There are more than 8 million tourists visiting Sun-Moon Lake in 2012, which leads to traffic congestion and air pollution problems, as well as decreases the travelling quality.

And the result of increase in visitors was reduce the overall quality of tourism services in Sun Moon Lake.These conditions not only impact the tourism services, but also the environmental quality .

Tourism promotion and environment protection always exist the reverse relationship. So we need to take actions and make the balance between such situations.

ICTIoTITSi3 travel 5Taiwan has a solid foundation of information and communication technology and the government has made considerable achievements in the construction of Internet of things and intelligent transportation system technology.Therefore, the concept of i3 travel is proposed to reach the objective of offering intelligent transportation services for quality and low-carbon tourism.

i3 travel 6i3 Travel is the integrated concept of innovative, intelligent and interesting thinking, as well as a total solution for new experience in tourism activities.

Under the concepts of i3 travel, We try to create the Low-carbon green transportation services through incorporating ITS/ICT application in the national scenic area.

For the purpose of reducing the proportion of private vehicles, this project integrated public and private resources for offering real-time and location-based travel information, seamless and quality public transportation and EV-sharing service with advanced navigation system. The tourists will come to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Taiwan and have a travel experience of intelligent and green transportation.

9Next,The multi-modal green transport system surrounding the Lake area is established, inclusive of E-boat, E-bus, Gondola system, biking system and EV-sharing with advanced navigation system.

And for the purpose of seamless integration in the green transport system, the cloud-computing and Internet of Things technology are incorporated to add value in the aspects of ICTE which abbreviated by Information, Communication, Transaction and Entertainment. POLICY- Advanced Navi Services, ANS13Using electric vehicles not only save more energy while experiencing the Sun Moon Lake, but also help people save driving costs at the same time. Because each electric vehicle is equipped with Advanced Navigation Services (ANS). ANS provides intelligent transportation services to ensure that the condition of electric vehicle could be fully controlled.

132013/4-2014/6 more than 23,000 passengers (90% are private vehicle users) and more than 300,000 km distance (equal to reducing 57 tons of CO2 emission)

POLICY- Carbon Reduction14On April 2013, we officially provided EV-Sharing services.During the 3 moths(from April to July), EV-Sharing service has enhanced the experience of more than 6,200 passengers and 46,000 km distance (equal to reducing 10 tons of CO2 emission). The survey also shows that more than 90% of tourists who use EV-Sharing services instead of their private cars to travel. 15And we concerned, the electric vehicles and buses should not always be the competitive transportation mode. Furthermore, we schedule in November 2014 to provide low-carbon tourism package services, includes electric vehicles, boats, buses, bicycles and gondola services.16

17Sun Moon LakeInternational Fireworks Music Festival About the policy to traffic managementWe integrate several government departments to manage Sun Moon Lake area to assist the traffic control and evacuation operations in large-scale events.Especially we propose a interceptor ring concept to reduce private cars coming to lake area.17

Based on the traffic control platform, different road-hierarchy managing authorities can make a on-line center-to-center control negotiation with the real-time traffic information. 18Traffic Management Traffic Control Platform

And such coordinated mechanism really produce significant performance in traffic flow control. Simultaneously, efficiency improvements also reduce the carbon emission in the scenic area.

In 2012, the Sun Moon Lake International Fireworks and Music Festival traffic control, the evacuation operation finished ahead of 1.5 hours. Energy saving and emission reduction are the goals that countries around the world are trying to achieve.In summary, we hope the visitors to Sun Moon Lake can park their cars and travel by electric vehicles, electric boats, electric buses and bicycles to experience the low-carbon and intelligent transportation services. We have confidence that everyone can make a contribution to environmental protection for Sun Moon Lake.

The i3 travel project offers different travel experience, allowing visitors to feel the innovative, interesting and intelligent feeling, that people can experience.And the project execution and results can provide references for other National Scenic AreaLet people appreciate and understand the ITS technology combing intelligent tourism is the final destination which we want to get23

Everyone can make a contribution to environmental protection for Sun Moon Lake.We will continuously adopt innovative services and applications to strengthen low carbon intelligent transport systems that are friendly for tourists, local SMEs and the environment.Conclusion (2/2)By means of LBS (Location-Based Service) transportation and travel information as well as seamless multi-modal transportation system, the objective of promoting low carbon tourism and intelligent travel services can be reached.In conclusion, I would like to say that Taiwan has formally entered a new era of Low Carbon Smart Transport development with the contribution in carbon reduction and energy conservation. In the future, we will continue to adopt innovative concepts to develop low carbon intelligent transport systems that are both user friendly and environmentally friendly.Finally, I wish success for this forum, and good health and happiness to all of you.
