Read and understand the owner’s manual and labels affixed to the log splitter. Learn its application and limitations as well as the specific potential hazards.
• Checkyourlogsplitterbeforeuse.Keep theguardsinplaceandinworking order.Checkthatanykeys,toolsoradjustingwrenchesareremovedfrom thetoolareabeforeswitchingon.Replacedamaged,missingorfailedparts immediately.Checkthattheelectriccircuitisadequatelyprotectedandthatit correspondswiththepower,voltageandfrequencyofthemotor.Check thatthereisanearthconnection,andaregulationdifferentialswitch upstream.Neveropenthepushbuttonboxonthemotor–shouldthisbe necessaryconsultaqualifiedelectrician.Makesureyourfingersdonottouch theplug’smetalprongswhenplugginginorunpluggingthelogsplitter.Ifyou needtouseanextensionlead,ensurethatitisnolongerthan10metresand its cross-sectionisnolessthan2.5mm²toallowsufficientcurrentflowtothe motor. Useoflockableandadequatelyinsulatedconnections.Connections mustbemadewithprotectedmaterialsuitableforoutdooruse.
• DoNOToperatethelogsplitterwhilstundertheinfluenceofdrugs,alcohol orany medicationthatcouldaffectyourabilitytousetheapparatuscorrectly.
• Dressappropriately–doNOTwearlooseclothing,ties,jewelleryoranything thatcouldbecaughtinthemovingparts.Protective,electrically non-conductiveglovesandstrongfootweararerecommended.
• Coverortiebacklonghairtopreventitgettingcaughtinthemachinery. ALWAYSwearsafetygogglesandearprotectors.
• Neverstandonthelogsplitter.Keepproperfootingandbalanceatall times. Ensurethatthegroundbeneaththelogsplitterisnotslippery.Donot storeanythingaboveornearthelogsplitterwhichwouldnecessitatestanding onthe machinetoreachit.
• ThelogsplittermustalwaysbeoperatedbyonepersonONLY.Otherpeople shouldkeepasafedistancefromtheworkareawhenthelogsplitterisin operationorswitchedon.Keepchildrenawayfromthelogsplitteratalltimes. Storeinalockedworkshopanddisconnectmasterswitchesafteruse.

USE OF THE LOG SPLITTER
• Putthelogsplitterona60-70cmhigh,stable,flatandlevelworkbench wherethereisplentyofroom.Ifpossibleuseaspeciallogsplitterstand. Boltthelogsplittertotheworksurfaceifittendstowalk,sliporslide.Keep yourworkareacleanandwell-lit.Clutteredareasinviteinjuries.DoNOT usethelogsplitterinwetordampareasorexposeittorain.DoNOTuse inanareawherefumesfrom paint,solventsorinflammableliquidposea potentialhazard.
• Makesuretherearenonailsorforeignobjectsinthelogstobesplit. Theendsofthelogsmustbecutsquare.Branchesmustbecutoffflush withthetrunk.
• Alwayspayfullattention tothemovementofthelogpusher.
• Keepyourhandsawayfromsplitsandcrackswhichopenupinthewood– theymayclosesuddenlyandcauseinjury.DoNOTattempttoremove jammedlogswithyourhands.
• Thelogsplitterwilldoabetterandsaferjobatitsdesignedpressure/rate. Nevertrytosplitlogslargerthanthoseindicatedinthespecificationstable. Thiscouldbedangerousandmaydamagethemachine.Neverleavethelog splitterrunningunattended.
• Alwayspayfullattention tothemovementofthelogpusher.Donot attempttoloadtheloguntilthelogpusherhasstopped.Keepyour handsawayfromallmovingparts.
• Unplugwhennotinuse,beforemakingadjustments,changingparts, cleaningorworkingonthelogsplitter.
• Disposeofusedoilresponsibly.Taketoanauthorisedcollectionpoint– refertoyourlocalcouncilfordetails.DoNOTdischargeintodrains, soilorwater.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS
Thelogsplitterisfordomestic use.Itisdesignedforoperationunderambienttemperaturesbetween+5°Cand40°Candforinstallationataltitudesofnomorethan1000maboveMSL.Thesurroundinghumidityshouldbelessthan50%at40°C.Itcanbestoredortransportedunderambienttemperaturesbetween-25°Cand55°C.

