PAMPLONA, NAVARRA
PAMPLONA, A wALLed greeN city
Founded by the Romans, Pamplona is known throughout the world as being the home of the San Fermín festival. But look beyond the festival and the capital of Navarre is now a modern and welcoming city with a lot to offer: walking between ancient walls and cobbled streets; relaxing in parks and terraces and sampling the delicious pintxos and the lively Old Quarter.

SAN FERMÍN
The San Fermín festival and the legendary running of the bulls, attracts over a million visitors every year to Pamplona. The festival starts the 6th of July at 12:00 PM with the “txupinazo,” a small firework that is fired from the balcony of the City Hall. During the week of San Fermín, Pamplona is flooded with party-goers from all over the world each donning a white t-shirt and a red handkerchief.
Gastronomy
Of course, a mention must be given to the Navarran liquor par excellence, the compelling pacharán, which many families continue to make by marinating sloes gathered from the countryside in anise.
It’s typical to go into a bar in the Basque Country and find the entire counter lined with plates of various pintxos. The name comes from the Spanish verb “pinchar” meaning to poke or stab. They range from traditional pintxos of tortilla de patatas (potato and onion omelette) to mini haute cuisine experiments.
NATURE THAT INSPIRES Navarre is the only European region to combine Alpine, Atlantic and Mediterranean landscapes.

NAVARRA, DRAGON LAND
In Bardenas Reales, the erosion of its clay, chalk and sandstone soils has sculpted capricious forms in the landscape to create almost lunar effects, full of gullies, plateaux and solitary hills. It has inspired painters and writers and has been the scene of TV shows like Game of Thrones.
