Dam Restaurant Grand Opening

August 2013

Other Placements: St. Louis Post-Distpatch: August 9, 2013 | By Ian Froeb The Dam, the new burger-centric venture from Michele Coen-Racanelli, will open Monday, August 12, at 3173 Morganford Road in Tower Grove South, the restaurant announced in a press release.

The Dam pitches itself as "Slow Food, Fast": a casual menu of burgers and sandwiches that feature sustaina-ble ingredients.

Burger aficionados will remember Coen-Racanelli from her involvement with the late, legendary Delmar Loop restaurant Big V's Burger Joint. In fact, the Dam's menu, overseen by chef Matt Galati, includes a nod to Big V's awesome (in the sense of awe-inspiring as well as just plain incredible) Animal burger: three patties with American cheese, grilled onions, jalapeño, barbe-cue sauce and bacon.

The menu (link PDF) also includes hot dogs, hand-cut fries with dipping sauces and a few sandwiches.

The Dam is located next to soccer-lover ha-ven Amsterdam Tavern. No word on the Dam's hours yet -- calls to the restaurant went unanswered this morning -- but its Facebook page notes that it is cash only.

Scottish Arms Celebration Release

Feast Magazine: January 20, 2011

It's bound to be a lively evening at The Scottish Arms Tue., Jan. 25, as the restaurant hosts an annu-al celebration for Robert Burns Day. The Scottish holiday celebrates the nation's poet and "Auld Lang Syne" author Robert Burns with traditional food, drinks and music. "Robert Burns is a Scottish leg-end," says bar manager Chris Lynch. "We've cele-brated this every year." Last year's bash drew such a good crowd that Scottish Arms has added to the festivities this year.

Here's what's in store for the night:

7pm - Whisky, cocktails and wassail (a tradi-

tional drink made with hard cider, lemon, cinna-

mon, cloves, honey and a little nutmeg) with bag-

pipes and entertainment 7:30pm - Ode to haggis (the national dish of Scot-land presented by Scottish Arms owner Ally Nisbet

7:30pm to 8:30pm - Whisky Tasting: Five rare

regional whiskies paired with cheese and presented

by Nisbet and Lynch

8:30pm - Live music with Nisbet and his friend

Andrew. They'll be playing a foot-tapping mix of

old Burns tunes and new Scottish music. The whisky tasting costs $25 but is not mandatory to take part in the festivities. Reservations are recommended.

Riverfront Times: January 18, 2011

Tuesday, January 25, is Burns Night, celebrating the birthday of the great Scottish poet Robert Burns. Those who love Burns' poetry and haggis -- or at least one of the two -- can celebrate at both the Scottish Arms and t h e S c h l a f l y T a p R o o m . The Scottish Arms celebration begins at 7 p.m. Owner Ally Nesbit will read Burns' "Address to a Haggis" at 7:30, and live music, including songs by Burns, will begin at 8:30. In addition, there will be a tasting of five rare whiskies, paired with cheese, from 7:30-8:30. The cost for the whisky tasting is $25, and reservations are recommended. However, you don't have to partici-pate in the whisky tasting to enjoy the rest of the party. The Schlafly Tap Room party gets underway at 5 p.m. The main event -- the presentation of both the haggis and Schlafly's Scotch Ale (a personal favorite brew of mine) -- is at 6. Live music follows beginning at 7.