LOG SPLITTER OPERATION
1. Plantheworkareabeforeusingthelogsplitter.Havethelogspositionedwheretheycanbeeasilyreached.
2. Thelogsplitteraccommodateslogsupto52cminlength.Thelogsplitterwillworkmostefficientlyondry,seasonedlogs.
3. Position the logsplittersecurelyon levelgroundoronasecurestand. Ifnecessarystabilise thewheelstopreventthelogsplitterfrommovingduringuse.Ifusinganextensioncable,dosoinasafewaytoavoiddamagingthecableorcreatingahazard.
4. Beforeoperatingthelogsplitter,thebleedscrews(Fig3)shouldbeloosenedby3-4turnstoallowtheairtogoinandoutoftheoiltank.Re-tightenthescrewwhentheworkiscompleteorwhen movingthelogsplittertoavoidoilleaks.
5. Alwaysplacelogsfirmlyonthemainbody,lyingflatagainstthelog guideplates(RefAonFig1).Neverattempttosplitalogatanangle andmakesurethelogswillnottwistorslipwhilstbeingsplit. Ensurethesplittingwedge(RefJonFig1)andthelogpusher (RefBonFig1)willmakecontactwiththelogsquarelyateachend.
6. Forreasonsofsafetythelogsplitterrequiresatwo-handedoperation.Switchontheelectricmotorusing thegreenstartingswitch(RefFonFig1).Usingbothhandspressdownonbothoperatinghandles(RefConFig1).Thelogsplitterwillcompressthelog,pushingagainstthesplittingwedge.Whenthelogissplitreleasebothhandles–thiswillallowthelogpushertoretract.
WARNING – Never force the splitting of a log by sustaining the hydraulic pressure for more than 5 seconds. Try re-positioning the log on the splitter.

TO FREE A JAMMED LOG
Releasebothoperatinghandles so that the logpusher is fully retracted. Insertatriangularwedgeofwoodunderthelogandactivatethelogpusherto push the wedge under the jammed log. Repeat this process usingprogressivelylargerwedgesuntilthejammedlogisfreed.
WARNING – Never hammer a jammed log or place your hands near the log when attempting to free a jammed log.
SHARPENING THE WEDGE AND CLEANING THE GUIDE RAIL
Afterusingthelogsplitterforsometime,sharpenthewedgeusingafinetoothfileandsmoothanyburrsorroughedgesalongthecuttingedge.Cleantheguiderailregularly,especiallywhensplittingwoodthatisrichinresin.

REPLACING HYDRAULIC OIL
Replacethehydraulicoilinthelogsplitterafterevery150hoursofuse.Takethefollowingstepstoreplacetheoil:
1. Make sure all moving parts are stopped and the log splitter isunplugged.
2. Unscrewtheoildrainbolt.
3. Turnthelogsplitterontothesupportlegsideandholdovera3litrecontainertodraintheoilinto.
4. Turn the log splitter vertically to stand on its end with themotorunderneathandtheoperatinghandlesuppermost.
5. Fillwithfreshhydraulicoil.As stated intheSpecificationsTableonpage 5thecorrectoilcapacity is 2.9L.
6. Cleanthesurfaceofthedipstick,whichisattachedtotheoildrainbolt,withacleanlintfreeclothandputbackintothetanktocheckthe newlevel.Makesuretheleveloftherefilledoilisjustbetweenthe twogroovesaroundthedipstick.
7. Clean the oil drain bolt before screwing it back. Make sure it istightenedtoavoidleakagebeforeplacingthelogsplitterhorizontally.
Periodically check the oil level to ensure it is between the two grooves on the dipstick. Refill when the oil reaches the lower level.

TROUBLE SHOOTINGProblemsthatmayarisewhenusingthelogsplitterandsomerecommendedactionsandchecksareshowninthetablebelow:
