Today we have a number of lovely Painted Ladies to share with you.
A Painted Lady is a hard rock with a thin veneer of opal on it. The Andamooka opal field produces a lot of Painted Ladies. They are not all suitable for jewellery but they do find a number of uses, some people make ashtrays and small bowls for nuts and chocolates. They can be used as specimens but should be cut into cabochons, probably freeform. They are becoming more and more rare and are just about impossible to find.
The Painted Lady IMG_9546 has colour on the back of the stone and through the stone but the beautiful blue green on the front of the stone measures approximately 37mm x 20mm and will make a wonderful pendant or a pair of cufflinks or earrings for $175, it really is a lovely piece.
The Painted Lady IMG_9550 not only has the colour that is showing in the top of the stone but it has another bar running through it which could be utilised as well. This is a beautiful piece for only $250, it measures approximately 40mm x 35mm and would weigh over 1oz.
Of course the largest Painted Lady IMG_9542 for $700 is by far the best brilliant blues and lovely sea greens, this would make a lovely ring, pendant, earrings, the whole lot. If this was solid opal we would be looking at a minimum of $3,000/oz for such colour. The approximate size is 64mm x 60mm.
