KRISPY KREMES On Saturday April 1 the youth of Gloria Dei sold 587 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts on the street corners of Sioux Falls. For anyone who loves numbers, that is 7044 donuts. For anyone who loves Krispy Kremes, we hope you were able to come out and get your donuts. For anyone who loves our youth and supported them with this fundraiser, THANK YOU!! PALM SUNDAY BRUNCH A HUGE Thank You to anyone and everyone who helped to prepare, serve or enjoy this wonderful feast. We served a record 387 people at this year’s brunch! We continue to be amazed by how fabulous and generous this congregation is in supporting the Youth and their mission trips. This year our youth will be traveling to Philadelphia, and Minneapolis in service to others. GATHER The youth assembled Easter baskets and per- sonally delivered them to the members of the Gather Bible Study this past Wednesday. The women in the study were surprised and very welcoming to the youth who came by. There were conversations shared and many smiles exchanged. If you ask the women they would say how much it meant to them and what a treat it was; but if you ask the youth they would claim to be the real lucky ones in this exchange. What a gift to be able to connect in fellowship through service. One of my favorite books is Max Lucado’s book, “Traveling Light”. In his book Lucado uses the imagery of carrying around a suit case, or suit cases, full of stuff. The stuff in life that we pack and carry with us; hurts, sins, disappointments, brokenness, grief; the list could go on and on. He goes on to say when we carry all that stuff and we meet someone else, we just add to it all. How can we be healthy and whole if we spend all this time carrying that with us? God did not create us to carry all of that! We simply cannot. We get sick, mentally and physically. This past Good Friday we physically came up to the cross and put our sins, brokenness, hurts, grief, and disappointments, into the burlap on the cross. I don’t know about you, but unless I physically do something, I might say I leave it at the foot of the cross, but I walk out the door with my luggage. That Friday night was powerful for me because I had to physically leave that luggage at the foot of the cross. I was reminded that it is God who takes that on and we get to walk lighter because of what He has done for each and every one of us! Easter Sunday we celebrated the Risen Lord. We celebrate a God who takes our place. A God who gives us new life. A God who created us to leave our burdens at the foot of the cross, to be made new daily through the waters of our baptism, and to GO and tell the good news in the world around us. My prayer for each and every one of you is that you may walk a little lighter. That you would leave your “stuff” at the foot of the cross. I pray that you would live as God intended you to live, free to proclaim the Risen Lord and free to serve and love others. I can’t wait to see how God works in and through each and every one of you! God Bless, Pastor Sarah

The Big Squeeze is the month of April. The program purpose is

to increase awareness of and treatment for high blood pressure. It is offered by Live Well Sioux Falls, a community-based initiative designed to help improve the health and well-being of Sioux Falls residents by collaborating on projects to address health needs. Although anyone can and should have their blood pressure checked in April, the focus this year is younger adults. Hypertension often exists in this age group as well, and needs to be detected and treat-ed. You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) without any symptoms. Even without symptoms, damage to blood vessels and your heart continues and can be detected. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke.

Stop by and get your blood pressure checked.

April 16-22 is National Healthcare Decisions Week. The goal is to inspire, educate and empower people about the importance of advanced care planning, or sharing your wishes and desires for care near the end-of-life. The conversation is not easy, but it is a gift loved ones will cherish with gratitude in the years to come. It is recommended that the conversation begin as early as 18 years old! Join us to learn more: Advance Care Planning: Start the Conversation on Sunday April 30 in the chapel from 10-11:30am. We’ll discuss essential aspects of this conversation including how to choose a healthcare agent. You’ll leave with a copy of the advanced care legal document for you to finish and have available with your will. For questions contact Judi Schwerin, Faith Community Nurse. ALL are Welcome!!

God has really blessed us at Gloria Dei! Many people have invited and welcomed friends which is awesome. Because of all

your great work of being disciples we have a wonderful problem, our 9am worship service as well as our Sunday church

school classes are overflowing! We will be adding a second church school time on Sunday to help. Sunday church school

next year will be 9:20-10:05am and 10:50-11:35am. Wednesday church school will also be an option, from 4:00-5:00pm.

Help us plan for next fall. Watch for church school registration information coming soon online and at the Welcome Center!
