekend serving others in the name of Christ at our Diocesan Happening week-end. And most recently, they welcomed youth and adults from St. Peter’s and St. Giles Presbyterian to join them in learning about poverty and its effects on their classmates and neighbors through a Poverty Simulation.

None of these things would be possible without the support of this congregation behind them- encouraging and enabling them to be such a strong part of the ministry of St. Peter’s. And this summer, a team of 10 will be setting forth in mission to Ecua-dor, to partner with Episcopalians in Quito and around to share the love of God with the people of that community. You all are also making that possible! We put more than 50 envelopes in the narthex for you all to support our team monetarily and by prayer- almost all were taken the first day! There are still a few available if you want to get in on this opportunity. I especially hope you will continue to support us in your prayers and words of encouragement. Together, we are embracing all people through Christ’s love in this world, and the youth are finding their space as part of this church, this one body of transfor-mation.

On behalf of the youth, I thank you for answering that question so affirmatively and in so many ways.

In God’s Peace,

Laura

A walk through the church, the Episcopal History: Come and eavesdrop on a conversation between Hayne Cope and Ja-son Cheek as they explore the history of the Episcopal church. You are welcome to sit back and listen or actively engage as they follow a chronological timeline and discuss how the growth of the Episcopal church intersects history and the Bible. If you join them you can be sure you will be intrigued and or entertained. All are welcome and you can come and go any Sunday. They plan to follow a schedule of topics but make no promises. If something peaks their inter-est they will likely take a detour.
