Living God’s Word

Over the past few weeks the Scriptures have provided us with a feast of images of God’s

abundant mercy. Today’s image of the Heavenly Banquet both completes the picture of God’s generosity and shifts our attention to

our response to God’s generous invitation.

Reflection on Today’s Scripture Readings

As Catholics we are invited to “come to the feast” at significant moments in our lives. Baptisms, First Communions, Marriages, Ordinations, and Funeral Rites are all commonly celebrated within the feast of the Eucharist. The clothes we wear—from the baptismal garment to the funeral pall, from fancy wedding garb to simple white albs—reflect our baptismal commitment to be faithful to Christ until we come to the eternal heavenly feast that our eucharistic celebrations anticipate. All are invited to come to the feast. All are invited to dress in the garment of Christ. Not all respond to the invitation. It has often been asked what would happen if, some Sunday morning, praying as we always do for Christ to come again, Christ actually did return. Would we come to his feast? Would we prefer our small private gathering to the huge mass of people we don’t really want to know? Would we be found wearing the garment of faithfulness we were given in baptism? Where would we be “on that day”?—Virginia Stillwell

Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure!

“My God will supply whatever you need…” - PHILIPPIANS 4:19 God really does provide for those who are grateful and generous. This is very difficult for people that don’t live a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skep cal and say it’s just coincidence. If you are skep cal, try living a stewardship lifestyle for just one month – be generous with your gi s of me in prayer, talent in charitable works and treasure and see how God provides for your needs.

—Virginia Stillwell

Administradores: ¡Compartiendo Nuestro Tiempo, Talento, Y Tesoro!

Right to Life

This weekend, after all the Masses, our Respect Life Committee will be selling raffle tickets for NJ Right to Life. The tickets are $10 each and the prizes are:

a 2021 Volvo SUV, and 3 Shop-Rite gift certificates of $1000, $750 and $500.

This is the biggest annual fund-raising event for NJRTL to enable them to carry on their unique work. Please consider buying one or more tickets.

Since we were unable to distribute Baby Bottles last Mother’s Day due to COVID, we will also be handing them out when we sell the raffle tickets. The change collected in the bottles is sent to our 3 Crisis Pregnancy Centers, who are much in need of these funds.

We ask that they be returned (full or empty) by Sunday, Nov. 1st.

Forty Days for Life began on September 23rd. Please consider spending 1-2 hours in prayerful vigil (on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays from 7am to 2pm) outside the abortion clinic at 10 Zabriskie Street, Hackensack. Contact Margaret Scully at 201-805-0937 or email at:

[email protected] for information or to sign up.

Healing Mass

Padre Pio once said, “After my death, my mission starts.”

Fifty-two years after his death, his mission continues to flourish around the world. People have been healed, converted and strengthened in their faith, hope and love through his intercession. In response for the need to continue the mission of the Humble Padre, the Padre Pio Prayer Group in our parish will start a Healing Mass every third Saturday at 3:00PM starting October 17th until December. There will be an exposition of the first-class relic of Padre Pio before and during the Mass. At the end of the Mass, each one will be blessed by the priest with the relics of Padre Pio. Please come and experience a prayerful moment with the greatest saint of the millennia.

SAINT TERESA OF JESUS (1515-1582) October 15 Let nothing disturb you; let nothing frighten you. Gifted with a passionate spirit, young Teresa dreamed of converting Muslims and becoming a martyr. All things are passing; God never changes. But her mother’s death when Teresa was fourteen inspired lifelong devotion to Our Lady, and Teresa entered the Carmelites, Mary’s order, despite her father’s objections and her own fragile health. Patience gains everything. Initially, she enjoyed her lax convent’s sociability and “busyness,” but mystical prayer and John of the Cross’s collaboration inspired her to reform the Carmelites. Whoever has God, lacks nothing. When her ideals encountered resistance and brought suffering, she maintained her peace-—and humor. Discovered devouring leftovers, she told her mildly scandalized nuns, “When I fast, I fast! When I eat, I eat!” To nuns demanding less work and more prayer in the convent schedule, she retorted: “What we really need around here are fewer starry eyes and more strong arms!” God alone is enough! The italicized sentences here are her “Breviary Bookmark,” the simple, profound prayer of Teresa, the first woman Doctor of the Church. —Peter Scagnelli

My Angel From God

“My little angel was sent to save my life, and I know without a doubt that I wouldn’t be here today without

her. At that time in my life, I was in a very dark place and did not respect or love myself. But God gave me a reason to believe my life has a purpose. My daughter brought me back to Christ and the Church and gave my life direction. She is the reason I will fight my hardest to end abortion

and to help all pregnant women in need.”

Unbelievable Support

My parents’ reactions and knowing that my baby’s father would be

there for us contributed immensely to the peace I eventually felt.

Not only did the baby turn my life around, but she also turned her

father’s life around and brought the two of us together.

boletos para la rifa de NJ Right to Life.
