RABBI’S SHABBAT MESSAGE
This morning’s Torah parasha of Matot-Masei we are given the details of Israel’s many wanderings and travels throughout the Sinai Desert (also known in Biblical literature as
Kadesh). A wonderful question is posed regarding not only the travels of our people, but also why it was necessary to provide subsequent generations with this kind of information.
The answer, I believe, gives us all an interesting lesson in and about our lives. We as a society are deeply moved with a focus on what we do and the achievements that we
accumulate along the path of life. One person remarked that as he began looking for a senior executive position in a company what really mattered was not his character or his
education but his track record.
They want to see success written all over before they invest in him.
In life the struggle and desire to work towards the grand goal is as much an achievement as anything else. So this morning in the Torah we read of the lengthy journeys that our
people lived through. While it is true that this generation did not merit to enter in the land of Israel there are those who could think that they were failures.
