• Dogs must remain in the places where they are authorized at all times.
• Dogs must be kept on a leash and under surveillance at all times.
• The person in charge of the dog must pick up the animal’s excrement without delay.
• Barking or howling dogs as well as dogs affecting the tranquility and safety of other visitors are not allowed.
*Individuals who fail to comply with any of the rules stated above may be required to leave the area and/or issued a statement of offence, where appropriate.

WELCOME TO THE PARK
THE PILEATED WOODPECKER,THE PARK’S ANIMAL EMBLEM Champion percussionist of our forests, the pileated woodpecker rapidly hammers beak blows on tree barks to proclaim its territory. It nests in a generally rectangular or oval cavity which it digs into a stub or snag or a living tree. Several species, including the Eastern screech owl and the Northern saw-whet owl, use these cavities produced by the pileated woodpecker.

WATERCRAFT RENTAL AT THE LAC DES BOULEAUXA one-of-a-kind opportunity to get acquainted with canoeing or riding a stand-up paddle board (SUP) in a delightful, captivating panorama while discovering this lake’s innumerable secrets.

THE OLD MILL TEA ROOMLocated in the heart of the park and proud with its 300-year-plus history, the tea room at the Old Mill (Vieux-Moulin) invites you to experience a tasting adventure: delve into a selection of speciality coffees and teas, Viennese pastries, smoothies, gelati, macaroons and fine chocolates in a warm, congenial atmosphere.
“ON THE ENERGY CUBES TRAIL” COURSEIn collaboration with the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie and “The Little Expé,” the park has introduced this all-new course, based on an entertaining free-of-charge format that will acquaint youngsters with the practice of cross-country skiing in a fun, casual, laid-back atmosphere.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING A cross-country skiing network comprising 35 km of mechanically groomed trails (27 km for alternating step and 8 km for skating step) welcomes you to get away from it all for hours at a time.
FATBIKE TRAILSLarge-tire bicycles, also known as fatbikes, provide traction ideal for snow-covered surfaces.
Rent them and try them out on our trails! Available at the Discovery and Services Centre all year long.

Les Lacs – As its name suggests, this pedestrian parkway lets you discover the park’s aquatic and wetland ecosystems, all extremely rich and colorful environments.

Montérégien – – Located in the middle of the forest, this trail is perfect for savouring the moment and bathing in this unique atmosphere that only the forest can offer: fragrances rich in underbrush, a sound environment that is cozy and calm, but also churning with life.

Petit-Duc – Along this trail, hikers pass between two ponds and can make eye-opening observations despite the area’s visitor traffic. It is commonplace to surprise a muskrat, a great heron on watch, or a green frog giving a concert.

TWO LAKES UNDER OBSERVATIONFor the past three years, we have been carrying out the characterization of two lakes in the park, lac Seigneurial and lac du Moulin, in collaboration with the COVABAR organization. These studies will enable us to better understand the hydrographic system and gather physico-chemical data in order to map out an action and conservation plan.
In 2020, we will carry out works to create sedimentation tanks and thus increase water quality.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST TICKSSeveral tick species inhabit the park. Some of them are carriers of a bacterium, itself a carrier of Lyme’s disease. Preventive measures against tick bites consist in staying on the maintained trails, wearing long-sleeve clothes, using a DEET-based insecticide, and inspecting over your body at day’s end.
TINY, RARE AND PRECIOUS!The chorus frog is one of Quebec’s smallest, and rarest, anuran species. In southern Quebec, the majority of its populations are in decline. In collaboration with several partners, the park is going to considerable lengths in order to re-create habitats conducive to reproduction of this species. A re-introduction of the chorus frog into the park is scheduled for the 2020-2021 season. Mother Nature permitting, these re-introduced chorus frogs will form new populations in a protected territory. To find out more about this amphibian, consult our new discovery panel located near the playground!
We have laid out five new marshes in the park to promote re-establishment of chorus frog populations.
CONSERVE FOR TOMORROW
VIRGINIA DEER OVERPOPULATIONAs a result of our last Virginia deer stocktaking operation, we determined that the deer’s population density in the park was 16 deer/km2… just plain enormous! According to scientific literature, it is desirable to maintain a deer population density of 5 deer/km2 in order to preserve a balance in the ecosystem. This overpopulation of the Virginia deer causes major impacts on vegetation in the park, risk of collisions, as well as spread of the black-legged tick and, as a result, Lyme’s disease. A study carried out in 2013-2014 in the park, in collaboration with the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale (Plant Biology Research Institute), showed how the Virginia deer’s excessive nibbling has led to the decline in white trillium populations, and has also affected several other plant species. We are currently working in collaboration with the ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs in order to draw up and implement a plan of action intending to find solutions for fending off this glut.
Did you know that our last deer stocktaking operation in 2018 estimated the deer population in the park at 148 individuals, or three times the viable population needed for maintaining a balance in the ecosystem?

Remember that animals are in their natural habitat and that you are a visitor. To ensure both your safety and theirs, feeding them is prohibited; otherwise they may lose their natural fear of human beings and become aggressive.
To preserve our natural riches, you are not allowed to remove any natural elements (animals, plants, dead wood, rocks, etc.). Please also keep to established hiking trails to avoid trampling flora.
