PARC was fortunate to have been selected as the class project by the Leadership St. PeteClass of 2013. The group started its planning and fundraising efforts in early 2013 to help PARC develop an inclusive and vocational horticulture program - PARC in Bloom. With fun events, direct appeals, and grassroots efforts, the Class of 2013 raised the necessary funds and in-kind contributions to make PARC in Bloom a reality. Project Day included building various garden stations, building and erecting multiple trellises, installing new paving, planting new landscape throughout PARC, revitalizing a greenhouse, and planning for a much-needed irrigation system. The Class of 2013 and those involved with this project donated a staggering 696 hours of volunteer service.

This generosity will allow PARC in Bloom to offer a garden of healthy foodchoices, sustainable job training opportunities, revenue generating initiatives, and a therapeutic work environment that fosters personal growth.

The enthusiasm and dedication of the entire Leadership St. Pete Class of 2013made PARC’s 60th Anniversary a year to remember!

Grand Opening Autism Behavioral Center

In its 60 year history, PARC’s focus has been on providing services that are important to the community. Autism research shows that 1 in 88 children will be born with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Additionally, Autism Spectrum Disorder is 5 times more common in boys. The increase in diagnosis leaves families and many schools in need of additional support for a child on the spectrum. To ensure there are no potential gaps in services for those with an ASD, PARC opened the Autism Behavioral Center on May 13, 2013.

The Autism Behavioral Center at PARC provides Applied Behavior Analysis as medically prescribed therapy to children and adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Autism Behavioral Center boasts private therapy rooms, family observation areas and a multi-sensory Snoezelen Room, a state of the art therapy environment.

The ABC Grand Opening included opening remarks from Pinellas County Commission Chairman Kenneth Welch and a special presentation from Wellcare of Florida, a major sponsor of the Snoezelen Room.

Applied Behavioral Analysis is covered by most major healthcare plans.

Financial Summary

PARC depends on individual and corporate donations, endowments, bequests and grants to support its efforts. Donors can take pride in knowing they are helping to turn disabilities into capabilities. PARC is funded in part by Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Coordinated Child Care of Pinellas, Inc. and Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County, Department of Education – Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Health – Children’s Medical Services, Juvenile Welfare

PARC’s mission is to provide opportunities for children

and adults with developmental disabilities to exercise their independence

and experience life to the fullest.

PARC depends on the involvement and

contributions from the community to serve over 800

adults and children in the multitude of services offered daily. There are many ways

you can support PARC:

Become an annual Circle of Friends Sponsor or PARC Pal.

Donate to PARC through Memorial & Honorary Gifts.

Consider a major or planned gift.

Financial giving from the community has been imperative in being able to offer a multitude of

services for the adults and children. PARC appreciates the civic groups,

religious organizations, schools and others who have made gifts to the

agency to further enhance the mission.

Special events throughout the year give PARC much needed financial support as well as

opportunities to present to the community the mission and spirit of the agency. The annual Black Tie Ball, Golf Tournaments,

Tampa Bay Blues Festival, Art in the PARC and 97X Next Big Thing were well attended and

generously sponsored.

Since 1953, volunteers have been the strength of PARC. Volunteers serve in

many areas including the Board of Directors, LARC, Thrift Store, special

events, Parents, Guardian & Friends, and in many programs at the agency. Also, college internships are encouraged as short term experiences which provide a real insight into what it’s actually like

working in a particular job or career field with individuals with developmental

disabilities. Volunteers are diverse and bring a tremendous amount of talent

and energy to PARC. In 2012-2013 volunteers dedicated over 11,000 hours

to the agency.

Grants & Foundation funding helps PARC with improved safety, much needed building upgrades,

and subsidizes diverse services needed to strengthen the quality of life for the adults and

children at PARC. PARC is grateful to the private and government grant & foundation opportunities

that have helped PARC significantly.

CommunityPARC participants live, work and recreate in the heart of the community. Through the generosity of many PARC friends, this

year they participated in Special Olympics, attended various sporting

events, performed for friends and family with the American Stage

Theater Company, visited Clearwater Marine Aquarium many times, and so

much more.

For many, the chance to work and obtain a job skill and earn a paycheck is

paramount to their livelihood. As is true with all people, being

independent allows for growth andeconomic freedom.

PARC will continue tomake sure all

individuals are a part of their community.

