INTRODUCTION:The story of the advancement of Pakistan Army is the tale of the birth of Pakistan, since itsinception from the freckled nucleus of a regal legacy to its present status of an avant-garde andcombat-tested field Army; it is an epoch of development which leaves behind its trials andtribulations, calamities and conflicts, as it struggled, with scarcity of possessions to embark on its

shaping years. This is, conceivably, the enormous paradigm amongst few armies in history tohave faced a war right at its setting up and, in thesubsequent years, besides guarding the geographical

precincts, it is always prepared to protect theideological boundaries of the country.

Nations can dream of their socio-economic progressand development only when they are sure that their guardians are strong enough to ensure protectionand peace. In case of Pakistan, a strong defense wasall the more a stark reality to face the encounters

and hostilities with unflinching courage. Our chivalrous soldiers of brave Armed Forces, apartfrom defending the countrys borders, alwaysremained in the forefront of national development.Whether floods, earthquakes and other natural calamites, maintain law and order or the UN

peace efforts, the performance of our officers and men, always earned national and internationalacclaim from their friends and foes alike.

It has a flow and a body of its own whose velocity is

sustained by noblest of traditions applied in very exactingmanner. While it aims at destroying the aggressor, itrequires its members to possess mettle of highest qualitywith sound character, most pure. The soldiers haveinvincible belief in the concept of Ghazi or Shaheed and it

provides them great motivating force with specific elementof self-negation in the way of Almighty Allah.

It is the only profession in the world taken-up by the ablest bodies that vow to lay down their lifewillingly, in the way of Almighty Allah.

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of the Nation. Presently, the ninthmost populous country in the world, Pakistan covers an area of 800,000 square kilometers, surrounded by Arabian Sea, Iran, Afghanistan, Soviet Union, China and India. Pakistan is acountry that enjoys diverse sub-cultures, resultant of being host to major historical events andinfluences of various civilizations. Similarly, it is a land that harbors diverse environmentalfacets within itself, from deserts to glaciated ice, to rich forests, fertile plains, rivers, lakes etc; aregion that is bestowed with the best that nature has to offer.

HISTORY OF PAKISTAN ARMY:Before 1947, most military officers of newly formed Pakistan Armed Forces had served in theBritish colonial army established in South Asia, as the armed force was known as under

the British Raj , fought in both the World Wars and the numerous Anglo-Afghan Wars. Severalexperienced commanders who fought in the British military in World War II joined the militaryof Pakistan giving it professionalism, experience and leadership. After independence, themilitary was supposed to have been divided between India and Pakistan with a ratio of 64%going to India and 36% for Pakistan; however, it is estimated that India refused to divide itsshare of equipment and some analyst suggest that Pakistan inherited a mere 15% of its allocatedshare. Post-independence, it has fought three wars against India, several border skirmishes withAfghanistan and against the Soviet Union, which occupied Afghanistan in 1979, and an extended

A follower of none but Allah. And a follower of none but his messenger.

The concept of no deity except Allah is always alive in the Muslims heart. A Muslimrecognizes that Allah alone is the Creator; there He alone is the Provider and Sustainer that He is

the true Reality, the source of all things of all benefits and harms. This requires that He alone beworshiped and obeyed. No deity except Allah also includes the question of authority as theright to govern belongs to the One Who created him.

Belief in Allahs messenger means accepting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the last messenger sent by Him. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the spokesman for God by His authority. The dutyof Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was not only to deliver the message, which Allah revealed, butalso to explain it and put it into practice as an example to be followed by mankind.

    Taqwa Taqwa signifies: -

The fear of Allah. Guarding ones tongue, hands and heart from evil. Righteous, piety and good conduct.

Taqwa connotes the sense of protecting oneself from moral peril, preserving ones virtue, andguarding oneself against the displeasure of Almighty. It is, thus, a kind of awareness or consciousness by means of which one protects oneself from sliding into evil.

Jihad-fi-SabilillahThe real objective of Islam is to shift the lordship of man over man to the lordship of Allah onthe earth and to stake one's life and everything else to achieve this sacred purpose. The Arabicword Jihad means to struggle or to strive. In as much as Jihad is a struggle, it is a struggleagainst all that is perceived as evil in the cause of that which is perceived good, a cosmic andepic struggle spanning time and all dimensions of human thought and action, and transcending

the physical universe. The Islamic Law regulates declaration of Jihad as also the limitations areimposed on its conduct. In Chapter II verse 190 of The Holy Quran the reference to the duty of the Muslims to fight in the cause of God those who fight you and be not aggressors. God lovenot those who are aggressors.

The Muslims when they are engaged in fighting are not to transgress the limits within which war is allowed to be waged and, in principle, they are not to be cruel or become revengeful. Thegeneral command to be just and fair is discernible from Chapter V. Verse 8:

    VISION, OBJECTIVES AND PRINCIPLES

And let not the hatred of other people to youmake you swerve to wrong and depart from

justice. Be just, that is next to piety. And fear God,Surely, Allah is aware of what you do

ARMY STRUCTURE IS BASICALLYBASED ON THESE CORES:The Structure of the Pakistan Army can be broken down two ways, administrative, andoperational.

The General Headquarter (GHQ) of Pakistan Army is located in the garrison cityof Rawalpindi in Punjab province.

Armoured CorpsThis perilous journey from Ahmednagar to Nowshera commenced with theannouncement of independence of Pakistan as made by Quaid-i

Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. On the same day, the Pakistan ArmouredCorps was born.

ArtilleryBefore reaching the enviable stage of self-propelled guns, automated fire

control system, target acquisition radars, meteorological radars, variety of munitions including nuclear warheads, guided missiles, Artillery has comea long way.

Army Air DefenseAir defence is basic to survival in modern war. Air threat spectrum todayand in any future war demands a continuous balancing of threat response.Threat response today clearly demands a sound development of a warningsystem designed to detect, track, acquire targets, moving at speed from 0 1800 meters per second both during day and night.

EngineersEngineers, Sappers or artisans have in one form or the other remained partof an army ever since the birth of a fighting force. Evidence of the work of the earliest military engineers can be found in many parts of the world; HillForts of Europe in Iron Age, Fortifications protecting City of Zimbabwe of lost civilization and not the least, the Great Wall of China built in 3 BC.

Army Aviation CorpsIn 1947, at the time of independence, Pakistan inherited four fabric covered

Auster airplanes. These were part of an Air Observation Post Squadron, which was deployed in Lahore in support of Punjab Boundary Commission. These four Auster aircrafts were grouped in Chaklala as 1st Air Observation Post flight.InfantryInfantry are soldiers who fight primarily on foot with small arms inorganized military units. Infantry forms the backbone of all armies. Mainly

because of its suppleness and that it can be used in more different roles thanthe other arms.
