TTie adult art classes at Rox- bury central school began Nov. 15. Instead of painting and drawing this year, other forms of art, sculpture, wood carving, clay, will be taught. , John Shultis celebrated his birthday Sunday when he and Mrs. Shultis were dinner guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knight, at Frasers. Mr. and Mrs. Myron LaRue of Greene were guests one day last ■week of Mr. and Mrs. Elton La- Hue, his brother and sister-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Tebo of Itowayton, Conn., and Peter Win- ston of Rego Park were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard , Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Wash- bum moved here from Delmar, and are living in the apartment over Bud Gile’s store. He is the new conservation officer. Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Flachs have moved from their mobile home to their newly-built house in Denver. Mrs. John B. Hewitt and Mrs. EJdwfuni J. Magenheimer were luncheon g^uests Wednesday of Mrs. Hewitt’s sister, Mrs. Paul Benedetto, at Cairo. Mrs. Joan Cronk and sons will move from West Settlement to an apeirtment over the insurance office on Main street. Gerald Wright is a patient at Stamford hospital. George Boyle, who recently completed a course in carpentry at Binghamton, is building a barn on the HAAPJE farms, the for- mer Stone House farm, above Rox- bury. The Boyles live in the apartment over Monington’s. Teacher Injured Mrs. Mildred Archibald, fourth grade teacher at Roxbury, injured her back in a fall, and Mrs. Le- land Fanning is substituting for her at Roxbury central school. Mrs. Agnes Scherwin of Ridge- wood, N. J., and Miss Marian Raynor of White Plains were visitors last week of Mrs. Helen K Bates and Miss Marion Keev- ney. Robert J. Cole has moved his barber shop from his home to Newman Ruth’s building, where there was a barber shop in former years. Mrs. Sophie W ebster amd son, Peter, of Beechurst, L. I., arrived Friday night to spend two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. James O. Boerem. Wayne Boerem of Himt- ington Station, L. I., will spend a few days with the Boerems. Mrs. Eli Frechette has moved to Roxbury from Prattsville and has purchased a large trailer, which is set on the back lot of the property of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Finch, on upper Main street. The mobile home was moved there on Saturday. Buys Cottage Miss Ellen Stevens of New York City, a dress designer, has pur- chased one of the Roxbury Run cottages which is being built. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Myers and children, Barbara, Rickey, Frank and Lisa, of Buffalo are spending Thanksgiving week with Mrs. Myers’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Leighton Enderlin. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welch and four chUdren of Rensselaer will spend Thanksgiv- ing with Mr. and Mrs. Enderlin. Mr. and Mrs. Linden Gregory, Mrs. J. Malcolm Tobin and daugh- ter, Sandra, and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bookhout attended the all-state sectional musical concert at Mohawk Saturday evening. Five Roxbury central school students participated, Fred Lutz and Kathy Thompson in the chorus, and Wal- ter Gregory, Gregg Bookhout and Jacqueline "Tobin in the band. Mrs. Everett Anderson of Fonda and her nephew, Shavwi Tyler, of Cobleskill spent Friday with Mrs. Anderson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irving H. Tyler. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brady and daughter, Shawn, of Newburgh are spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. William Graham, Visiting other relatives and friends and hunting. . Dr. and Mrs. Richard C. Ames and son, Michael, of Ossining spent the weekend with Dr. Ames’ mother, Mrs. Carlos Ames. Melvin Stahl came home Satur- day night from the Stamford hos- pital, where he had si>ent three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hinkley of Sidney spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Carroll G. Hinkley. Miss Susan Ballard, who works at the bank, has rented the apart- ment in Mrs. Donald Weyl’s house next door and will live there this winter. H. Grant Morse is a patient at Margaretville hospital. He Is able to sit up now. His son, Guilford, who was in Vietnam, was called home because of his father’s sud- den severe illness, and is on a 30-day leave at his home. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Higgins and sons, Lewis and Billy, spent the weekend with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Snow, in BinghEunton. Mrs. Ema Sprenger, who re- cently purchased the small house of Mrs. Doris Gray on Lake street, left Saturday to visit her daugh- ter, Mrs. Kay Lampe, at Saddle Brook, N. J. Ira Jones and son- in-law, Sherrill Tompkins of Rox- bury, accompanied her there. Mrs. Lampe, a former television act- ress, was one of the teachers in “Mr. Peepers” school in the early days of television. Mrs. Sprenger, a native of Germany, was a dancer in her youth. Daniel Boyd of Glen Rock, N. J., is spending a few days at his Roxbury home. Marvin Newman and sister, Miss Newman, of Valley Stream, L. I., future area residents, and Charles Hess of Seaford, L. I., were in town Friday. Mack Deleski of Woodmont, Conn., is spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rossman