Counselor’s Corner

Hey Burks Parents!!!:)

October is Respect Month at Burks! I have been visiting classrooms teaching students about what

it means to be respectful.

Respect means:

•  Treating others they way that you would want to be treated

•  . Using good manners •  Being considerate of others feelings •  Being tolerant and accepting of others

differences •  Dealing peacefully with anger, insults or

disappointments

Help us by reviewing the definitions of Respect with your child. For activities and ideas of how you can incorporate character lessons at home

Burks Healthy Zone

Did You Know?

Diet and Exercise may not be the only keys to maintaining a healthy weight. Researchers

suggest that sleep may play a role in maintaining a healthy body weight. Overeating

at night, as well as alterations in the hormones that control hunger are caused by a lack of sleep. It is recommended that adults get 7 to 9 hours of sleep, while children

should get between 8.5 to 14 hours of sleep depending on their age.

As your family time becomes hectic trying to balance work and school schedules, make sure to set some time aside to be physically active.

Check out your local parks and recreation, YMCA, local sports leagues and churches for

fun fitness activities to participate in.

Love to Paint? Love Pumpkins?

Join the Library for the Annual Pumpkin Character Contest!

$1.00 gets you a small pumpkin and a spot

in the Pumpkin Character Patch. Money needs to be turned in to Mrs. Hinkebein by October 12th. Be creative and decorate your pumpkin as your favorite storybook

character. All decorated pumpkins must be delivered to Mrs. Hinkebein by October 16th. Judging will take place October 29th. For more information contact Mrs. Hinkebein,

Library Media Specialist. Specific rules will be posted in the Library.

Burks CHAMPS Ask your child about our

school-wide behavior expectations! There are specific expectations for

3- Desarrollando progreso 4- Alto progreso
