THE “!” MOMENT

Page 3: Pace On Earth 2

PROBLEM: Life moves at a very quick pace in cities, going very fast with all the unprecedented advances in technology. From the minute we wake up, to the moment our heads hit the pillow, we are plugged in.

GOAL: I want to create a designated area for heavy tech-users that provides an isolated, restful zone. With the help of natural elements such as grass, sunlight, water and slow moving (living!) creatures, the user will engage in a relaxing, immersive experience.

This non-stressful environment allows the human body to slow down and move at earth’s natural pace- even if it’s just temporarily.

The mirrors outside are a hyper exaggeration of our lives and how it is so focused on ourselves. we are wrapped up in our work, our worries, and ultimately our stress.

But when we are actually in this, our head physically dissapears, symbolizing how our cluttered thoughts are gone.

GRASS

a fairly basic earth element that is common; however, our physcial interaction with it is limited. its everywhere in NY but in the winter how often do you get to lay down in a patch of grass and relax?

With this bed of grass, the user is able to connect to earth in the most physical way possible.

serpae tetra (best to put in a school and with another large fish)

cardinal tetra (best to be put in schools, neon color, does not GITD )

black tetra (super resilient, great in a community)

FISHIES!

GLOFISH (zebra zanois) They're genetically modified with a certain jellyfish chromosome that develops the florescence. Not injected with anything...illegal in California..

DEMOGRAPHICMeant to provide a critical social commentary and also an outlet for stress. Could be placed in a small office environment (design studio, film editing company) so that there is a cohesive group effort put into maintaining the plant and fish. Take care of it and have it take care of you.

USER PROFILEJames is a senior art director at one of London’s top advertising agencies. His life is very hectic as he is constantly brainstorming, emailing, copywriting, and is usually in front of the computer. From the minute he wakes up, he is on his phone or iPad, answering emails or going over what his schedule looks like for the day. He enters the office at 9 am and usually leaves later on in the evening, around 8 pm. He handles different clients at any given moment and is constantly multi-tasking.

During his lunch hour, he finishes his meal and goes over to the company’s Pace On Earth dome to meditate. He sets the timer on for 10 minutes and enters the hub. There, he lies down in the patch of grass and enjoys his rest of “nothingness” as he looks up to the slow moving jellyfish that glide around above. James also enjoys hearing the soothing sounds as well. As his 10 minutes is up, the sun lamp gradually turns on to full brightness, releasing vitamin D and some natural light, awakening him. He pulls himself out of the black curtain and is awaken, energized, and refreshed from his quick break. He then waters the grass and feeds the jellyfish.