and is hunting. Miss Dorothy Rossman of Delhi Tech will be home for ’Thanksgiving. Had Anniversary Treat Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hinkley of Roxbury and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Callahan of Stamford gave their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hinkley, a surprise party Satur- day night to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. About 35 friends and relatives were present. From out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reynolds and daugh- ters, Janine and Renee, Mr. and Mrs. ’Tracy Reynolds, Miss Teresa GiU, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hink- ley of Sidney, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hale of Rensselaerville. Two From Roxbury Train in Job Corps Willy Burroughs of Roxbury and Jerry Merwin of Bloomville have been sworn into the Job Corps and have been assigned to Camp Kilmer, N. J., for testing and educational and mechanical job training. Betty Burroughs of Roxbury, a sister of WUly Burroughs, was home last weekend from Jersey City, where she is taking training in dietetic and nutrition training in the Job Corps. M rs. Lucy C. Sm ith W as H alcott Native Mrs. Lucy Crosby Smith, a na- tive of Halcott Center, died last week Wednesday at the Sidney hospital following an extended ill- ness. Mrs. Smith had been living with a niece, Mrs. Lucy Griswold of Mt. Upton, for 16 years. Funeral services were held Sat- urday afternoon at the Joyce fu- neral home in Unadilla, followed by graveside services at the Cros- by cemetery in Halcott Center. Rev. Alfred Bentall officiated. Mrs. Smith is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lulu DuMond of Mt. Upton. Mrs. Ruth Sheldon of Mt. Upton and Mrs. Martha Earl of Unadilla are also nieces. Louis and George Crosby of Halcott Center and Ward DuMond of St. Marks, Fla., are nephews. Bom Jan. 12, 1872, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of David J. and Bethia Brown Crosby of Halcott Center. She was married Oct. 23, 1901 to Haermam Smith of Hal- cott Center. Ralph Y anson W as Body Shop O perator Ralph Yanson, 60, operator of an auto body shop in Grand Gorge for many years, died unexi>ectedly last week Monday at his home in Grand Gorge. Funeral services were held Fri- day afternoon at the Grand Gorge Methodist church. Dr. Phillip S. W atters officiated. Burial is in Fairview cemetery in Grand Gorge. Mr. Yanson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helene Brady Yanson, whom he married April 16, 1927, at Roxbury. Also surviving are a son, ’Thomas Yanson of Grand Gorge, and a sister, Mrs. Leta Reynolds of Otego. He was born May 17, 1907, in Grand Gorge, the son of Earl and Myrtil Harris Yanson. Shandaken Club H ad Social Security Talk Phoenicia, Nov. 20.—^Mrs. Alice Rappe of Mt. ’T r^ p er conducted the meeting of the town of Shan- daken Republican club at the town hall Thursday night. She introduced Hy Gardlin of Kings- ton, who gave em outline on so- cial security. He also held a question and answer period. Mr. Gardlin will be at the Phoenicia office of the Kingston Trust Co. on Monday, Dec. 4, from 10 a. m. imtil 2 p. m. to interview persons who have ques- tions on social security. Andes By Mrs. John Jakszewski Andes, Nov. 20 The junior department of the Andes United Presbyterian church collected $49.11 for UNICEF on Halloween. Dr. Patricia Numann, accom- panied by a doctor from Lima, Peru, visited Miss Ana Gamero and Jorge Obradovich at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Hom- beck. Ana and Jorge are the Andes exchange students from Peru. Dr. Numann and the doctor from Peru are taking a course in surgery at Syracuse Medical Cen- ter. Mr. and Mrs. David Russell and two children of Kirkville spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clide Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Russell of Bovina. Mrs. Russell and chil- dren remained for the week. Mr. Russell went home Sunday. Move Into Home Mr. and Mrs. Richard Decker moved this week into the home they recently purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Donald Parsons. Miss Bessie Bruce imderwent surgery at Margaretville hospital Friday. Mr. and Mrs. James Davis and son, Billy, of Middleburgh spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Davis. Tw o Teachers Study A t Frisco Conclave Phoenicia, Nov. 20.—Mrs. Elsie Dibbell, kindergarten teacher at the Phoenicia elementary school, and Mrs. MUdred McLaughlin, second grade teacher at the Ben- nett elementary school, attended the conference of the Association for the Education for Young Chil- dren Nov. 8 through 11 at the Montessori school at San Fran- cisco. Mrs. Dibbell is the vice- president of the Tri-County second Regional association of the Mid- Hudson chapter, and Mrs. Mc- Laughlin is the membership chair- man. Mrs. Dibbell will meet with other teachers and discuss use and application of audio and visual multi-medial material for use with primary grade children. Mr. Yanson is survived by his wife, M rs. H elene B rady Yanson, whom he m arried April 16, 1927, a t Roxbury. Also surviving a re a son, ’Thomas Yanson of G rand Gorge, and a sister, M rs. L eta Reynolds of Otego.

He was born M ay 17, 1907, in G rand Gorge, th e son of E arl and M yrtil H arris Yanson.
