• Más de la mitad (58%) de los prestatarios al cierre de 2010 se concentraron en Sudamérica.

La tendencia hacia la regulación aún no es marcada en México y Centroamérica. 79% de las las IMF reguladas fueron sudamericanas (lo que representó el 27% del total de IMF participantes).

Centroamérica y El Caribe es la subregión con mayor incidencia en población rural: Honduras (51.2 %), Guatemala (50.5%) y Haití (50.0%). En América del Sur, el país con mayor población en zonas rurales fue Paraguay (38.5%).

¿Los mercados urbanos están saturados en la región?
Sudamérica aceleró el avance en colocaciones especialmente en el medio rural (89.0%) entre 2008 - 2010 en busca de nuevos mercados.
El crecimiento en escala en Centroamérica y El Caribe se justificó en zonas rurales (18.5%), la cartera en zonas urbanas aún no recuperan los niveles alcanzados en 2008.

Sudamérica presentó saldos promedio de crédito mayores a los regionales en productos retail.
Los créditos a la vivienda en México y Centroamérica se concentraron en financiar mejoras habitacionales, frente a Sudamérica donde las IMF ofrecieron más productos para adquisición de viviendas.
El avance en escala de los préstamos comerciales (25. 6% en 2010) en México se sustentó en los altos saldos promedios mantenidos (USD 76 mil frente a USD 30 mil en LAC).

SA: Normativas de regulación y/o autorregulación prudenciales en la mayoría de países contribuyeron a presentar indicadores de riesgo en niveles similares.CC: IMFs recurrieron a los castigos y al refinanciamiento de créditos, con lo que mantuvieron altos indicadores de cartera riesgosa. MEX: Mejora en los indicadores de cartera en riesgo en 2010, no obstante se mantiene aún alrededor de 10% para el grupo de IMF intensivas en consumo de la muestra.

No fue posible determinar una correlación directa respecto a indicadores de riesgo de cartera y aquellos de endeudamiento cruzado. La participación de ONG y COAC no reguladas en la muestra de Ecuador, que operan en zonas rurales con limitados competidores permitieron un menor porcentaje de Prestatarios compartidos.
Para el caso de Perú, el mayor indicador de Prestatarios Compartidos se reflejó en la intensa competencia en las principales ciudades del país, entre las IMF reguladas (Mibanco, CMACs y Financieras especialmente) integrantes de la muestra.

Es el hogar de las IMF con más alcance en toda la región (Compartamos Banco y Financiera Independencia con enfoque en financiamiento a la Microempresa y Consumo, respectivamente ).
Las SOFOM son instituciones no reguladas, es la forma legal más aplicada por las IMF, su elevada cartera acumulada se basó principalmente en las colocaciones de Financiera Independencia (60.4% a Diciembre 2010).

En base a una muestra de 13 IMF con información trimestral en 2010 y 2011 (representaron el 57.6% del total de cartera acumulado a Diciembre 2010).
El incremento de saldos colocados en el primer semestre de 2011 (24.8%) ya superó al semestre similar en 2010 (14.3%).
Por primera vez la mediana nacional estuvo por debajo del 3%, debido a la mejora en los indicadores de las SOFOMES. El grupo de Sociedades Financieras Reguladas (SOFIPOs) evidenció dificultades para reducir la cartera en mora, mantenida en niveles similares desde Setiembre 2010.