Diamond CelebrationsPARC’s 60th “Diamond” Anniversary highlighted the dynamic services for

individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities. Celebrations included a Board Alumni Social, a 60th Anniversary Diamond Anniversary Dinner, a Top Hat & Tiaras

Resident’s Party sponsored by the LARCs, a 60th Anniversary Dance, and a Discovery Learning Center Talent Show.

“PARC’s scope of services is fundamental to its success and key to supporting each and every person – young or old – who needs and deserves the same opportunities as all of us,” stated Frank Farkas, Board Chair. Last year close to 300 children received early intervention and therapies through PARC. Over 4.6 million pieces of production were handled by 175 clients who are employees at PARC Center Industries. Over 300

adults were part of adult day training activities. Over 300,000 miles were traveled last year making sure adults and children had the opportunity to be a part of services

at PARC. This is the heart of PARC – the adults and children who thrive and achieve independence.

PARC received proclamations celebrating this milestone from the City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Commission, and Florida Governor Rick Scott. A

special U.S Flag from the Honorable C.W. Bill Young was presented to mark the 60th Celebration. Caputo Creative, Inc. donated two new videos highlighting the history

and people of PARC. A special commemorative painting was presented by PARC Artists to mark the milestone.

PARC staff member, Cheryl “Sunshine” Edmonds (pictured center) was namedthe annual recipient of the Bert MullerLeadership Award. The award goes to

a PARC staff member who exemplifies the leadership qualities

set forth by PARC’s first President, Bert Muller. Cheryl is described as “amazing”, “exceptional” and

“inspirational” while working daily on a variety of art and life skills with the

adults attending the Thoresen Foundation Cultural Center.

PARC was named the charity partner for the 97X Next Big Thing 12 concert held at Vinoy Park in December 2012.

Reel Dreams, a Fox Sports Florida series, highlighted the Ringeisen

Family, whose two daughters were part of PARC’s early intervention services. The family was treated to a day of fishing with Captain Anderson, and PARC friend and

favorite baseball player, Fred McGriff. The TradeWinds Island Grand hosted a get-away weekend for the family which included special time with the lovable

dolphin, Winter, at Clearwater Marine Aquarium. CMA gifted annual passes to the family and all of PARC’s participants.

Kelli Caputo & Karen Higgins accepted the 2012 Nonprofit

of the Year Award from the Tampa Bay Beaches

Chamber of Commerce at their Annual Meeting in

January 2013.

PARC was named a St. Petersburg Chamber

of Commerce 2013 “Good Burger” award nominee.

Marcos Hasbun raised funds for PARC by receiving pledges towards a

triathlon competition held in August 2013. The donations helped make a safe

concrete path for the residents of the Bert Muller Home.

Florida ARF recognized Children’s Respite Services Manager, Jo Fort, (pictured left), as a

Circle of Champion for her dedication to children with developmental disabilities.

RESPECT of Florida awarded Certificates of Achievement to Bruce, Alex & Jeanine (pictured above) for their hard work at

PARC Center Industries.

The Carlan and Minutolo Families launched

fundraising efforts which provided for a safe play surface and age appropriate

playground equipment for toddlers at the Discovery Learning Center.

The PARC Thrift Store received a major renovation by the Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-day Saints. LDS Members recruited volunteers, raised funds, and

engaged vendors to donate their services so that the PARC Thrift Store remains a major thrift retailer in the community.

Over $2,550 of in-kind goods and services were donated and more than 70

volunteers participated and gave 420 hours of volunteer time for this much

needed project for PARC.

The Discovery Learning Center, PARC’s preschool program, has been an amazing partner in our journeyto adopt our son Jayden through foster care. Jayden was born exposed to multiple substances and

had to stay in the NICU for the first 7 weeks of his life before he could come home. He was on medications to help him ease the symptoms of withdrawl for almost the first year of his life. Jayden still

struggles with some special challenges, such as difficulty sleeping, speech delays, difficulty paying attention during age appropriate activities, and low tolerance for frustration. He also has special

medical needs associated with asthma and frequent digestive issues.

Jayden is now two years old and started at the Discovery Learning Center on May 1, 2012. I don’t know if he would have been able to attend preshool if it had not been for the dedicated and loving staff at

PARC. The experienced and knowledgeable team at DLC includes teachers, therapists, nurses, volunteers and support staff who have not only made it possible for Jayden to learn and acquire

new skills, but to also excel in all areas of development.

Jayden really amazes me every day and I am so thankful that he can attend theDiscovery Learning Center five days a week. I feel by having PARC available he has

truly been given the best start in life. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at PARC for making this possible.
