There will be no November meeting, as one stepped up to host it.

We are looking for volunteers to host upcoming meetings. Beginning with January, all months are open. As a reminder, if you host a meeting, PTC will offer $25.00 to help defray the cost of refreshments.

Another reminder: PTC still needs a secretary.

The Christmas party will be hosted by Judy and Kevin Jewell on December 13, 2008. It will be a potluck. See details in this issue. Note: Please bring a donation of non perishable foods that will be donated to a local food bank.

SUNI 2009 is coming. For information contact Max Pahmeirer. 360-668-1303 or [email protected]

See you at the Christmas party.

NUPTUALS

Two Tiger owners, Ron Simcox and Deb Steinbeck were married last Friday evening, in Vancouver Washington.. Fellow Sunbeamers, Fred and Gayle Ghering "Tiger owner"of Oregon City, Or. along with Chuck and Jane Nicodemus "Alpine owner" of Clackamas, Or. attended. What a wedding it was!

A rare and beautiful program held in the old school made to a church that Ron attended school and even went to the church. After the wedding the reception was held in their new church adjacent to the old one. Ron and Deb all dressed out in their finery were "BEAMING" as they went up the isle.

Ron's, Tiger is the original he has had since he was in the Air Force so many years ago. It has been in several countries and all but 2 states here in the USA.Debs, Tiger is the famous Maroon Beauty and automatic with hand controls, that she handles very nicely I might add. She met Ron several years ago and after she made the decision to get the Tiger, Ron helped arrange the controls for her to drive it.

Jane and I have been on many trips with this great couple, up to Canada for those famous Rootes Rendezvous' and as well as Washington and Oregon..

We wish them the very Happiest of all in their future.

Chuck Nicodemus

Sunbeam Stocking StuffersThe last of the trick-or-treaters had barely left the door when the first deluge of Christmas advertising hit the airwaves, followed by stuffed mailboxes. So who are we to fight the wave that started with the mailing of the first Sears catalog over a century ago? For the Sunbeam enthusiast in your household, the pickings are pretty good this year.

Get Smart – the complete TV series. No TV show or movie showcased the Sunbeam Tiger and Alpine better than this classic TV comedy, starring Don Adams and Barbara Feldon. $179.95 at Buy.com (see link below), but late word is that Costco may also soon have it - for only $129. http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=209204500&adid=17654&dcaid=17654

2009 Rootes Group CalendarAussie Sunbeamer Vic Hughes has been putting out quality Rootes calendars for several years. This year’s might be the best yet. It features a wide variety of Rootes cars with interesting backdrops. Order now to receive yours by Christmas from Australia, U.S. and

A sample from the calendar:

North by Northwest Get ready for SUNI V next summer in Rapid City, South Dakota with this classic Alfred Hitchcock adventure, starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint. The ending atop Mt. Rushmore (or a suitable Hollywood stand-in) rivals any of today’s CGI-generated action flicks. Now finally available on DVD.

The Works Tigers – 1964 to 1966You’d like to buy your favorite Sunbeamer a copy of the now-rare Book of Norman, but the $800+ price tag on the typical eBay offering makes your pocketbook shudder? Get the next best thing! Graham Rood’s new book delivers a

complete history and rare, rare photos of the factory race Tigers. A must for any Tiger or Sunbeam racing enthusiast. Some outlets price it as high as $149, but the best recent advertised prices are local, at one of the best outlet anywhere for automotive books and manuals: Books 4 Cars, located in Seattle’s Columbia City. http://books4cars.com/

Get Smart – the Movie. Steve Carell takes over Don Adam’s role in this 2008 update of the classic ’60’s TV comedy. Our favorite bright red Sunbeam returns and gets a full hour, would you believe it, a full hour of screen time. Well… would you believe 30 minutes? Would you believe 25 seconds??? Look at it this way: the late Marlon Brando got millions for about the same screen time in Superman II. The classic movie-critic line applies here: “I laughed until I stopped.” Still, a good popcorn flick for a rainy afternoon, available everywhere.

Weekends of Glory. In his eagerly-awaited follow-up book to Long Straights and Hairpin Turns, Martin Rudow chronicles sports car racing in the Pacific Northwest, this time from 1962-1970. Contains rare photos of long-defunct race tracks around the NW, plus racing photos of several Sunbeam Alpines, courtesy of PTC’s Jim Leach and the estate of the late Tacoma Alpine racer Jann Helzer. Again, try Books 4 Cars for best prices and availability.

OBITUARY

Eugene R. Cederstrand, 1935-2008, passed away early November 1 after courageous battle with CHF resulting from a heart attack last December. He passed away peacefully with family at his side. He is preceded in death by his wife Diane, and his beloved baby son, Keith.

Born in Anacortes, Washington to Olaf and Mabel Cederstrand, (Nokleby), he attended Anacortes HS, graduating 1955, and served in the US Air Force 1955-59. Gene worked as a mechanist in the Aerospace Program at Boeing from 61’-71’. He was proud of his contribution in the development of the Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicles for NASA. Gene started acquiring apartments with his brother, Ken and left Boeing to start Cederstrand Rentals. Together, they concentrated on buying and renovating buildings in the Rainier Valley to the Central area. Later, after his son Eric became involved, they completed several historic renovations in Tacoma s well as projects in Lacey and Idaho.

Gene was an honest and generous man with a big heart. He was not a man of many words, until given the changes to tell a story about a great car, a special antique, an exotic foreign country, helping someone in need, or teaching a beautiful lady to dance! Then his quick wit, charm and confidence would emerge, and an audience born. For 35 years he was an avid ballroom danced several nights a week. He was an active

member of the Rainier Valley Chamber of Commerce, Ballard and Burien Elks Lodge, Pacific Tiger Automobile Club, and the Pace Setters Dance Club.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Tacoma General Hospital’s, Dr. Retailliau, the Cardiac Study Center Dr. Pugeda, Dr. Lee, and Dr. Vora, and the amazing staff of the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic. We also want to Thank Tiffany Yancey, Joe McIntyre and the other caregivers for their help and assistance over many months.

He leaves behind his devoted son, Eric Cederstrand (Tenley), grandchildren Avery and Annika, step-children Randall Standish, Allena Standish, her children Kelsey, Shayna and Quinlyn, brother Ken Cederstrand (David Watts), niece Florette, and brother Nils Cederstrand (Ronni) and children, first wife Paulette Quirie (Good) who’s tireless assistance was so appreciated, and his special friend, Marlene Gaw, whose visits were the highlight if his week. We’d also like to thank the countless friends in the Seattle area. Gene was loved and respected by his family, community, employees and his friends. He will be missed by all of us. We love you Dad! Now Dance!
