Mme Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, has marked her personal commitment to support the SFSCMFCO candidacy to host the 25th ICOMS in 2021. She has signed a support letter and commits the City of Paris to:

• Offer complimentary use of the city’s 180 billboards.• Open the doors of the prestigious reception rooms of the City Hall

to welcome your ICOMS delegates in one of the most beautiful examples of Parisian architecture.

In addition, the City of Paris, in collaboration with Viparis, will offer a full package that will give ICOMS maximum visibility and welcome to delegates across the city: the Welcome Pack.

The Welcome Pack is an integrated information, guidance and transport service for ICOMS delegates and partners to reach the World Congress venue. It will be offered free of charge for the 25th ICOMS. The Welcome Pack is implemented at airports, in some railway stations and at the venue. It has 4 main components: Greet and inform – Transport – Guide – Welcome.

A leading tourist destination The Paris Region is the world’s leading tourist destination.Visits to monuments and museums, strolls through the city’s streets and cruises on the Seine: Paris’s illustrious heritage is an everyday, everywhere experience. World capital of fashion, shopping and dining, Paris is always on the move.

Museums: Louvre, Orsay, Rodin, Quai Branly…

Shopping: Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, Bon Marché…

Famous Masterpieces: Nymphea, Mona Lisa, Vénus de Milo…

Famous restaurants: La Tour d’Argent, Fouquet’s, l’Arpège…

Extraordinary placesFor many visitors, Paris is a museum city. Although the number of museums is considerable, most of the buildings that line the streets are – contrary to appearances! – Parisians homes. The city’s superb architectural heritage, comprising some 1,800 listed buildings, is such that visitors are easily mistaken as to a building’s function, particularly as this legacy is constantly growing, getting a makeover and diversifying.

Paris is also one of the most enjoyable places to live and work. 75% of its surface comprises parks, wooded areas, vast forests, and rural areas. Local authorities are committed to putting the necessary measures in place to control urbanization, pollution and nuisances, and to protect the landscape. Visitors can also leave the city and head for the Palace of Versailles or enjoy the parades at Disneyland® Resort Paris.

Paris knows that a city needs more than outstanding historical and cultural heritage to make it an attractive place to live.

Fine dining, shopping and entertainment are an integral part of the city’s art de vivre. The French capital offers 16,000 shops, 208 theatres and 83 cinemas – the biggest choice in the world. Prominent figures from the worlds of art, culture, fashion, design and cuisine come together in the streets of Paris. Once or twice a week, shops and museums stay open until late in the evening, and when night falls and dinner has been savored, the bars, cabarets, discotheques, auditoriums and concert halls take the spotlight.

The global capital of gastronomy, Paris has more than 10,000 bars and restaurants, ranging from the traditional “brasserie” to the most exotic cuisine. Many restaurants also have meeting rooms, so business and gastronomic pleasure can be combined. On the menu: Michelin star restaurants with top-class chefs, the new “fooding” stars who mix flavours from around the world with traditional cuisine, and small local restaurants offering innovative menus. According to the UK’s Restaurant magazine, 9 of the world’s 100 best restaurants are in Paris.

Charles de Gaulle airport (in the North) with its 7 terminals accepts all airlines and low-cost companies; there is an annual passenger flow of over 65 million people (more than the French population in all). This airport has direct shuttles to the Palais des Congrès de Paris, the anticipated congress site.

Orly airport in the South of Paris is France’s premier airport: built in the 1950s’, it still is the favourite airport of the French people; domestic flights use this airport as well as low-cost companies and airlines from southern European countries.

Shuttles from the airports and express rail (one airport is located 15 kilometres south of Paris - Orly, the other one is 32 kilometres-North) are convenient and cheap (less than 10 €). Direct bus link the airport to Paris; departure every 30 minutes (27 € roundtrip). Trains depart both ways every 5 minutes enabling the flow of passengers, tourists and convention participants to reach the city in a maximum of 30 minutes. There are also 6 train stations in Paris. The city can be reached by High Speed Trains (“TGV” in French) from most major European cities. 16 Eurostar

roundtrip per day link the French Capital to London and 28 Thalys to Brussels and Amsterdam. Barcelona has just been linked in 2013 and Madrid, Berlin and Milan will also be linked by TGV before the year 2019.

The 25th ICOMS will benefit from an «official carrier» agreement with the national airline Air France/KLM and its Sky Team Global alliance as well as the French rail company SNCF.

This will ensure the 25th ICOMS delegates the best possible transport rates and easy on-line registration (both Air France and SNCF are engaged in disability support and CO² compensation programmes).

Paris two international airports Roissy CDG and Orly are the HUB to 159 International Airline Companies making access from all over the world very easy.

Paris is also a city where any place is close! Convention centre and hotels are very close to each other; therefore a shuttle system from hotels to the venue is not necessary. Everything is within Paris « intra-muros » and, if needed, public transportation is easily accessible.

The easy and practical Paris underground system or local bus and Trams crosses the city from North to South and West to East. With a special rate “Paris Visite Pass” in hands, you may use it any time, as many times as you want.

Freedom of Travel & Circulation France does not impose any official entry restrictions on persons entering the country.

Today Paris hosts a variety of communities from the whole world and all languages are represented. Paris is not only the siege of UNESCO, and many other NGO’s, but also a pluri-cultural city accommodating all religions and sensitivities. France has the largest number of immigrants in Europe.

MCI France, the PCO that will be assisting with the organisation of the congress proposes an on-line module attached to the congress website which will allow participants requiring a visa do edit themselves a document justifying of their participation to the congress to present to the French authorities (French Consulates).

Of very simple use, this module requires to fill-in a number of personal information:

• Name, Surname• Date and place of birth • Nationality and passport number

The module then automatically generates a letter in PDF format using a predetermined template where the personal information is included and sends it to the participant on its email address.

Climate Automn (21 September-21 December) When you see the avenues and parks take on their autumn reflections, and the soft light of the street lamps sets aglow the carpet of fallen leaves, it’s an inspiring sight. The days may be getting shorter, but the colours are blooming. This is not only the time to return to school, but also a renewal of culture. Autumn has its own festival and the major trade fairs draw the crowds. Towards the end of November, Paris already sparkles with Christmas decorations.
