1 Assignment Statement Your client is intending to build a private
house built in reinforced concrete post and beam structural system.
The schematic design was completed by your colleagues (see
Attachment 1). You are then required to produce a set of
coordinated construction documents based on the drawing in
Attachment 1. You are required to prepare the specified
construction details and schedule, as set out below for
construction.

1 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Your Client, the campus office of a local university, intends to
develop an existing open space into the School of Music. It is
located in the heart of the university campus. The Site is
surrounded by teaching blocks of other departments and also a
student activity centre. Your task is to prepare a schematic design
which satisfies generally all functional and statutory
requirements, for presentation to the Client. Your design should
incorporate preliminary provisions and requirements for building
structure, building services, utilities and the like. The design
should be sensitive to the Site and the university
neighborhood.
2 SITE DESCRIPTION
Context The Site is a hypothetical site in the heart of a
university campus. It is generally flat and served by major Road A
and secondary Road B, both of which are more than 6m wide. The
vicinity of the Site comprises of other teaching blocks and a
student activity centre which are not more than 8 storeys high. See
Attachments 1 & 2: Location Plan and Site Plan.
Vehicular Access
Vehicular access for private cars and service vehicles shall be
through Road B.
Environmental Factors Traffic noise from the traffic roads is not
significant.

3 DESIGN BRIEF
3.1 Development Requirements
Zoning Government, Institution or Community (G/IC)
Permissible GFA under Lease Use for teaching purpose and ancillary
facilities = 5,000 s.m.
Permissible Plot Ratio (PR) and Site Coverage (SC)
Requirements under Buildings Ordinance shall be complied
with.
Building Height Not higher than +68mPD (main roof)
Site Vehicular Access Vehicular access shall be between points X
and Y through Z.
Car Parks NOT required for the purpose of this Paper
Loading and Unloading 2 nos. (3.5m x 7.5m x 3.5mH each)
Refuse Collection Vehicular access is NOT required for the purpose
of this Paper.
Barrier Free Access Statutory requirements shall be complied
with.
Lift(s) 2 nos. of passenger lifts (of shaft size minimum 2100mm x
2100mm) shall be provided
Minimum 1 no. of service lift (of shaft size minimum 2600mm x
