It was custom framed. Cross stitched all in one color, this sampler celebrates the joyful peace of a humble cottage in the winter woods. The timeless design is rich in motifs that can be singled out for stitching on a wide range of home accessories. Use the bottom band on a table runner, center the sleigh on a bread cloth border, put a single snowflake on a napkin ring, or wrap a candle with a band of deer. The alphabet can even be used for charting personalized projects. Enjoy!

Note: Table set designs on Cracked Wheat Ragusa (14 count) were stitched using DMC floss color 823. Six strands of floss were used for Cross Stitch and 2 for Backstitch. Eleven skeins of floss are needed to com-plete the table set.

Table Runner: Cottage, Trees, Snow-flakes, and Skaters only were stitched over 2 fabric threads on each short end of a 16 ½” x 36” piece of Cracked Wheat Ragusa (14 count) with bottom of design 3” from short edge of fabric. For table runner, machine stitch 2 ¼” from each short edge and fringe fabric to machine-stitched lines. Fold each long edge of fabric ½” to wrong side; press. Fold ½” to wrong side again and hem.

Bread Cloth: Horse and Sleigh only were stitched over 2 fabric threads on an 11 ½” x 20” piece of Cracked Wheat Ragusa (14 count) with bottom of design 1 ½” from one short edge of fabric. To finish bread cloth, machine stitch 7/8” from each short edge and fringe fabric to machine-stitched lines. Fold each long edge of fabric ½” to wrong side; press. Fold ½” to wrong side again and hem.

Candle Band: Deer and Snowflake only were stitched over 2 fabric threads on a 20” x 4 ¼” piece of Cracked Wheat Ragusa (14 count). Refer to photo for placement of design. (Note: We used a 6” diameter, 6” tall candle. Adjust fabric measurements for other candle sizes.) To prevent fraying, machine zigzag long edges of fabric. Fold long edges of fabric ½” to wrong side; press and hem. Fold one short edge of fabric ½” to wrong side; press. Wrap band around candle and whipstitch short ends together with pressed edge on top.

Napkin Ring: Snowflake only was centered and stitched over 2 fabric threads on a 7” x 5” piece of Cracked Wheat Ragusa (14 count). For napkin ring, cut a 6” x 2” piece of buckram. (Note: A double thickness of heavyweight interfacing may be substituted for buckram.) Center buckram on wrong side of stitched piece. Fold short edges of fabric over buckram; pin in place. Fold one long edge of fabric over buckram; pin in place. Fold remaining edge of fabric ¼” to wrong side; fold over buckram and pin in place. Whipstitch fabric in place; remove pins. Whipstitch short edges together to form a ring.
