As the enrollment period for the 2017-18 school year approaches, we wanted to

share some exciting news and potential opportunities for our students. Beginning

next school year, we will be offering 19 new courses to enhance the educational pos-

sibilities for our students. Additionally, in order to better meet the needs of our stu-

dents, we are gauging interest in the possibility of flexible scheduling. This would

allow us to better meet the individual needs of our students by adding "0 hour" and

"8th hour" classes. This flex scheduling option would allow for the opportunity

to enroll in additional course work, as well as the possibility to start and finish the

school day earlier or later.

Potential Flexible School Day Options

Found her Stride in Male-Dominated Industry

PHS Junior and CV Tech student, Trinity Warren, is one of only two fe-male students enrolled in the Auto Collision Technology program at CVTC. Working with her hands has eased the pain of the unexpected loss of both her parents and has also given her confidence to look to a better future for both herself and her two younger siblings. "I fit natural-ly in Auto Collision," Warren said. " I grew up around boys. I even pre-ferred to play with toy cars."

Attendance incentive 2nd Quarter

We had a whopping 345 students qualify for the second

nine weeks attendance incentive. To qualify, a student could

only have 1 absence and/or 1 tardy for the entire second

nine weeks! We had drawings for apparel and gift cards

and the big prize of an Apple iwatch! Thanks to a generous

donation from our sponsors Quail Creek Bank for the

Apple iwatch and for free drink and burger coupons.

We appreciate all of our donations of gift cards and apparel

to help make this program a success!

The 2016 season brought success for the Piedmont Wildcat football team. The team finished 6-5 and made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2011, and the first time ever in class 5A. Piedmont opened the season at El Reno and came away with a 30-15 victory. They completed their non-district schedule with two hard-fought losses to Weatherford and Noble. The team then went on a five game district win streak, highlighted by a 52-23 statement win at Woodward and a signature win vs Guthrie 22-14. This secured the Wildcats a playoff birth and vaulted them into the top ten rank-ings in class 5A. The season ended with losses to the eventual state champion, state runner-up, and state semifinalist, but the Wildcats finished with pride in their accomplishments. This years seniors were awarded with multiple post-season honors. Nine players made the 5A-2 All-District team, including first teamers Austin Mitchell, Jacob Bakewell, and Landon White, and District Defensive Player of the Year Christian Bricker.

In order for a team to win this award, they must have a minimum of GPA of 3.50, and rank in the upper 10% of their classification. Our 2016 Wildcat Softball Team compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.64. Fourteen of our twenty varsity players

Congrats to our PHS Wildcat Abigail “Abbie” Burris! Abbie

has been admitted to the prestigious United States Military

Academy at West Point. She is the daughter of Mistie and

Brandon Burris. “I am excited to accept the opportunity to

attend West Point. I look forward to the journey ahead of

me and I could not have accomplished this without my

amazing support system”, said Abbie in a recent interview

for the newsletter. Some of the high admission standards

for USMA are students with excellent grades and leaders

who are physically fit with outstanding character. Out of all

of the applicants per year to West Point, approximately 9%

actually receive admission. Of those that are admitted, only 17% are women. In addition to all of

the strict criteria to be admitted, applicants must also have a congressional nomination. Abbie

received a nomination for admission from Senator James Inhofe. Her report date is July 5th,

2017. We at Piedmont High School are extremely proud of Abbie and can’t wait to see what her

future holds.

Oklahoma State Department of

Education's 2017 Superintendent's

Student Advisory Council.

Piedmont High School students, Zachary Swindell

and Kristen Morgan, were chosen to participate

in the Oklahoma State Department of Education's

2017 Superintendent's Student Advisory Council.

The council is comprised of ninety-seven students

from across the state who were nominated by

the superintendents of their districts. It was

formed by Joy Hofmeister, State Superintendent

of Public Instruction, to provide a forum for stu-

dents to voice their concerns for public education

in Oklahoma. Zach and Kristen will be attending

Student Advisory Council meetings held at the

Oklahoma State Capitol throughout the year.
